Exquisite! Every single dish was creative, flavourful and elegant, the chef is super talented! Probably one of my favourite dining experiences in Amsterdam.

I liked the unique taste and flavors in the menu. Definitely worth to try. Brioche was absolutely fantastic! Nigiri was also amazing. I liked the fact that all dishes were somehow cooked and served in different ways. Dry aged turbot comes with the bone and may not be everyone’s taste to have it on the plate. The place is clean and decorated very neatly. Service was excellent. I can mainly criticize the popcorn in the dessert. As it includes ice cream, cotton candy and popcorn, I didn’t feel any specific taste to feel a leveraged flavor. I wish I could just finish this meal with that brioche (again) or without any desert. Recommend this place to experience!!

Lovely restaurant with great service

We had an amazing evening at restaurant Ja, from the food to the wine and the service everything was just right.

Wonderfully relaxed atmosphere at JA due to the fantastic hostess. In terms of dishes, we expected a little more garnishes or vegetables and the wines by the glass were a bit sparse for the price. Have a nice evening!

Fantastic dining experience!! Highlights of the menu were the North Sea Crab and the Dry Aged Tarbot.

Simply excellent. From food to service. The whole menu was thought through, 'travaillé' and beautifully presented, next to being super delicious. An amazing experience that you rarely get in Amsterdam, even in Michelin restaurants (I find them often overcombined and too complicated). JA became our favourite place in whole Amsterdam. We will be back!

We visited JA last night, March 6. a restaurant run by the owners, without any other staff. Amy, who does the service, is such a great woman. Every guest receives her attention with her knowledge of the food and the accompanying wines. In the meantime, Julius prepares the ingredients for the many courses on the menu. the quality of every dish is surprisingly original and delicious. We say a resounding YES to this restaurant. What a stunning experience from start to finish - one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Amsterdam! Julius and Amy have created something incredibly special with Restaurant JA - from the modern but cosy and intimate decor, to Chef Julius’ passion for sourcing local ingredients and fusing with French & Japanese flavours, to the always spot-on drink pairings with the dishes thanks to Amy. We were blown away by the creativity and flavours in each dish, and the fact that Julius and Amy do this all themselves shows the passion for their craft. We found it hard to pick which dish we liked most as all of them were amazing. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Delicious food, great service and fantastic surroundings/atmosphere

Fantastic restaurant, I will be going for the fourth time in April! It really is my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. The atmosphere that Julius and Amy know how to create is great. The most beautiful dishes and wines pass by. A new card regularly. I would like to go there every month. Great respect for how they do this together! Let it be April soon.

A very special experience. Delicious top quality fish prepared in creative and tasty ways. Surprisingly good wine. Treat yourself and go here.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. Great welcoming. The restaurant is cozy, about a maximum of 20 seats I would say, mostly tables for 2 when we were there. Atmospheric! Quality of food was amazing and the dishes where very creative. Both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic could have been from one of the top tier cocktail bars in the world with surprising twists. Back to the food, several courses of intermittent bite sizes and bigger portions all creative and delicious. Good wine recco’s. And then finally, the dessert. Man, I wish it would have been possible to order an extra one, so delicious!! We will return!

What a wonderful, nice and warm place. We were incredibly pampered with lots of personal attention. The food is fantastic - and my guest and I are critical when it comes to food. Beautiful dishes, high in taste, great textures, not too trendy, but with many classic Japanese influences. The wines were very good, but quite expensive. Non-alcoholic was also special with homemade cocktails by the chef. Nice interior and comfortable seats. Small number of place settings, max 8 tables. In short: highly recommended!

Third time we have eaten here and we are surprised again! Such a good atmosphere and fantastic food and delicious wines! Will definitely come back again.

Absolutely fabulous. From the amuse bouche till desert we were dazzled by tastes and displays never experienced before. The tangarine lacquered dry-aged seabass! A small place with 20 seatings handled by a young, capable and super-friendly staff of 2 (!). Everything flowed at the right pace and the wonderful food was experienced by all guests unisono which worked very well in the atmosphere too. We will be back soon!

