Restaurant Vermeer in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

Excellent fine dining restaurant easily reachable from Amsterdam Centraal. Came here for dinner and took the 6-course menu. The dishes were well-executed. Among the 6, the “squid & bacon” and the “royal” stood out the most for their impeccable flavour. Service was 5/5 - amuse bouche as well as palate cleanser and pre-dessert were included in the course.

Ate here via lekker.nl. A fantastic 4-course dinner with an appetizer beforehand. We were received very warmly and we were actually approached on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. People felt that we were the guests. Then you are already 1-0 ahead. The dishes and drinks were served to us at a nice pace. The matching wine arrangement was great! What a good sommelier. Not only talk about the wine of origin and the like, but explain why this wine goes with this dish. Then you enjoy double. The chef also regularly came to the table to serve and explain. This also included a lot of extra information. There were 23 different types of vegetables on 1 plate. We enjoyed it. Thank you team Vermeer.

The most disappointing dinning experience I have ever had. The food was nothing special. Most of the dishes were cold. The service was beyond terrible. We had the wine pairing - wine was often late and for one course it was missed completely. We had to ask for water over and over and over again. We sat with dirty plates in front of us for over half an hour after multiple courses. It took over 4 hours to get through the set menu. At one point, after having been ignored for so long my partner went and got water from the bathroom, that’s how bad the service was. Of course when we got our bill, we were charged 16 euros for water. Such an unbelievably awful experience. We left hungry, thirsty, and annoyed that we just paid $600 for such a horrible time on Valentine’s Day.

Teleurstellende ervaring bij een restaurant van de MICHELIN Gids Onze ervaring bij dit restaurant voldeed op geen enkel vlak aan de verwachtingen die bij een dergelijke benoeming horen. Vanaf het moment van binnenkomst verliep alles moeizaam: een matige ontvangst, gevolgd door een wachttijd van 30 minuten voordat het eerste drankje werd geserveerd. Het duurde vervolgens nog eens 45 minuten voordat we überhaupt een menu ontvingen. De bediening was ondermaats en ongeorganiseerd, en elke gang liet veel te lang op zich wachten. Het eten zelf was lauw en de wijnkeuze zeer beperkt. Dit niveau van service en kwaliteit is absoluut geen ster waard. Het is onbegrijpelijk dat er vanuit het management geen enkele interventie plaatsvond om de avond te redden. Een uiterst teleurstellende ervaring.

Disappointed to see a chef in Amsterdam making racist comments about Black and Muslims. The culinary world should be about inclusivity, culture, and respect, not discrimination. Racism has no place in hospitality, and such remarks create a toxic environment for both staff and guests. Holding people accountable for their words and actions is essential to fostering a welcoming space for everyone. I hope to see a sincere apology and a commitment to better values.

Visited on 8/1/25 at 7pm. Met by a rather unfriendly and odd waiter/maitre d’, who seemed confused when we said we had a booking. He asked us if we wanted a glass of champagne. We said we’d wait until we were seated. He then disappeared for a couple of minutes leaving us standing there, then reappeared without explanation for his absence and took us to a table. There was only one other diner in the restaurant at this point, but we were seated directly opposite him so watching each other eat for the evening. Not ideal. We were again asked if we’d like some champagne. Thinking this must be complimentary we agreed. When we came to pay we realised we had been charged for the champagne. Not impressed. However, apart from this waiter, the other staff were lovely, and most importantly the food was superb. We chose to have 3 courses, and they tailor a menu for you. We are vegetarians and they produced some wonderful, creative and beautiful dishes, as well as amuse bouche, pre-dessert and petit fours. I believe there is a new chef at Vermeer, and I’m not sure if the restaurant still holds a Michelin Star; the food certainly deserves it, but the gentleman who ‘greeted and seated’ us definitely needs some training in basic manners and common sense, and not pushing expensive drinks on customers already paying €350 for a meal for two.

Ambient/“moody” lighting and atmosphere (liked). Tasting menu starts from 4 courses all the way up to 7, which we chose. The about of the food increased from subtle tones to richer as the courses arrived, which wasn’t our expectation for the beginning part of the meal. Expect meal to cost €300 prior to wine. Servers were incredibly attentive and conversational.

