Poor service. Unqualified staff. Price-quality ratio was out of proportion. Ordered a hamburger, pastry, and two coffees. After 15 minutes, the hamburger arrived first. Then we had to ask where the pastry was, and then ask again if we could get our coffee as well. It was a one-time visit, but never again in De Beren Meppel.

Toen we aangaven dat de service slecht was en dat we verkeerd geïnformeerd waren over het menu, werd er brutaal gezegd dat dit in principe ons probleem was en dat dit nou eenmaal de werkwijze van de beren is. Dat betekent dus dat ze hierin niks voor ons konden betekenen. Toen we aangaven hier niet weer terug te willen komen vonden ze dit dan ook geen probleem. Arrogant personeel wat niet open staat voor oplossingen. Voelde me hier dan ook totaal niet de gast en op mijn gemak. Altijd fan geweest van de beren maar na deze ervaring in Meppel, zie je mij hier nooit meer terug.

We dined with two people on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't very busy (three or four other tables were occupied), and we took advantage of the all-you-can-eat spareribs offer for €19.84, which commemorates the year De Beren was founded. The concept was quite simple: you have two hours to eat. The first round includes two half racks of spareribs in one flavor. Afterward, you can order a new round after finishing the previous one. There are six flavors (neutral, BBQ, spicy, honey, herb butter, and ketjap). I've had many spareribs at various restaurants, and I must say they are very tender and flavorful. The service was excellent; even though it wasn't busy, it took a long time to get our food between rounds. We had been sitting for over two hours, but thankfully we were allowed to continue eating because the service was slow. Dessert was ordered, but after 20 minutes we were told the chef wasn't there, meaning the dessert couldn't be made. We then ordered something else, and even then, we had to wait over 20 minutes for dessert. This restaurant is highly recommended for the food. I wouldn't write home about the speed, even though it wasn't busy. 😅 The restaurant looks beautiful, has a nice atmosphere, and there are nice places to sit.

The service did its best. It took a long time before they came to take the coffee order. We wanted to have lunch but didn't. People around us were waiting for a very long time. Lunches were served at 2 tables in 45 minutes. We heard a new chef. The service had to reassure everyone. Management takes responsibility and does not let the service have to take the fall.

Well received, we arrived earlier than planned. Unfortunately, the chicken satay was not in stock, and that at 5 p.m.... I thought the carpatio smelled a bit strange, like rotten meat. The taste was fine. Very tasty that it had bacon on it. We then had to wait quite a long time for our main course, spa ribs and spicy crispy chicken. Spairribs are poor in taste and are definitely not on offer! The spicy chicken was okay, more vegetables than chicken unfortunately. Unfortunately, both dishes were not really hot. I think the downside of this restaurant is that you have to pay for extras. For example for sweet potato fries and truffle mayo. You also have to pay for other sauces, but we did not use them.

Unfortunately, I still feel like I'm a bit sad. Food and drink are fine and yes, it is becoming expensive everywhere these days. A simple lunch can last 2 days at home. .No, the food is fine, but not inviting for me, especially when the weather is dreary.

We had to wait almost 1.5 hours for our food in an almost empty restaurant, after which it arrived at the table dry and incomplete. I have no idea what's going on in that kitchen, but there's no hard work going on.

If you have 1.5 hours for a cup of coffee and a weak, half-lukewarm fries without salt and not with all the ingredients listed on the menu, on a terrace without ashtrays on the table but with the world of butts on the floor. + if you are willing to pay quite a lot for this, you can give it a try. And oh yes, we are now sitting on the couch with a stomach ache!!

It took a very long time for food to arrive, said several times that it was arriving and not properly cooked sweet potato fries arrived which were very soft. Even after waiting a long time after being told it was in the fryer. Atmosphere was good but I wouldn't go here again. It also took quite a while for a cup of coffee to arrive. The 3 course menu will not really leave you full. Hamburger was very tasty.

Nice place to sit, but poor service. Tables were not cleared quickly. After 45 minutes our order was delivered, after first asking again where it was. I think the tomato soup came from a can and had little flavor. The lady who served also had little energy and no feeling for the profession. All in all not recommended.

