Unforgettable Experience – Excellent Indian-Pakistani Cuisine in Amsterdam! We traveled to Amsterdam from Frankfurt and were lucky enough to visit this wonderful restaurant. With five children, we are often skeptical about how the service deals with larger families, but we absolutely loved it here! The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive, which made the visit particularly pleasant for us and the children. The food was an absolute highlight – my wife and I enjoyed every dish. The flavors were authentic, fresh and perfectly balanced. We would particularly like to highlight the warm service, which made our visit unforgettable. We would like to thank you very much and can only recommend this restaurant!

We came just as they opened so we were the only ones so atmosphere/service not quite up there. However, the food. We were recommended to try here from a local guide and I'm so glad we did! Had no idea what to expect so tried roti (chicken) and nasi/bami (lamb). Both were so good. Standout was the ginger beer, I could drink a gallon of it! **Be aware if you are not used to spice, it definitely had some heat!

I ordered from RIAZ and clearly no egg, meat or fish was typed in the comments, but apparently that is not read in your pocket but you have an allergy. After I got a roti with EGG and CHICKEN, I called and she called a rude girl after I asked for a solution. asked "there was nothing...we can't smell it" she repeated this several times. Finally I said that I would put my frustration in a review and this girl said "is this how you solve it?" The upside down world!! I will never order anything again and if you have an EI or Andre allergy I would certainly not order because it goes wrong / is not read, no solutions for orders that go like this and no nice person on the phone.

I had guests visiting and ordered some meals here. I've known it for years, but I haven't been there for years. Ordered saoto soup, noodles, nasi and white rice. Satays, chicken drumsticks and of course some vegetables. It was all doable for me. My guests found the white rice and nasi a bit salty, but the meat was tasty. Too bad the last dawet was given to the customers who ate there and there was no more in stock. In terms of service, I received reasonable help, I notice that with the 'other' customers the staff is very polite, but with average customers you should leave as quickly as possible. This tent has also become pricey, but that probably has to do with the competition and the times we live in.

Top adresje! Super vriendelijke bediening met mega lekker eten! Zeer basic restaurantje, qua inrichting, menukaarten en drank maar meer hoeft dit niet te zijn. Absolute aanrader!

Recommend the salt fish bara! It was my favorite. The peanut soup was so spicy and flavorful! The duck curry was amazing too. It seems like this is a great family run business.

Ever since I was little (1990s), my parents and I had been coming to Riaz for food. I always wanted the chicken in a sauce. Years later I still come here and the food turns out to be just as delicious as before. The ordering started over the phone and a friendly man took my order. We would come and pick it up. The interior of the store appears to have turned out beautiful. A pleasure to eat here next time. This time we took the food with us. The food was packaged very neatly and separately. This meant you didn't have soggy nasi or noodles. You could now decide for yourself whether and how much sauce you want on your food. In terms of taste, everything was delicious. Well seasoned, not too spicy and add some pepper to make it more spicy if desired. The chicken and satay was excellent. Just like before. Thank you. We will come back here soon.

This restaurant has been around since 1981 and was founded by Mr. Riaz, whose son Tariq and his family are still cooking and running the restaurant. Mr. Riaz mother now 75 years old and is still in the kitchen doing her magic and cooking up Surinamese food. Mr. Riaz his no more but his legacy and cultural contribution to Amsterdam lives on in this institution he has left behind. This restaurant not only had good food but good story. The family is so inviting and friendly. This restaurant will not only be memorable to me because of the warm people but also it was the first time I ever ate Surinamese food. The two dishes i ordered were the roti with chicken and lamb curry which gave me a feel of Indian side of Suriname and then bami with beef, which gave the Indonesian side of Suriname. Both dishes were in touch with their roots of origin but also different. I can see the influence of Indonesian in the bami beef because of the kecap Manis base in the sauce of the beef. The curry had a dominant tumeric flavor more leaning toward Bengali style curry. What was unique with the curry was the addition of Asian long beans, and it works! I liked it. The roti was what we in India call roomali roti or handkerchief roti. It is very thin roti and larger size that is folded. There is in house ginger juice that grandma makes in the kitchen. Make sure to order that with the meals. I will definitely back in any future visit to Amsterdam. Thank you for your story and food.

Had a very bad experience at Riaz Today 09/02/2024. I advise people not to order here. Not friendly at all and lack of communication.

Good food. A lot has changed after the fire. I thought they were closed for almost a year. No idea why so long. They certainly wanted to get away from it all after existing for so long. I was craving the rice, brown beans and chicken. Unfortunately they no longer have that as a dish. You can order rice chicken and then brown beans separately. I think it's a shame because it costs a few euros more. Fortunately, the taste has not changed. What has changed is the interior. A world of difference. From old and dilapidated to new and fresh. What I have noticed is that the old cozy/homely atmosphere has become a lot less. Maybe it's because of the new interior (very modern). I will definitely come back. After missing you for so long.

Food is great, but opening hours make no sense.

