Restaurant La Cantina in Burgwallen-Nieuwe Zijde

Had a amazing lunch at La Cantina, found it by just walking around, wanted a little taste of home. Lasagna Bolognese was delicious, not what I am used to with Lasagna but still was exceptional. My Wife got the diavola, and that was 10/10 no comments or anything that could’ve been better. Pricing is reasonable for amsterdam, and the location is off the “beaten path” but not too far. Nice atmosphere, great staff, music playing was very good also. Overall this was the closest we could get to being in Italy in the Netherlands. Order the Pane e Burro, worth the 5€. Definitely will stop by again when back in Amsterdam

One of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had honestly. The dough and even the cheese had no taste. The salami wasn’t covered in any cheese at all, that means it was just put on top of it at the end.

Efficient service and respectful staff. The food is more than adequate, with satisfying portions. However, the prices are quite high for what's offered. Overall, a good experience despite the slightly high prices.

Two nights running. That's the review, really, but I'll elaborate. La Cantina sits just off the main drag, which is exactly where the good ones hide. First night we went in for pizza — pepperoni piled on with a generosity that felt almost personal. We came back the next night because we couldn't think of a single reason not to. Risotto, and a seafood linguine that I'm still thinking about now. The service has that quality you can't fake: unhurried, warm, nobody hovering, nobody forgetting you exist either. And yes — spotless bathroom, which tells you everything about how the kitchen is run. Amsterdam is full of places angling for the passing trade. This isn't one of them. Go, eat too much, then go back tomorrow. We did.

The food (spaghetti Bolognese and pizza funghi) was really good. The service was rather taciturn. We had a great break right in the city center.

The food tasted like nothing. They charge €25 for salmon pasta with tasteless supermarket salmon. The risotto was just rice soup with mushrooms. And the anchovy pizza was completely unsalted 🙃 Please, switch to making burgers; that's really hard to mess up. Seriously.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. While the pizza tasted really good, the rest of the visit was disappointing. The staff seemed very unfriendly and inattentive. They didn't ask if everything was alright or if we needed anything else. What was particularly annoying was that our table was already partially cleared while my friend and I were still eating. This restaurant might be sufficient for a quick bite, but if you're looking for a relaxed evening in a pleasant atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. It's a shame, because the food really deserved much more.

We happened to find this place while looking to have lunch . We ordered spaghetti and food came really fast . Their spaghetti was spot on ! We can’t get over how delicious it was . Wanted to return to have dinner but couldn’t make it. Next time!

This is probably one of the best Italian restaurants in the center of Amsterdam, with an excellent value for money. The food is genuinely delicious and high quality, and the service is both very fast and friendly. The place is cozy and romantic, perfect for couples. We’ve already been twice. The prices are also very reasonable compared to Amsterdam standars, and trying the tiramisu is an absolute must if you visit.

Everything was very delicious, and we really enjoyed the food. However, the overall impression was spoiled by the waiter, who seemed very dissatisfied with his job and showed a lack of interest in serving guests. If there is any kind of customer service training available, it would be beneficial for him to attend and improve his communication with people.

Wonderful place. Good food, excellent staff. Seating on the outside is a plus, because the street is charming. (Also, take a look at a gift shop in front of there. They have rings, house decorations, etc. It's a nice shop, and the owner is very kind.)

Terrible service and generally not that nice. Super basic italian food, but overpriced. Definitely better restaurants in the city.

After a horrible mishap where the waitress spilled boiling hot cream sauce on my foot and gave me a decent burn. The whole staff just disappeared with mess left half done around our table. The cheese and complimentary Olives where removed when they later came out to clean up the mess, only for us to remind them to bring the food back. We got a very muted excuse and no effort of making up for the injuries in any kind. I am just thankful I had switched seats with my 7 year old just 2 mins before the food got to our table. Went to wash up in the toilet just to discover there were no tissues or toiletpaper! All together unfortunately a horrible experience all due to lack of service/hospitality. And that also at a pricier place like this one.

Restaurant La Cantina is such a charming restaurant! We stumbled upon this place unexpectedly, and decided to try it on a whim. No reservations but yet the staff accommodated us and we were well taken care of. The food was very fresh, arrived without any delays and the entire staff was kind and friendly. Definitely coming back here and highly recommend it!

We visited this restaurant in a quiet time last Wednesday. We really liked the cosy atmosphere and the welcoming service. Food wasn't bad at all but I expected more considering the price. I'd love to have better quality olive oil with my starters. In addition I would like to have a better quality toasted bread with my bruschetta. The bread i had was harder than it should. Pizza wasn't perfect. Cheap cheese and blunt tomato sauce. On the other hand the rump steak was spot on. Worth the price tag. Burata was good. Good job there.

We arrived and we're seated quickly, we were told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes, we ordered drinks immediately and food a few moments later. The drinks brought out were not what we ordered but that was resolved. The main courses were brought out before we were halfway through our starters and we were asked to pay before we had finished our main course. We felt very rushed. The food was poor quality. Nobody enjoyed their meal or the experience. If you cannot offer a decent dining experience close to closing time you should turn the business away

Every chef has their own unique touch. But you won't leave hungry. You'll be satisfied. We asked for homemade wine. We were disappointed in that regard. The wine we received left me with the impression that "you can find it at Migros too" 😉 Enjoy your meal!

Good food but ordered dessert at about 10pm and they came back and told us they couldn’t do it as the chef had gone home and we had to leave as they were shutting up. All a bit weird on a Friday night in a capital city.

We made a reservation at Gio Cusina, but the table and behavior were so bad that we left, of course we didn't sit down and we accidentally went into La Cantina Rest. We were prejudiced, but it was great, everything was delicious, it was given 4.2, but I think it should have a score above 4.8, you should definitely try it.

If you're in Amsterdam and want delicious Italian food, La Cantina is the place to be. The food is served quickly and tastes delicious. The Cantina pizza and Penne all'arrabiata pasta are highly recommended.

If you are looking for a place to eat with your kids this is not the place. I went in looking for comfort food as it was 12 degrees and raining outside. My baby is non walking age, so he was in his stroller. After one step in, a lady comes and tells me I can’t sit even tho she has plenty of empty tables. I asked why? She said she has no space for me and my baby. Not even “sorry”. So here I was, freezing, raining and hungry with a baby cuz of your kindness.

Disgusting!! The worst Italian restaurant we've ever been to. The food was of very poor quality. We ordered mushroom risotto and spaghetti carbonara, along with two glasses of white wine. We also had to buy water because they wouldn't serve us tap water. The risotto was flavorless. The pasta carbonara was awful and undercooked. The wine was watered down and bad. They discounted one of our dishes because they saw we couldn't even finish it, and it's not cheap. When we left the restaurant, I had a stomach ache and wanted to return it. I would never go back.

A really lovely place, cozy inside and outside on the terrace in a street near the church. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious, the pasta was also gluten-free, and my steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. I had a Pornstar Martini sorbet, which was also very tasty, and my mother had the Teramisu. I ended up ordering another Teramisu because it was the best I'd ever had, haha. Thanks and see you next time! Ginger and Mama Mia!