Service very friendly and really do their best, hence the 2 stars. The food, on the other hand, was terrible. My partner had a lunch platter and I had the trio of sandwiches (with spicy chicken, pork belly and mini hamburger). To make it seem like a lot, a large lettuce leaf is placed between everything and covered with lots of sauce. Chicken was 2 small pieces, hamburger was burnt, pork belly had a strange taste/smell. Lunch platter ditto, also filled with lettuce but little carpaccio or salmon. I ordered something else, the goat cheese sandwich with Parma ham in the hope that it would straighten out a bit! Unfortunately, this didn't do much good either! Sandwich was topped with goat cheese, no arugula to be found and the ham had probably flown off the plate from the kitchen to the table! We had received lunch as a gift. It's a shame to look back on it with such a negative view!

When we entered there were few guests, the atmosphere looked good. We ordered chicken and pork tenderloin. The chicken was raw and the pork tenderloin was not really tender. The service was friendly. It is a nice place but they just lack a good chef.

Ate here last night... Messy evening and several guests had complaints The ladies in the service were friendly, but the food was really not good Ordered 2x chateaubriand (60 euros each! And an additional 8 euros per person for the onions, sauce and mushrooms). It was advertised as "very tender" and would be served flambéed at the table. The latter did not happen and the meat was super tough. The mushrooms were also raw (forgot to put them in the pan?😂) and the sweet potato fries were burnt. Tenderloin tips tasted good. We ate everything (except the raw mushrooms and black fries) because we were hungry after a long day and had children with us. In retrospect, we should not have done that because it was absolutely not worth the bill of almost 200 euros

Today we went for the first time. The food was very bad. We all left the food. My son had a children's menu steak which was very tough. My husband had rib eye which was tough. I had pork tenderloin which was raw. We walked out the door. Never again for us with you. They all went home with an empty stomach. The rest of the case was nice

I once ordered the "winter stew" here during corona time, which is pictured below. I don't think I need to waste any further words on that. recently gave the restaurant another chance, when we had dinner here with a group. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the (OPEN) kitchen was not very pleasant. The chef shamelessly shouted at his staff. The food was then delivered cold. Top girls in the service, but you don't have to do it for the food.

Nice lunch, delicious chicken sandwich and for me a dish that is actually a starter. Pork belly with steamed bun. It took a while to get there but it was worth the wait.

Mooie zaak, maar eten is magertjes. Het driegangendiner ad € 32,50 kost uiteindelijk meer dan € 40,00. Voor de gebakken champignons en uitjes, gebakken ei bij saté en saus moet worden bijbetaald. Erg armoedig en slecht gastheerschap. Erg opdringerig met drankjes.

Beautiful design inside! But too many hot peppers on the food, no shrimp to taste in the shrimp croquette and forgetting to keep the salad gluten-free. No apology or friendly gesture for all this. And a hefty bill into the bargain, which I was a bit bewildered but simply paid.

Had too high expectations. Food returned the first time, undercooked. Heating defective. (can happen) electric heaters as an alternative ok. It does bring the atmosphere down. Certainly does not achieve the price-quality ratio it claims.

Our sweet potato fries were badly burnt, then we asked an employee if we could get a new bowl of fries and even she agreed that they were really very burnt. We soon got our new, not burnt, fries and they were definitely better. The food was okay and the service was fast and good. This was the second time I had eaten at the Beren and probably the last.

Cozy, beautiful place with pleasant and cooperative staff, especially the boys from the bar, that's for sure! 👍 However, as far as the service is concerned, 1 star less, a total of 4, as the 3-course menu was served within an hour. More time between courses will certainly be appreciated. But next time we will definitely come back from Delft when we are in Meppel. 😉👍

It was very cold in the restaurant, there were three electric heaters to warm it up. When we indicated that we were cold, we were told that the cold came from above and it was cold outside so there was not much they could do about it. We ordered nachos in advance, which were fine. Then came the main course, several little things. Everything was stated to be cold, and what do you get as an answer: yes, maybe we should warm up the plates in advance. Our son had steak as a children's menu, which was cold and still very red. Very special for a children's menu. Once again, when paying, indicate that the food was cold, but nothing was done about it. For us this was the first and last time we have been here and we will not recommend it to anyone else.