We have known Riaz since the 1990s. And the food is very good. We have lived outside Amsterdam for over thirty years, but when we have the opportunity we get food at Riaz and it remains good! We have already tried several alternatives, but they always stand head and shoulders above the rest. The service is more than pleasant, in short, we think this is a top restaurant!

This was such a great find! I noticed there were quite a few Surinamese restaurants in Amsterdam and I decided to try this one out, I didn't regret it! I ordered the soya chicken with rice, it comes with veggies and spicy sauce, it was so delicious!! I also tried the chicken and potato curry with paratha, also really nice. The price is fair as well when you consider how expensive everything is in Amsterdam. Staff were friendly too with quick service. Would definitely recommend!

Gisteren uitgenodigd door vrouw en dochter om te komen eten in Riaz. Zij waren er al. Ik bestelde op hun advies de vegetarische roti. Verrukkelijk! Met crispy krokant gebakken tempeh! Delicious food, really delicious.

Top eten. Was afgelopen woensdag met mijn vriendin een avond eten gaan eten. Het was zeker een dikke 5 sterren waard deze restaurant. De prijs is mij beetje aan de hoge kant eerlijk gezegd. Maar de roti was onwijs lekker en saoto soepen waren ook zeer aantrekkelijk kom weer terug naar deze Surinaams restaurant.

Love this place! Have done takeaway multiple times now and the food is always of high quality for a very fair price! A traditional place that has been here for a very long time already. Not sure about the dining atmosphere but experience, but food wise, for sure a recommendation.

This place is amazing. I cannot rave enough. I got the codfish bara which was heaven in my mouth. Truly a delectable experience that was just everything I could have wanted and more. I also got the lamb roti which was so moist and delicious. Like they can really cook. Every bite was an adventure . Transported me to another culture far away from the rainy dutch lowlands

We hebben heerlijke roti’s gegeten met kipfilet. Goede prijs, en druk (nu weten we waarom) het was echt heerlijk! Schoon, vers en hele lieve bediening. We moesten bijna vechten voor een plekje en een tijd rijden maar dat was het echt waard! We hebben nog genoeg over van de grote porties om lekker thuis op te eten en zijn zeer tevreden.

Ik had een tello met nasi saté en het was echt heerlijk! Ik heb er echt van genoten. De beste Surinamer in Amsterdam. Ik kom zeker terug😋

Nasi, bami en roti stellen nooit teleur bij Riaz. De lekkerste doks eet je ook hier! Ik kom graag terug voor de doks. Al met al heerlijk eten. Enige wat ik zou willen verbeteren zijn misschien de porties iets groter maken. Eten is te lekker, ik heb meer nodig.

Toen we 8 jaar geleden in Amsterdam woonde hebben we hier regelmatig besteld. Nu waren we in de buurt en hebben hier weer een keer besteld. De pindasoep is net zoals vroeger fantastisch. De bami en roti waren gewoontjes niet bijzonder van smaak. Bij de saotosoep waren de droge bijgerechten bij het ei gestopt. De prijzen zijn hier enorm gestegen veel meer dan bij andere zaken. Dus helaas ondanks de pindasoep niet meer voor herhaling vatbaar.

Ik kom al jaren bij riaz om eten te halen..gister voor m’n visite daar bami en nasi besteld.. 15 porties.. werd allemaal geserveerd in aluminium schalen, groente apart, Satesaus apart, kipsate apart, zuur apart, kipfilet ketchap apart.. iedereen kom opscheppen.. iedereen vond het heerlijk! Top service… m’n familie was blij en ik was super blij! Iedereen heeft genoten! dank je wel Riaz en tot snel!💕

Very cozy restaurant. The food was really good but we had to ask for help to order ad the menu was only in Dutch. However, the staff speaks English. It actually took a while to get both the menu and our dishes, hence the 4 stars for the service. Recommended!

Het restaurant dat écht nog aandacht heeft voor de klant. Warm en hartelijk ontvangst, eten op alle fronten GOED. Smaak, temperatuur, én tempo waarop het opgediend werd. Fantastisch! Dikke aanrader! Mw Spoor.

Voor het eerst gegeten bij Riaz. En zeer tevreden over de kwaliteit, smaak & klantvriendelijkheid. Een volgende bezoek komt zeer spoedig.

Ontzettend lekker eten!! Mijn man had tijdens zijn werk hier wat afgehaald en was erover te spreken, dus gisteren samen teruggegaan en in het restaurant gegeten. Oprecht de lekkerste rotirol die ik tot nu toe in Amsterdam heb gegeten, en overheerlijke bara en gebakken banaan. Ook meer dan genoeg keuze voor vegetariërs. Lieve vrouw die ons verwelkomde en lieve meid in de bediening! Ik zou wel aanraden om te reserveren, het is niet heel groot en ik denk dat je anders (in het weekend in ieder geval) teleurgesteld wordt. Wij komen zeer zeker terug! :)

RIAZ hit the spot! Had the fried cassava w/ salt cod, and then the duck roti. Cassava was perfectly crispy and hot, cod was addictive. The roti was bomb. Excellent heat level that I could have spiced up even more with some sauces they offered. Service was friendly and efficient. Lovely place.