This cozy living room restaurant is highly recommended! Amy does everything she can to give you a good evening and Julius cooks fantastic food.

The whole experience is fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful, with an elegant and quiet vibe. Amy is lovely and very attentive to details, while you can see Julius preparing the dishes right in front of you. The food is pleasantly surprising in terms of its unique combination of ingredients and flavors; we couldn't decide which dish was the best! I 100% recommend paying a visit. No photos because we just wanted to enjoy the whole experience 👍

What a pleasure to have eaten at Restaurant Ja. Amy received us in a very friendly and natural manner in the attractive and 'cozy' restaurant. We immediately felt 'at home'. All of chef Julius's dishes were of top quality and Amy's wine advice matched perfectly. Without neglecting the other dishes, the celeriac with boletes and squirrels, and the Dry-aged Turbot with Beurre Blanc were the highlights of the evening. We will definitely come back again.

Restaurant Ja in Amsterdam is an intimate living room restaurant with a maximum of 20 seats, located on Tweede Jan Steenstraat in the heart of De Pijp. The setting is cozy and romantic, with an open kitchen and nine round wooden tables that give off a true “at-home” vibe. You sit right in the open kitchen and get to watch the chef prepare each dish of the tasting menu—a wonderful, immersive experience! The menu is full of delightful surprises—from the Sake Panna Cotta, which is a silky, slightly sweet starter, to the Saffron Brioche Feuilletée that feels indulgent yet light. A standout dish has to be the North Sea Crab, which you can elevate with a supplement of Perle Imperial Caviar. It’s seafood perfection, but at a price! The Nigiri Langoustine keeps things playful and interesting, and the Dry Aged Turbot with Sambelzu has incredible depth of flavor. Even the Seaweed Dessert is a conversation starter—something unexpected but totally fitting with the meal. For €77.50, this creative menu offers great value for its unique ingredients and intimate experience. Restaurant Ja is the perfect spot for a special night out or if you’re craving something a bit different in Amsterdam’s dining scene!

We had a great dining experience from start to end! The restaurant is only run by 2 people, but the service was attentive the whole way through. The Saffron Brioche Feuilletee and dry-aged turbot were particular favourites

This place really did give the full 5 star experience, and worth every penny. Every single course was a unique experience. the atmosphere of the space itself is the best I have ever experienced in Amsterdam. This place is a must visit if you enjoy tastings. We’ve been to many tastings but never had this amazing of an experience unless you count in the 2 Michelin star + categories. Thank you Julius & Amy!

Very well taken care of by Amy and Julius. We were a group of 7, including a customer for whom the restaurant was certainly suitable. Nothing was disappointing, neither the food nor the wines, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Can recommend it to everyone!

Probably the best meal we’ve had in 3 years

Every bite perfect! JA has been my favorite restaurant since they opened. The food, every dish created by the genius chef in front of your eyes so delicious. The wine perfectly picked out for you by the excellent sommelier…and even the music playlist made me enjoy the evening more than I thought was possible…..should you go? JA!

Went again with my partner and it did not disappoint. Food was great, service was very pleasant and the atmosphere was pleasant. Make a reservation again soon.