After an hour of waiting she came to tell me that they didn't have my starter, then after half an hour of waiting our pulled pork arrived, which was so tough and dried out that you had to chew on it for a very long time. After waiting another half hour or 45 minutes, the main course arrived, a dried out hamburger bun, the meat of which had been cooked too long and had little taste, the cheese was dry and not melted. The salmon was edible, but not very special, especially for that price, after paying 25 percent discount on the hamburger. (4euro) We had to pay an amount of 79 euros, which she said was a strange amount, as if she was after a euro tip. Found out at home that we never had dessert, which we did pay for. (3 course menu) Furthermore, the staff was hasty, when they ask if you like it, they are already 2 tables away before you can even respond or empty your mouth. We won't be coming back here again.

It's a shame that they brought cold fries, a dirty glass of wine up to three times and several tables that were completely full of dirty crockery, empty glasses and bottles. Employees who walked past and didn't even take a glass with them. They tried to make up for it with a free drink and said that they had to serve 100 guests with 3 people. Removing tables would have been the only sensible remedy, because there were a lot of complainers and a lot of food went back to the kitchen and......they won't be coming again anytime soon. Too bad for such a beautiful place.

Dissapointing. Too expensive for what you get. You have to pay if you want vegetables, a few pieces on a plate is not what you expect. Were the pancakes on the children's menu gone? Ready-made I think? Nice place to sit but wouldn't go there again.

We had dinner with 6 people on Boxing Day The soup was cold, sent back. When we returned, the soup turned out to be cold again. Cold again for the third time. Then 1 person canceled his entire order and therefore didn't eat anything. The other meals were mediocre and few. The kids ordered spare ribs without marinade, but received marinated ones, which they did not like, it took a very long time before the right one was reserved And to make matters worse, Dameblance without whipped cream, 2 mini scoops of ice cream for 12.50??? Very bad, all in all and certainly not worth repeating. Not recommended!!!!!!

Eating out on Boxing Day at De Beren. Unfortunately one big disappointment. We had mentioned when making the reservation that we would like to sit in a "booth" but we were led to another table. When we pointed this out, she said laconically as she walked away: "Just sit there"... Starter was fine, main course was very disappointing. When ordering the burger, I was explicitly asked what I wanted and what I didn't want on it...but when it was served, it had everything on it that I didn't want?! We were also not served fries...we had to ask for them. Well, fries...a small bowl of crumbs. After dinner, the children were only asked if they wanted dessert...The desserts were really bad.... My son got his cup of ice cream first and we got our order 20 minutes later. Cheesecake, vanilla ice cream with churros... Mine was missing the ice cream and the churros were rock hard and ice cold and my daughter's was missing the whipped cream and the churros were also hard and ice cold. When we wanted to pay and were asked if everything was to our liking, we honestly stated that the desserts really left a lot to be desired... but there was hardly any response to that.... Once for us but never again!!

Christmas Eve 2023 to the Beren in Meppel. We went for the Christmas menu €42.50 p.p. The carpaccio starter was excellent. After that the long wait started. We had to wait an hour and a half for the main course after we had asked where it was, there were at most 30 guests in the restaurant. Finally it came, but then came the disappointment. My wife had tournedos, only 1 piece was cold and it looked... whether it had been under the lamp for an hour. And paid an extra 5 euros there. And my salmon steak could fit in my hollow molar and we couldn't get out what was there, it turned out to be risotto, it looked like it came from the trash bin, inedible and cold. We also got fries with it, well, fries crumbs and we could grease the car with it. The service was pushy if you wanted a drink. And after the dish you also had to pay extra for the cheese board. And then when you pay, they keep an eye on you when you use your debit card, nothing is shielded. Not good, we were deeply disappointed.

De Beren Meppel... Where a cappuccino is a latte, where a latte macchiato is a marshmallow coffee, but where a Texels Skiller Wit suddenly turns out to be a Texels Tuunwal Tripel. Staff are running around like headless chickens and all sorts of things are going wrong with the food at the tables around us. A year ago it was still great, but a lot has changed in just a year. Step it up guys! Otherwise you will lose a customer.

