It looks very cozy and welcoming inside. Together with a friend, we thoroughly enjoyed a high tea. The staff is very friendly. There is a lot of variety in the food, and it tasted good.

We ate here on August 23rd, a 4-course menu via Social Deal; it was a very positive experience, generous portions and great taste. Relaxing music in the background, service very attentive. We were pleasantly surprised.

First time here. The location is nicely decorated and it was pleasantly quiet. (Compared to Zwolle) We had two carpaccio starters. This was excellent and nothing wrong with it. For the main course, I ordered the truffle burger. This was a huge disappointment. For €22, I expected a really big burger. A Big Mac is even bigger and has better toppings. My wife had the spare ribs and they were good. Dessert was also good and served quickly. Too bad about the burger; I had expected more from that.

A cozy atmosphere, good food, and good service

The staff doesn't seem to know how their specials work. They are chatting ridiculously much while we are clearly looking for someone who can help us. We were immediately served the dinner menu, without the possibility to see what we could drink; that was only “allowed” 15 minutes later. (?) Fries were not served with the burger we had ordered. It also seemed very cozy in the kitchen, but once we had finished chatting, the wait staff finally turned out to have some time for us. We were then finally allowed some fries sauce with our side dishes. We had a nice meal, but it feels like a ridiculous struggle to order your food. Later we wanted to order some drinks, but all we were told was: “I’m not working anymore”… and then enjoyed his drink at the bar. Not: “I’m off duty, but I’ll just get someone for you.” No “sorry, but I can’t help you.” That warm feeling of coziness and atmosphere. 👌 But “credit where credit is due”. The food was tasty! And that is an important point, but not the only one. Tip: make sure the wait staff doesn't wear strong perfume or aftershave that is so overpowering that the food takes away from your taste.

We are moored in Meppel with the boat and went to your place with friends on Friday evening for dinner. We really enjoyed this; nice, efficient service and good food. We chose the 3-course menu, price-wise the best choice for the starter, main course, and a substantial dessert – more than enough for a hearty eater. We heard from a neighbor that it had been closed for a while and that it didn't have a good reputation. With emphasis on 'had', because. Since we are going boating on Sunday, we also went on Saturday evening, again for the 3-course menu, but this time choosing different dishes. Once again, the food was perfect, and the service was efficient and the girls were nice. Thank you so much for the wonderful evening. P.S. I get the impression that some people post bad reviews on purpose to profit from it; very unfortunate.

My experience was very negative. The owners are very disrespectful; they do not listen at all and treat you in a very strange way. The owners also make nasty remarks about the staff behind the bar. I strongly advise against this place!

There was quite a long time between the first, second, and third courses, but that was probably because there was a shortage of staff. We are not from the area, but otherwise, we would certainly have come back to eat again. We were very satisfied.

Had a lovely meal on the terrace. A fine 2-course menu for €20... limited choice, but okay options. Friendly and attentive service. We had indicated when making the reservation that we were going to the 7:30 PM movie (we arrived at 5:45 PM), so we had to hurry a bit when dessert arrived at 7:20 PM, otherwise we would have liked coffee afterwards. But all in all, we definitely enjoyed it!

We were there on a Monday evening. The spare ribs and fries were lukewarm. And the taste of the meat was bland. It was quiet, and that often says it all. This was our first and immediately our last encounter with De Beren.

We had a delicious meal and the quality of the food was excellent. The staff was also friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, we did get the feeling that the waitstaff were mainly occupied with each other. Upon arrival, we were asked if we wanted something to drink, but after that, during our 3-course menu, we were not asked again if we wanted to order anything else. Additionally, we found it a pity that it was not mentioned that an extra surcharge applied to the fries we chose. It would have been nice if this had been clearly indicated beforehand. All in all, we enjoyed our meal, but there are still some areas for improvement regarding service and communication.

Slow service; had to wait a good 45 minutes for a starter. Even though it wasn't busy at all. The staff pays more attention to each other than to the customer. Very pleasant standing behind the bar with the four of them. The time between courses felt very long. The Berenburger actually tasted pretty good. The satay was a whole lot worse. The chicken was tough and I think the satay had been simmering all day or was microwaved. The taste was downright bad. Burnt, old, musty taste. All in all, we sat for well over 2 hours for a starter, main course, and a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here.

