I visited ‘t Schouwtje for dinner when staying in Wassenaar. Its charm and traditional, rustic setting nicely complemented the closing of the day. The staff were kind and welcoming. A cozy gem.

It’s nice to keep traditions but it’s so uncomfortable inside. Small tables and thus extremely hot bcs you sit 25 cm from hot stone. While food and service perfect.

Lovely, cozy old-fashioned fondue and/or stone grilling. Super friendly staff, top-quality meat/fish, and even vegetarian options. The ambiance is really nice and cozy.

A very good restaurant serving meat or cheese fondues; both are excellent and generous portions. The atmosphere is pleasant and offers a change of scenery. We received a warm welcome and they accepted us with our dog. A great place to get away from it all during the holidays.

It was delicious, only the pieces of meat could have been neatly cut into pieces. Now you get the impression that here you have it and you can manage with it.

What an authentic restaurant! A super fun atmosphere, a delicious stone grill with excellent meats and superb sauces. The staff was very attentive. The ice cream dessert was delicious, and the kids even received a gift (and no, not with a "-" at the end) that made their jaws drop. Thanks, and see you next time.

Delicious gourmet, super tender meat and nice service

It's not what it used to be. The waitress was clearly having a bad day; she was grumpy and curt. The sauce containers are no bigger than an egg cup for 5 people. We were put in a booth next to the front door, which was very cramped and cold. We don't go there often, but the times we've been, parking has been better. What a shame!

This is the place to go if you're unfamiliar with Dutch culture. The food is good, especially the salt-free fries and the state sauce, which are well-seasoned and not too salty. Highly recommended.

Yesterday, my wife and I had a wonderful meal at Restaurant Het Schouwtje in Wassenaar. We chose the stone grill, and it was a fantastic experience: a cozy way to dine, and the meat and side dishes, including fries and salad, were of excellent quality. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and more than enough. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. A truly special feature was the bell at the table, which signaled to the staff that service was needed. It truly felt like a night out. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys delicious food in a cozy atmosphere!

After making the reservation we wondered if there would still be green garlic sauce, the red dressing on the salad and the coupe mantelpiece, we were so happy that there was. The ten of us again enjoyed all the goodies and the service was great.

It's great that there is still a restaurant where you can enjoy gourmet food and stone grilling. There is an authentic atmosphere

Personally, I find it quite remarkable that such high (4+ star) reviews are given to this restaurant. It wasn't bad, but I'm afraid that for many visitors it has a heavy sentimental value instead of a real quality value. We had chosen the stone grill, but this was really disappointing. Quality of meat was nothing to write home about, tasteless 'marinade', no pronounced taste differences. It was not my first stone grill session but I have to say that this stone grill session in this restaurant is right at the bottom of the list. No sentiment for us and we will not return here unfortunately, as it is a really beautiful location and a cozy atmosphere.

Went here for stone grilling with 5 colleagues. Beautiful cuts of meat, nice atmosphere, pleasant service. Despite the fact that the bed was busy, you were not bothered by excessive noise. Highly recommended.

So cozy… traditional and friendly…. We did HotStone and Fondue for the first time. The explanations were friendly and understandable. The service was super fast and if something was missing you had a bell. Quality was great and the ambience more than 5 stars ⭐️

What a super nice, cozy, atmospheric restaurant this is and so hidden in Wassaar! You step back in time 100 years. Delicious meat, great service, nice and cozy. And absolutely not expensive! We will definitely come back to try stone grilling again (and that plate goes like a charm). Order extra meat for a very reasonable price. Super tasty steak and what large pieces!

This is a super cozy restaurant in the style of a brown café. You can have stone-grilled cheese fondue or eat a la carte. No matter what you choose, everything is very tasty and fresh. This time we opted for a la carte and we had a delicious meal. First a bit of baguette with delicious herb butter. As a main course we had a meat skewer with different types of delicious tender meat. The salad was tasty and the fries were nice and crispy. The service is very nice and attentive. All in all a very nice evening and highly recommended!

A family favorite 40+ years ago when we lived in the area. Returned on vacation and loved that it is just as wonderful.

Just had a drink during a walk through the Wassenaar forest. So I can't say anything about the food, but it is a nice and atmospheric place in old Dutch style. Definitely visit again to try the cheese fondue.

Cozy tent. Just no time for a starter. You only had 2 hours. Flesh and stone came before we were properly seated. It was very tasty.

't Schouwtje is a household name. I've been coming here since the blizzard of 1979. And nothing has changed in that time. From the decor, to the tables and chairs, the sauces on the table, and the entire ambience. As if you are taken back in time. So nice, so tasty, so familiar. Really bizarre! And for dessert? A sorbet: a very large glass that I looked up to as a small child and had difficulty finishing!

Went here for dinner with a group. Atmosphere not my style but fully implemented. We had cheese fondue and stone grill. Cheesefondue. Stone grill was fine, cheese fondue reasonable. Dessert very very good. I'm going to try it again here 😀

Raw chicken is on one tray next to the pork. Really a no-go. It's stuffy and uncomfortable.

The mantelpiece has been a household name for us for 30 years. I live 250 km away but when I'm in the area I want to eat there. Friendly staff, meat quality really fantastic. Salad, fries, baguette, herb butter and all kinds of sauces, including peanut sauce, included in the price. Everything is always replenished. I don't understand where people get any kind of negativity from. There is also a good price for drinks. I don't know why the negative one customers can write this. I can only imagine that these guys want a red carpet and free food. A BIG 10 for me

Years and years since we were here last. (at least 15 years). we walked in and nothing had changed yet. still cozy, still good food, still friendly staff and still very hot during stone grilling. :-) Nice that we were there again. we will definitely come back and now sooner than 15 years.

What a great evening we had. Pleasant service! Good food (stone grilling) and a delicious dessert. We were really full. And then you just lost 80 euros. We understand why it is such a good tent. The ladies will have a hard time with such a full tent and sometimes a lot of nagging people, like 2 reviews ago. If anyone is demanding, it is me and this is simply a top tent. The store is decorated very nicely! Christmas at its best. The service is also really great! Friendly, fast and enthusiastic! We had reserved well in advance and opted for stone grilling. The peanut sauce was super tasty! Meat was also really great. We were completely full but still managed to eat dessert, which was also very tasty. I understand why it is always so full in such a cozy tent. We will definitely come back again!