Just good, but no more than that. We ate some small dishes before the film started and it was nice that we could combine them that way. There were no balls in my tomato soup as stated on the menu, I passed it on to the waiter, they probably accidentally told me it had to be vegetarian, no problem. The shrimp croquettes were also tasty. My friend had the Spicy crispy chicken and it was good but lacked some decoration or something. Traditional fries with truffle mayo and parmesan were tasty.

It was a special evening - food took way too long - wrong main course - wrong salad - cold environment, during the meal we closed the main entrance door about 15 times - wrong receipt The food we finally got was good. Spoke to the manager about this. We did get a discount, but the experience of a nice evening out for dinner was not there. Didn't take any desert. We also come to Hoogeveen at the Beren, where it is good. No longer in Meppel for the time being.

Went for dinner with the family. The last dish was served too late and turned out not to be cooked medium. Back into the kitchen where it was fried too quickly, resulting in burning. This piece of meat costs €35. Also, 2 containers of fries were just cold. This one is back too. If you ask for curry, you get BBQ sauce. Discussed several times with a waitress. Service remained super friendly, but the kitchen seems like chaos to me. Ultimately received 4 free drinks and a €5 discount on the burnt meat, which in my opinion was still far too expensive. The free drinks were offered, I had to ask for the discount on the meat. The Dame Blanche is too small an ice cream for the money. There is also a kind of building heater blaring all evening to keep the temperature down. to keep well. All in all we paid €200 for an evening that was not worth it. I recommend another restaurant!

Een avondje lekker eten met het gezin. Tenminste; dat dachten we. Bij binnenkomst leuk ontvangen. Kaart, drankje; prima! Na het bestellen van het eten kregen we vrij snel het aanbod om nog een drankje te doen. Mensen om ons heen kregen hun eten terwijl wij wachtten. Op zich geen probleem. Toen eenmaal het eten kwam bleek de patat al koud te zijn. Ook het vlees was al flink afgekoeld. De patat hebben we op laten halen. Om niet nogmaals lang te hoeven wachten op nieuw en warm hebben we het vlees wel opgegeten. De patat, moeilijk is het niet om dat te verwarmen lijkt ons, kwam ongeveer 10 minuten na de maaltijd. We mochten het personeel daar nog even aan herinneren. Ondertussen werd ons ook nog drinken aangeboden. Maar die kwam na het toetje. Oftewel… voor een keten als ‘de Beren’ waarvan je zou verwachten dat het wel wat kwaliteit zou hebben vonden wij het erg matig.

A cup of warm water with 2 pieces of ginger and a mini slice of lemon...asking price €4...also a mini sprig of mint that just fit in that cup...asking price €0.50...I CAN'T UNDERSTAND this for the Bears 🙄 Next time ginger tea in a different place.

Had dinner at De Beren on Saturday evening 11-11. Received a warm welcome and shown to our table. Friendly service. The atmosphere is cozy. We had a bread board beforehand and it was very tasty. This also applies to the carpaccio and goat cheese croquettes. Main course we had pork tenderloin and spare ribs and these were also very good! For dessert an apple crumble and a dame blanche and again, this was also very tasty. My husband and I are very satisfied with De Beren.

De Beren has a very nice ambiance. A modern and cozy layout. The starter was good. Unfortunately we had to wait 1.5 hours for the main course. This is really far too long to wait. When the dish finally arrived, the double cheese burger was a bit on the lukewarm side but tasty. Had the Dame Blanche for dessert, which was very tasty.

Tonight we had dinner with a group of 12 people at De Beren in Meppel. Everyone went for a 3 course menu. The choice was emailed in advance to make it easier for both parties. Upon arrival at 6:00 PM it turned out that the WiFi was not working so everyone had to indicate again what he/she wanted. After ordering, we ended up waiting half an hour for just the drinks. The starter - goat cheese croquettes on brioche - was delicious. As a main course I wanted to go for the pork tenderloin, but it was not available. Weird, if you ask me, on a Saturday night. Anyway, tournedos chosen. The entire main course was served lukewarm and the tournedos was so raw that it could almost be put back out to pasture. Crème brûlée was okay. For me this was once and never again.

