Because I can currently only eat adapted meals for medical reasons, I contacted them in advance. I received an immediate positive and friendly response. We made a reservation for September 24th and immediately had a good feeling about the atmosphere (cheerful, cozy, living room-like). The staff were aware of my request, were accommodating, and even asked after the meal if I had had enough, among other things. Very nice. A lovely end to my birthday on Ameland!

The food was absolutely delicious (the lamb), but unfortunately, there were very few side dishes. The spaetzle were gone after two forkfuls, and the mashed potatoes fit on a single spoonful. I was still hungry, even after dessert.

Friendly welcome, very nice staff, excellent food – all the dishes we ate were delicious, slightly higher prices but fully justified. Thank you for the wonderful stays at Restaurant Stranders.

We were in the mood for coffee and cake. We asked the waiter what kind of cake was available. Well, there were two types of cheesecake, namely with rhubarb and with apricots and plums. We both went for the rhubarb cheesecake, but we received a harder Viennese pastry with a little cream inside and 8 pieces of rhubarb.

High-quality food, simply delicious, perfectly balanced, and excellent value for money! We always love coming back here 🩵

Super food, great staff. By far one of the best restaurants on the island with a very cool laidback atmosphere. The food is absolutely stellar and the staff is amazing, friendly, kind to children and the overall vibe is just great. We’ve been coming here now for I think 10 years or so and we keep coming back.

We anticipated to come to this place for a long time. The service was exceptional and explained everything. The food was however not prepared well at first and we got another serving done quite fast, but sadly I lost the appetite to eat anything. The fries were not that tasty and quite overdone. The drink prices were quite expensive, we wanted a big bottle of water which turned out only to be 500ml for 6€ :(

The restaurant was very good, as was the service. I ordered fish and chips with battered fish; the battered fish was very tasty and a good size, but unfortunately the accompanying portion of chips was very small.

August 2026. Had an incredibly bad meal, what a disappointment! Bread and two shrimp croquettes as a starter. This was still okay, but not much can go wrong with that. The fried plaice is terribly bad, truly neither crunch nor taste. Never eaten anything so awful!!!!! Not fried until crispy, and also far too greasy. Furthermore, the whole thing looked anything but appetizing. Then the fried kibbeling, so dry, also terribly bad. Impressive that you can ruin such a simple dish like this! I get so angry when a chef stands in the kitchen without any passion whatsoever! They really don't care at all. After all, you pay a lot of money, so you literally expect value for money. Furthermore, we had to wait a ridiculously long time for our food. Naturally, we didn't have dessert or coffee; when paying, the lady asked if we had enjoyed ourselves? Clearly indicated that the food was really very bad. The lady's reaction at the cash register: too bad, I will pass it on. Furthermore, no compensation whatsoever! You will understand that we left this place as fast as we could. We wasted over 80 euros. We sincerely wonder what the good reviews are based on. It should be clear, therefore, that we strongly advise against this restaurant.

The absolute worst price-quality ratio I have ever experienced in my life. 165 euros for 4 people, and we are now sitting at Cafeteria Het Hoekje eating fries because we were all still hungry.

A really nice place to go out for dinner with children. We booked yesterday with a couple of friends and a total of 6 children. The service was super quick and attentive, and the children had a wonderful time playing in the playground. The food was delicious. Great!

Stranders impresses with its high-quality cuisine and very professional and attentive service. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent, as were the wines on offer. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and offers plenty of outdoor seating when the sun is shining. A small playground keeps children entertained, allowing parents to relax and enjoy their meal. Highly recommended.

We were unfortunately disappointed with the food. The fries were way too salty, the fish platter was underwhelming, and there weren't enough mussels. The burger wasn't to our taste either. The purely vegetarian dishes were just basic frozen food and not to our liking. I think if you want a good meal, you should eat at a restaurant where the locals eat, like "De Griffel".

First visit, 5 days ago, at 5:30 pm in the open-sided conservatory with prawns and oysters. Absolutely delicious! Second visit at 5:30 pm in the "closed" outdoor area due to a "thunderstorm warning," but the sun shone anyway until dessert. The lamb steak was exceptionally good this time. The kitchen isn't just good at fresh fish! We'll be back next year, because we also ordered the fish dishes to go twice. Many thanks to the entire team!

A great discovery and a valuable addition to Ameland! Super friendly people, a stunning and spacious terrace, and a fish platter that was genuinely top-notch. Highly recommended for anyone enjoying their time on the island.

