Restaurant Hulscher's in Burgwallen-Nieuwe Zijde

An elegant and well-kept restaurant. The food was good and the waiters were very friendly. We had the duck breast, which was truly tasty, and the famous numbered steak, which was truly delicious.

We used to eat there often, but finally went back. They don't shout anymore (waiters), but the steaks are still numbered! It was delicious! Desserts from Holtkamp 🥰 Highly recommended! 4 stars for the atmosphere, but I thought the decor was awful and not fitting for a restaurant that's been around for 155 years. Too bad. It is a beautiful place in a great location!

Absolutely fantastic. Fast and very friendly service. The food is delicious. I highly recommend The Source of the Light cocktail, which is simply divine!

I often look for calm cafés where I can enjoy a drink and dessert away from noisy bars. This place was exactly what I am looking for. I spent a quiet, relaxing time there, and it was a lovely way to end my day.

Maggie and Jimmy gave us stellar service! The Hulschers had fantastic food! I had the fish and chips, cooked so well, not too crispy and not soggy. The atmosphere was lovely. I highly recommend it!

We had lunch here whilst it was pouring with rain. It was nice and cosy. The BLT sandwich was huge and delicious. Service was friendly but a little unsure, but not a problem.

Extremely slow and inattentive service. We sat outside to eat, and since the waiter didn't come back after bringing the menu, I went inside to order. The same thing happened when paying. Not a word of regret. The food was okay.

Great location, slow to non-existent service

They take a long time. Unacceptable service, bad atmosphere; there are freebies in the bathrooms. They don't care how you customize your food; they'll bring it to you as it says, and you can ask them to change it, but they make you pay as if you've eaten two, and the food is very expensive.

Really nice service from Jimmy, Yash and Doane. They stayed even after 11 with a good atmosphere. Nice people with good quality service and nice chat at the bar.

Last night I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, good food, and excellent gins. The welcome and service were top-notch, courtesy of two guys, Yash and Doane, who were very kind and made us have a great time. :)

Food was really good, but service was a huge downgrade. Multiple wrong orders delivered and no apology or compensation about it what so ever. If you are happy to recieve something what you didn't order, go for it.

Poor service, we received fries after our main course, which we were overcharged for. Very little for a lot of money, the steak was tasty but oh so small, and one asparagus spear? Wow. The only positive was the live music. A richer experience, but we won't be returning.

A really great restaurant in Amsterdam. We were there during the lunch menu, where the choice was limited to about four dishes. But every dish we ordered tasted delicious. I must also praise the service, which took excellent care of us. Especially the lady named: Paulina.

Absolutely loved our dinner at Hulscher’s! The food and service were both excellent. The beef tartare was probably the best I’ve ever had—super fresh and perfectly seasoned. I also had the duck, which was cooked just right and full of flavour. My wife and I asked to meet the chef so we could thank him personally—apparently no one had done that before! He was genuinely appreciative, and it was clear he and his team put a lot of care into everything they served. Great experience all around. We’d definitely go back!

I absolutely loved the ambience of this restaurant. They made all efforts to make me comfortable and welcome. Kudos to barista- Ms. Samantha and her manager Mr. Zhivko - they knew my special cappuccino order and would have it ready when I came for breakfast. A wonderful spot of sunshine located inside the beautiful Die Port Van Cleve hotel in Amsterdam (home of Heineken). 💕

This was our 1st nice dinner in Amsterdam. We stayed at the die port van cleve hotel and ate here a few times. The service was great. Food and drinks were very good! We had steak and cauliflower for our last meal there. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the cauliflower was prepared like we've never seen. The desert was yummy. This hotel, bar, and restaurant exceeded our expectations. A must visit when traveling to Amsterdam!

Says kitchen closes at 22:00 but more like 21:00 as I was informed this evening so don't bother if you're staying in the hotel and want something later in the evening.

Second visit here, the sea food and cote de beuf was very nice. Long and Yash took good care of us!