Very nice location, sleek decoration and atmospheric music. Gluten-free is possible (not tested, we did not place an order) and toilets were clean, only the ladies' hand soap had run out. However, the staff is very disappointing. No one cares about you and other guests also complained about the slow service. I think the ladies behind the bar mostly had a good time with each other.

Bad bad bad! We had lunch here because they had Padron peppers on the menu that my wife loves. They didn't have that. Neither do the tacos with brisket and the loaded fries. Ultimately I chose and received a Caesar salad and club sandwich. The Caesar salad came without the bread and without the parmesan cheese. Furthermore, the cubes of bacon and flaky factory croutons were at the bottom, which seems to me to be on top in a salad. The club sandwich was not a sandwich but two slices of bread with some grilled chicken, a few cubes of bacon on the sandwich and just like the salad, sloppily cut blocks of cucumber and cherry tomato. On top of that a few stripes of sauce, which was the only thing that the person in the kitchen (this cannot be a certified chef) had paid any attention to. Oh yes, there were two poached eggs, which I could have omitted if further attention had been paid to the club sandwich. The menu says crispy bacon, so you can expect actual slices of bacon and not a few loose cubes. Then the service: three sweet teenage girls who clearly have no experience, which unfortunately happens more often these days. Nothing can be done about it, but you can still expect that there will be apologies if the bread is brought to the salad after a long wait. Which, by the way, was not a piece of bread but a slice of bread with a tub of ayoili. It was also irritating that it took a long time for them to see our beck and call, because they were chatting at the bar and didn't look around properly. When paying, there was no question whether everything was satisfactory, so I explained the above story myself. If the food had been good, we would have been able to accept the inexperience of the service, but any person with any affinity for preparing food can put something better on the table for lunch than this. And yes, we did eat it because we were really hungry. Finally: all the cushions for the terrace were carelessly thrown down in the front in a place where you could otherwise have sat comfortably. In addition, it was dry and the sun was shining and you would think that instead of chatting, one of the ladies would quickly provide the terrace with cushions so that you can eat outside.

Made a reservation at 6:00 PM with the AH deal: we wanted drinks cold but were sent back warm, we had to ask for a menu ourselves because they didn't do it and others who came in later had already ordered. Waited over an hour for the entree! Goat cheese croquettes, shrimps were ok but not special. After waiting another while we heard that the tenderloin had run out (while people after us had already received their stuff earlier). Crème brûlée dessert took 45 minutes of waiting!! After much complaining I received compensation drinks. We were with a 7 month old baby and 2.5 hours is far too long for 3 courses. After a 1.5 it became increasingly difficult to enjoy it because the little one had finished sitting still and we did not expect to have to wait that long. sitting there waiting...we actually wanted to leave if we hadn't paid for all that promotion. Drove half an hour for it and it was a waste of time and money!

Everything went wrong with the wines sweet and dry meal not complete. There were 8 of us there, my salmon arrived and after three minutes I was the only one with food so I started eating. The food came with long pauses, which was unpleasant if you didn't get your food at the same time. 2 people had taken the chateaubriand which was brought by someone (in casual clothing which I find strange if you are a chef) who looked so grumpy that we were shocked. I can continue like this. A lot really went wrong. Conclusion: never go to De Beren in Meppel again😕

The food was delicious and worth repeating.

The intention was to have lunch with 4 people on DMD Mokum Day. After waiting about 20 minutes someone came to ask what we wanted to drink, we then asked for the drinks and lunch menu. There are special coffees on the drinks menu that are tasty. (From experience). In my opinion, you should inform your staff before the business starts running or when repayment that these cannot be prepared on Thursday Meppel Day (Mokum Day). So the waitress came back a little later with a message that the special coffees were not available. So I ordered 1 x coffee with whipped cream, 2 x cappuccino and a chocolate milk with whipped cream. There is sugar and milk with coffee, but no spoons to stir it. It was too busy was the excuse. Still only ordered 4 lunch dishes. After about 40 minutes, 1 lunch dish came through, the rest was not brought. Ultimately I went to the "manager", who tried to solve the problem in a nice manner, solution: let us leave without payment. However, we still think it is a shame that it had to go this way. Something else we noticed was that one of the kitchen employees put a towel over his shoulder. Something that we believe is unacceptable from a HACCP point of view.