Came here a while back for dinner on a reservation and found our experience quite average. We ordered the following: Tournedos, medium rare, Biefstuk puntjes and a Snitsel. For drinks we ordered a beer, orange juice an water. It took service about 20min after being seated to take our order and the food took 45/50min after that to arrive. They said that this is "normal waiting time if you order a tournedos", but i am honestly questioning that. I ordered the tournedos medium-rare, but gave them a note that if they found that a bit too difficult to keep it on the rare side. I eventually got a fully medium cooked steak. I saw it coming- pre told them to keep it raw instead of medium, and I received a full medium steak.. The snitsel was or normal quality and a little on the dry side. Lastly, the biefstuk puntjes were smothered in sauce instead of having a balanced dish. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived, but service was still quite lacking. Honestly, our experience was quite saddening at De Beren. However, the place itself looks quite nice, the restaurant has the layout figured out. I personally would not go back.

Man, oh man, that was bad again. Dry spareribs, dry chicken satay, pork belly where you can only taste the five spices even though it’s not on the menu. Dramatically bad. We had hoped the reopening would do better, but alas. For us, this is definitely the last time. What a shame!

We arrived a little early, but we were served politely. It was a bit busy, but we were allowed to wait for a moment. The food was good. The gentleman who brought our food was very quick with everything. The others could learn a thing or two from him. Otherwise, it was mainly young people.

First we waited 30 minutes before we got a menu, then another 30 minutes when we finally had it, and the food was inedible and expensive too.

We had a particularly delicious meal. Prepared with care. Good flavor. Reasonable price. We had opted for the movie and dinner package. That makes it even more attractive. So movie tickets were included.

We had booked high tea fifteen minutes in advance. It turned out this wasn't actually possible, but they had everything ready anyway. The man behind the counter that morning was super hospitable and cheerful! The food was great!

Very disappointing. The drinks took a long time and the table was not cleared. Our main course also took a long time and had too much sesame seed. Side dishes were only brought after we asked for them. The ‘boss’ eventually brought them, but didn't seem very cheerful. For dessert, we had specifically asked for different ice cream, but this was not delivered. A shame. We didn't feel entirely welcome here.

April 24, 2026. Had a delicious meal tonight at De Beren in Meppel. What a breath of fresh air compared to a few years ago. Friendly ladies and gentlemen serving us. As mentioned, the food was delicious and more than enough. I hope the current, new owners quickly find their place within the Meppel hospitality scene!! They deserve it! We will definitely be back again (or more often).

This branch was recently reopened by new owners. We had less than positive experiences with the previous one, so we used a Social Deal to ‘test’ whether the quality and atmosphere had improved. And yes, certainly! What a change. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly young lady, waitress Lieke, who served every drink and dish with a big smile and great hospitality. The four-course dinner was amazing: beautifully presented and very tasty. This ‘De Beren’ branch is a great asset to Meppel.

Nice atmosphere and good food. We also ate here in 2023, but it was so abnormally bad back then! This was a 100% better experience.

I went for dinner here last week with my wife. We went for the dare to share menu. To be honest, there wasn't that much daring for us. But for those 4 courses, we got more than we could handle… Was that the dare, then? We enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal; the waitress kept continuously providing us with new drinks and kept letting us know how long (read: short) it would be before our next course arrived. We had a fantastic evening! We will definitely be back!

Last Thursday, I had coffee and lunch at De Beren Meppel. What a nice atmosphere and friendly service! The lunch and coffee were delicious. Highly recommended!!!!

Still wanted to give the new owner a chance, but unfortunately, it is still nothing to write home about. The starter was fine, but the main course left much to be desired. The sauce is more like soup, it is so thin, and you get a measly little bowl. The salad looked like vegetable scraps. The burger was not properly hot. Dishes all arrived very quickly one after another, meaning there was no question of a quiet dinner. The staff undoubtedly means well, but it just wasn't quite there. No inquiry about the taste, or if everything was to our liking.