It really is the worst we have eaten in ages. Chicken and kibbeling, you’d think nothing could go wrong with that, but it is truly scandalous that they dare to sell it, not to mention the price: 5 pieces of breaded chicken tenders and a portion of kibbeling, 14.95. But apart from that, if it had been 2.95, it would have been just as bad. I know there isn't much choice on the island when it comes to takeout, but I want to warn everyone against this place. Bad chicken, fatty and full of tissue, and 50% of it is thick, tough; the kibbeling was also of questionable quality, as was the accompanying sauce.

Beautiful place where we ended up by chance (pun intended). Delicious fish platter for 4 people on the stunningly spacious terrace. Pleasant, relaxed service by the owner. Flavors far (!) above expectations. Excellent value for money. We’ll be back.

Portions too small for the price, service unfriendly and poor, long waiting times (one hour after the appetizer for the main course), food was sometimes already cold!!! All in all, I wouldn't come again because the prices don't match the quality and service!!!

Thirty years ago we were there for the kibbeling. Now we're finally back and of course we ate kibbeling again. It tasted fantastic, super fresh.

Every year during the May holidays, we always go to StrAnders twice. Friendly staff, a good/consistent menu, and a cozy atmosphere, both inside and out. And also great for takeaway!

They advertise for takeaway. But the food is very mediocre. Small portions of fish and chips, the salad is nothing special and not tasty. Everything is quite expensive. The staff is not exactly friendly. It was ready quickly, though, so that was a positive point.

Every time we stay at Klein Vaarwater, we get a bucket of kibbeling here one evening. Super fresh. Tastes amazing. And a great price. Tip: just stop by to order. The website doesn't always show the correct waiting times.

This restaurant was chosen because of the child-friendly recommendation, but it was disappointing. Outside, there were broken toys, and inside, there was nothing for children to do. The children had to go through the front door (and the street) to the small playground. It is a pity that the connecting door was not opened.

We had a delicious fish platter for two. I found it plentiful and tasty. And I don't like fish with bones. So the plaice went to the other side of the table. My favourite was the red snapper. Nice wine. We didn't have to wait long for our food. The salad I ordered separately was super tasty. Especially the onion, which they pickle themselves. Because of this, I didn't have any stomach upset.

We've been coming here every Good Friday for years and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent, it's always the same staff, the food is great, and the value for money is absolutely fair. Saturday, March 14th, had a delicious meal. It's a shame there were only 2 oysters left, but the mussels and the fish platter were amazing. So, an evening of pure enjoyment. Thanks to Team STRANDERS. We have eaten here often in the past but keep coming back. It was nice that our dogs were welcome too. 🙏✔️🤎

Friendly and professional welcome and service. Tastefully decorated and plenty of space. The food was excellent. Compliments to the chef's skill. The fish was superb. Good taste, well-prepared, and fresh ingredients. The price-quality ratio is also definitely excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends immediately.

What incredibly nice staff!! The interaction with us and the children was incredibly accessible and almost cozy! The food was delicious and the wine was good. The price was also very reasonable! The new owner-to-be (effective February 1, 2026) explained to us with (justifiably) pride that they won't be changing the staff or the concept. We will DEFINITELY come back when we're back on the island.

After visiting Ameland many times and never having eaten at Stranders, I finally decided to make a reservation. What a surprise! Delicious oysters! A varied fish platter. Then homemade banana bread with delicious purée and ice cream. The staff were incredibly friendly. Definitely worth a visit. 100% definitely going back!

What a fantastic experience! We found ourselves in the middle of a noisy company party, but... the staff found us a quieter spot and kept checking in on us. And then the food arrived; wow, delicious! Despite everything that could have been disappointing, we had a wonderful evening!

Probably the best restaurant on Ameland by far! I'd especially like to highlight the lovely atmosphere and the extremely friendly staff. You feel at home and receive very friendly advice and service. The food is of very high quality and the prices are more than fair. What's especially great is that you can also take most dishes to go – there's a small stand right next to the entrance with a view of the clean kitchen. The kibbeling is highly recommended.

The mussels, an appetizer, lacked a bit of flair. The main courses, a seafood platter and a fish platter for one person each, were attractively presented and very tasty. The pesto, in particular, was a taste experience 🤩! We would gladly come back.

The menu is varied, with a focus on fresh fish and seafood. The salmon ceviche was a great starter, and the sea bass for the main course was absolutely perfect! The staff's wine suggestions were spot-on, and the service was friendly and professional. In short, an absolute must for anyone who enjoys good food in a beautiful setting!