It took a very long time for us to get our drinks. We stood at the bar twice, then were brought to the table with a meager apology.

Had tea with cake on Meppel Day, delicious! But it is really unacceptable that plastic glasses are still used in this day and age!!

If only we had looked at reviews before sitting here. Large crowded place with incompetent staff. Waiting 45 minutes for a few sandwiches, which are then delivered to the wrong table. 1 girl who is useful to you tries to save the day and removes the sandwiches from the bill. However, the wrong thing is delivered several times by another girl, promises to fix it but always ends up doing something else. What a mess! Finally I walked to the kitchen myself. Child 1 has already eaten the sandwich for fifteen minutes. Child 2 is eating a cold sandwich because the wrong sauce was brought twice and we have been sitting for an hour now! waiting for what later turned out to be cold sandwiches and have already seen several tables with customers passing through... and oh yes, spoons with coffee and cutlery with food you also have to go to the back of the bar. Pay and get out of here quickly!

Staff listens poorly. You order brown bread and get white. And not just with us, but with surrounding tables as well. It takes a long time for the food to arrive and people always don't know who ordered what. Also unfriendly upon arrival if you want to choose a table yourself and are then told that you cannot/are not allowed to sit there

We still had a few 2 for 1 vouchers from AH. To our dismay, those vouchers were only valid for this month. Normally we go to Zwolle, but because they were already at their quota for ah vouchers for the rest of the month, we only went to Meppel twice. Last Friday the sandwiches were rock hard, the kipstiks (children's menu) were baked for far too long and the chocolate sauce was gone. Had to ask for cutlery twice today, 0.0 beer they had to check because it might have run out (they still had it in the end) and the overall quality was not what I have come to expect from the bears. You can also choose less and less with the vouchers. I also thought that we had to pay twice as much, I took a good look at the receipt today. You pay, among other things, 3 euros extra per person if you want satay sauce, 50 cents for a slice of chedar. Well, sorry, but you can still expect that to be included. With 4 people we still had to pay 58 euros extra, which we thought was quite a lot. The last time we ate with the ah vouchers.

Seats and windows were filthy. The menu smelled (the table next to us also thought this). The menu choice we had was not possible, because we had run out of pork tenderloin at the beginning of the evening. Dame Blanche was served with cold chocolate and the whipped cream had already completely collapsed. We found it disappointing.

Unfortunately, there is little choice on the menu on Thursday Meppel day.

When we arrived we were given a table that had not been cleared, was full of dirty glasses. Ordered a beer with a young drink and she didn't know what. In retrospect I should have said it must be boiler 1. The food came from a cafeteria or something similar, worthless. Completely without atmosphere. Never go to the Bears again, what a disappointment.

Went on a quiet Wednesday evening to have a drink and a snack at the bears in Meppel. Within 5 minutes someone came to ask if we wanted to order something, nothing to complain about. Then had to wait 40 minutes for just 4 drinks, without any apologies. The drinks board was therefore omitted. We were almost about to leave. Once never again unfortunately. The branch in Hoogeveen is highly recommended!

Had to wait a long time for the menu upon arrival. When ordering we were told that the ribeye was not there. Ended up ordering something else. Waited an hour for a starter that was lukewarm. Then we waited another hour to hear that the 200gr tournedos were not available and that they only had 1 of the 300gr tournedos. After which we were asked if the ribeye we initially wanted was now suddenly available. Then we were told that they had not even started with the rest of the dishes. We paid for the drinks and left.

Started with a licorice shot, there were bits in it...okay, that can happen, then ordered a satay dish....damn, that was bad, almost black fries from which the fat was dripping, large pieces of greasy chicken and prawn crackers that had dried out all the way from The Hague to Meppel rode for the bears baahhhh never again