We were here 2 weeks ago and I have to say the welcome was friendly and the service was excellent with everything. The food was just good, not amazing but good. I had some special croquettes as a starter and a burger for the main course, and that was cooked well and the taste was good, and everything else like the fries and vegetables was fine. Poor service. Unqualified staff. Price-quality ratio was out of proportion. Ordered a hamburger, pastry, and two coffees. After 15 minutes, the hamburger arrived first. Then we had to ask where the pastry was, and then ask again if we could get our coffee as well. It was a one-time visit, but never again in De Beren Meppel.

In bijna 4 uur tijd , twee keer drinken aangeboden gekregen. Toen we aangaven dat de service slecht was en dat we verkeerd geïnformeerd waren over het menu, werd er brutaal gezegd dat dit in principe ons probleem was en dat dit nou eenmaal de werkwijze van de beren is. Dat betekent dus dat ze hierin niks voor ons konden betekenen. Toen we aangaven hier niet weer terug te willen komen vonden ze dit dan ook geen probleem. Arrogant personeel wat niet open staat voor oplossingen. Voelde me hier dan ook totaal niet de gast en op mijn gemak. Altijd fan geweest van de beren maar na deze ervaring in Meppel, zie je mij hier nooit meer terug.

The service did its best. It took a long time before they came to take the coffee order. We wanted to have lunch but didn't. People around us were waiting for a very long time. Lunches were served at 2 tables in 45 minutes. We heard a new chef. The service had to reassure everyone. Management takes responsibility and does not let the service have to take the fall.

We dined with two people on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't very busy (three or four other tables were occupied), and we took advantage of the all-you-can-eat spareribs offer for €19.84, which commemorates the year De Beren was founded. The concept was quite simple: you have two hours to eat. The first round includes two half racks of spareribs in one flavor. Afterward, you can order a new round after finishing the previous one. There are six flavors (neutral, BBQ, spicy, honey, herb butter, and ketjap). I've had many spareribs at various restaurants, and I must say they are very tender and flavorful. The service was excellent; even though it wasn't busy, it took a long time to get our food between rounds. We had been sitting for over two hours, but thankfully we were allowed to continue eating because the service was slow. Dessert was ordered, but after 20 minutes we were told the chef wasn't there, meaning the dessert couldn't be made. We then ordered something else, and even then, we had to wait over 20 minutes for dessert. This restaurant is highly recommended for the food. I wouldn't write home about the speed, even though it wasn't busy. 😅 The restaurant looks beautiful, has a nice atmosphere, and there are nice places to sit.

Well received, we arrived earlier than planned. Unfortunately, the chicken satay was not in stock, and that at 5 p.m.... I thought the carpatio smelled a bit strange, like rotten meat. The taste was fine. Very tasty that it had bacon on it. We then had to wait quite a long time for our main course, spa ribs and spicy crispy chicken. Spairribs are poor in taste and are definitely not on offer! The spicy chicken was okay, more vegetables than chicken unfortunately. Unfortunately, both dishes were not really hot. I think the downside of this restaurant is that you have to pay for extras. For example for sweet potato fries and truffle mayo. You also have to pay for other sauces, but we did not use them.

Unfortunately, I still feel like I'm a bit sad. Food and drink are fine and yes, it is becoming expensive everywhere these days. A simple lunch can last 2 days at home. .No, the food is fine, but not inviting for me, especially when the weather is dreary.

If you have 1.5 hours for a cup of coffee and a weak, half-lukewarm fries without salt and not with all the ingredients listed on the menu, on a terrace without ashtrays on the table but with the world of butts on the floor. + if you are willing to pay quite a lot for this, you can give it a try. And oh yes, we are now sitting on the couch with a stomach ache!!

We had to wait almost 1.5 hours for our food in an almost empty restaurant, after which it arrived at the table dry and incomplete. I have no idea what's going on in that kitchen, but there's no hard work going on.

It took a very long time for food to arrive, said several times that it was arriving and not properly cooked sweet potato fries arrived which were very soft. Even after waiting a long time after being told it was in the fryer. Atmosphere was good but I wouldn't go here again. It also took quite a while for a cup of coffee to arrive. The 3 course menu will not really leave you full. Hamburger was very tasty.

Nice place to sit, but poor service. Tables were not cleared quickly. After 45 minutes our order was delivered, after first asking again where it was. I think the tomato soup came from a can and had little flavor. The lady who served also had little energy and no feeling for the profession. All in all not recommended.