Very poor experience here. We got oysters, sourdough and the tournedos. The oysters were unpalatably fishy and strangely topped with the fat from prosciutto. They were bad enough that I asked to send them back, which I have never done in my life and I always order oysters. They claimed it was personal preference, though I literally felt unsafe to eat them given the fishiness. They refused to take them off the bill, no apology or attempt to make it right in any way. Sourdough was basic slices, tournedos was just okay. It was supposed to come with bone marrow, which it did not. Lacks ambiance as well. Big fail- I live here and was embarrassed to take a visiting friend. Tourist trap. There are so many amazing restaurants in this town, avoid this one.

Portions very small. Had duck breast with potato gratin. Duck portion was ok but unfortunately almost cold. Unfortunately this made the food poor in quality. Potato gratin in a mini bowl and 2 beetroot balls... So the price performance is not right

Magelyn served us. She was lovely, friendly and very efficient. The steak was unbelievable. Definitely worth getting.

My wife enjoyed her soup and this was great quality. She got her drinks and food before I received anything. I had to ask what happened with my order and the only comment was that it took longer to prepare a burger than a soup. But what another my drink? No sorry or anything from the staff. I ordered an Angus Burger, but after 45 minutes it hadn’t arrived. Went to the staff to ask what happened and comment was “you didn’t get it?” No attention and the people in the kitchen had nothing else to do. Again no sorry for this and anything we can do the make it right. So I cancelled my food. No compensation or willingness to make me feel a valued customer regardless of the situation. Will never come back - and don’t go there is my best advice if you want to feel valued as a guest.

Came here with family, it was really nice to be served a young Vietnamese guy - Doanh. Food is really good - we had burger and fish n chip, good service and beautiful restaurant. Defo comeback!

This restaurant is a rare gem in Amsterdam that is not a tourist trap. The food is the best Dutch food we had in Amsterdam and nearby cities with great ambiance, reasonable price, best customer service (great team Rowena!) and not to mention their cocktails which are just amazing - are you curious on how Thursty Tulips taste like?! Thanks to the walls of INK hotel, we were able to learn that this place was the birthplace of Heinekein! And a very special thanks to Valerio who was kind enough to tour us on the bar were Heineken was first served and let us taste this great beer like we were transported back to an 1870 bar! This place has some history to share and we hope to stay in their hotel next time!

À truly luxurious experience. The perfect place to go for a romantic dinner, an anniversary a great date or birthday. The food was to die for, the meat just melts in your mouth, perfectly cooked, perfect portions. A little salty for me and it is indeed quite pricy but wow, huge props to the chef. We stopped by on a jazz night and the musicians were so talented and provided the best atmosphere to our evening. 🎺🎶 And the staff were all on point! Sharp, quick to service and lovely to chat to and accommodate us. The host? She is a lovely polish woman who loves a laugh and making your night the best it can be. Be sure to get on her good side ❤️

Best place in the city! As soon as you arrive they treat you like family and look after you so well. From sweet freebies to bringing me blankets to get cosy in one of their seats while I was working. Can’t recommend enough and a special thank you to Valero. A must visit!

I was in the restaurant on Sunday for the first time just to try it out. To say that it was a good decision is a tremendous understatement. The meal was amazing, the atmosphere spotless and comfortable, just so inviting. Not to mention, thanks to lovely Romy and her amazing customer service skills, the experience was just as delicious as the food. Five stars, would definitely recommend, You deserve it!

Really great food, had the sour dough bread and steak. The bread had the perfect toasted crunch with really great pairing spreads. The steak was cooked extremely well, super tender, and the gravy on the bottom of the plate really enhanced the entire dish. Well cooked mushrooms and the mashed potatoes were amazing. Highly Recommend!

Very well helped by Paulina. Super nice and hospitable with a smile on her face. The dishes were made from seasonal products and as much as possible from local suppliers. The dessert wine is highly recommended. A child-friendly place where you can draw and read. A place with a lot of history. This year they celebrate their 155th anniversary. Worth eating once!