It felt like having dinner hosted in the privacy of their own home. Restaurant Ja in Amsterdam is an adorable and charming spot, open exclusively 3 nights a week with just 8 tables for 20 guests. Run by a loving and beautiful couple without additional staff, it offers a chef's menu that's perfect for those who appreciate fine food in an intimate, homey atmosphere. Great experience within this price range. 🍞Food 5/5 Every dish was a delight. Chef's classical French training shines, ✨ but you’ll get hints of his love for Japanese cuisine peeking through. 👉🏽His ingredient choices feature fresh North Sea fish, dutch wasabi and many other locally sourced (Dutch) ingredients. 🇳🇱 😍But the highlights were definitely the Saffron brioche feuilletée and the dry-aged turbot. Wow. ✨This Saffron brioche feuilletée with crème crue, was a punch of flavor: still warm from the oven, beautiful yellow color and bursting with flavor coming from the saffron and butter. ✨...but my perfect bite came from the 5 days “dry-aged turbot”: SO RICH in flavor and the hints of the Konro Grill with the Sambaizu beurre blanc made this dish one I will remember. 😳Minor points of feedback: ‼️I noticed the nigiri rice was pre-formed, which is different from traditional Japanese sushi preparation. Guests familiar with authentic Japanese cuisine might appreciate nigiri made fresh to order for a more authentic experience. It's a small detail that could elevate your already outstanding dishes.🥰 ‼️Despite enjoying every dish, we found ourselves still a bit hungry after the meal. Perhaps offering optional supplemental dishes could cater to guests with bigger appetites? 🤲🏽 🤗Service 5/5 Your service was warm, attentive and personal. I appreciated being served by BOTH the chef, and wife maître. The pace of serving started quite brisk (felt a tiny bit rushed - but understandable given just you 2 are serving 20 people). Fortunately, as the night progressed it slowed down. I appreciate the attention to detail, such as folding the napkins back when leaving the table for the restroom —a sign of more formal hospitality and dining etiquette, which I LOVE. 🤩Ambiance 5/5 Fine dining in a calm, homey setting. The ambiance at Restaurant Ja was cosy yet refined, with soft, tranquil color palette (beige, white, woods) reminiscent of Japandi interior style. 

And with just 8 tables, it felt exclusive and personal, perfect for an intimate dining experience. 

The open kitchen added a touch of theater, allowing us glimpses of your culinary magic. 😍 Conclusion: For those who appreciate fine food chefs menu’s (French with hints of Japanese), but in a more intimate, homey setting, Restaurant Ja is a must-visit. A 5/5 Google stars reflect my overall feeling of the night.

As passionate home chef and fish enthusiast, this restaurant is amazing. The couple runs it by themselves in a small setting which adds to the charm. They manage to surprise, opening with Saffron brioche and ending with dry aged fish followed by seaweed ice cream. Highly recommended!

Super tasty and special dishes!

A place you'd rather keep to yourself. But of course that wouldn't be fair for the hardworking entrepreneurs and the other guests, so go ahead :-) What a nice evening we had. Sitting relaxed, wonderfully seated and even though there are only two of them doing this, there is still so much time for everyone. We will definitely come back!

It’s a small, cozy operation run by a husband and wife, who provide great service and great food. The food and ambiance are refined without being overly formal; and the wine selections are always on point.

I have no choice but to reinforce this 5.0 star status. I have eaten at many beautiful restaurants, including Noma. This couple works together to create a top menu and experience. Delicious flavor combinations that will leave you amazed. Every dish again. And the accompanying wines, beers and sake are totally appropriate. What a beautiful tent and nice people!

Magnificent food like we've never had before!!! The brioche with saffron, nigiri with yuzu cream and the beetroot with Japanese smoked pepper, everything is super creative and innovative! The downside: portions were very tiny and the wait between courses was very long. The food, however, was so incredible that we will definitely come back! (but make sure to not come very hungry)

Delicious food! Super friendly service and the chef also brings dishes to the table himself. They work with a tasting menu, which we really like. The comment is that it is a bit small. Don't go with a big appetite. This beautiful business belongs to a married couple and the two of them run it. Small and attractive, in the middle of the Pijp. Home game for us and very happy with this pearl in the backyard. We will definitely come back! Unfortunately, Google keeps rejecting my photos, so I can't attach them.

Fantastic hidden and intimate gem in Amsterdam! The couple who run this restaurant know what hospitality and delicious food is! The sea bass prepared on a green egg with a beurre blanc was truly phenomenal. Nice wines on the menu!

An absolutely perfect experience on a Saturday evening. The only choice is the set menu, consisting about a mix of seafood and vegetables. All dishes were delicious, especially the artichoke and the langoustine. The way the dishes are presented is beautiful. The setting is cosy and convivial. The service attentive. Would 100% recommend.

We had a really nice night again at Restaurant JA. The new dishes still have the French & Japanese signature. Really like the winelist with classic and natural wines. The hospitality of Julius & Amy is great, see you hopefully soon again!

If not the best, one of the best tasting menues in AMS, excellent flavors, my only suggestion would be to add courses to the menu. Definitely coming back here next year!