Io e mia moglie abbiamo deciso di festeggiare il nostro ventesimo anniversario in questo splendido ristorante. Location elegante ed accoglienza splendida. Il Maitre, Dannis, ci ha fatto sentire a nostro agio, è stato sia amichevole che gentilissimo, varrebbe la pena cenare al Vermeer solo per conoscerlo. Per quel che riguarda il cibo, abbiamo optato per una degustazione da sei portate (che sono state pensate tenendo conto delle nostre gravi allergie) veramente ottima e saziante. Lo chef in persona è venuto a salutarci al tavolo rendendo ancora più magica questa esperienza. Se volete cenare in un posto di classe, romantico, ed ovviamente mangiare bene, il Vermeer è il posto adatto ad Amsterdam.

Very good restaurant with very good 4 course menu and more via Dining City. Good price performance ratio.

We had a great time at Vermeer and the staff was incredible. The whole concept is very unique as you choose how many courses you want to eat and there are very few tables (there were only 7 other people in the restaurant the whole night). We chose 7 courses; all the food was wonderful and I was extremely full by course 6. There was one course that my husband did not like and the staff made a different item just for him. Hicham was wonderful and made the whole experience special.

Restaurant Vermeer remains a favorite place for us. It can be difficult to maintain the trust of guests when there is a changing of the guard at the wheel, where the new chef also wants to show his own style. Our evening at Vermeer was very well organized, delicious in terms of taste experiences, in which vegetables still play a major role and nice to see the new staff members. We had indicated that our son would like to celebrate his 18th birthday with a dinner and Vermeer even surprised him with a beautiful cake to end the wonderful dinner. What a gift.

Deliciosa comida, el chef oh sí tienen la magia, definitivamente bien recomendado , nos lo pasamos muy bien , la atención fue genial , la comida impecable , buen precio ! El vino era tan bueno.

En el momento en que llegas al restaurante sabes que estás en un regalo. El personal es excelente y nada era demasiado problema. Optamos por la cena de 7 platos y no nos decepcionó un poco. Envié un correo electrónico al restaurante de antemano, ya que tengo alergias alimentarias graves y me quedé impresionado por cómo el chef y su equipo hicieron frente a ellos, me hicieron mi propio menú vegetariano y fue una de las mejores comidas vegetarianas que he comido en mucho tiempo. Mi compañero tenía el menú "normal" y él tampoco se decepcionó en absoluto. Fue una gran manera de pasar mi cumpleaños. Recomiendo encarecidamente, pero es necesario reservar con antelación.

Esta es mi segunda visita, y quería presentar el restaurante a mi marido, ya que es un gran fan de los restaurantes con estrellas Michelin. En mi primera visita me quedé impresionado, por cómo se preparó el menú, la calidad de los ingredientes, y el servicio amable! No vivimos en Amsterdam, pero hemos visitado para un tour de gastronomía. Mi marido y yo estábamos tan impresionados por la estética, la porción, el maridaje de los vinos interesantes! Lo más destacado fue el enfoque brillante de las verduras, así que correctamente juzgado con el sabor y las calorías, simplemente perfecto - y eso es como alguien que visita este tipo de restaurantes a menudo. Precioso restaurante con un muy buen y agradable atípico. La comida era increíble. No es difícil conseguir una reserva. El restaurante es muy acogedor.

We ate a 4-course menu at the well-regarded Vermeer restaurant via Heerlijk.nl. We had imagined something more. - they were very small portions. If we had not eaten sandwiches with butter (extra request) we would have stopped by the Febo after dinner; - the first dish was a tiny salad with all kinds of small vegetables. Besides the fact that this could really be eaten in 1 bite, it had the taste of... Salad - nothing special - the service, not well coordinated and always someone different at the table, of which 1 person was also completely unintelligible. Messy. - the sommelier. We asked him to explain something about the bottle of white wine we selected. “It's fresh and goes with everything”… We could have come up with that ourselves. We are used to other sommeliers who really know something about the wine. - my husband wanted red wine with his entrecote, besides the fact that it took too long (the entrecote was already half gone). When paying, it turned out that this glass cost 17.50! It was a nice wine, but the price should have been mentioned in advance; - the bill. There was 80 euros (!!!!) too much for dinner. Luckily we found this out for ourselves when we examined the bill…. What was good: - the dish with onion; - the chicken liver sauce with the entrecote; - quiet, pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant

We had an amazing evening at the Vermeer. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were well looked after by everyone who took the utmost care to make sure we had a good experience. We had champagne and appetisers to start, followed by the full tasting menu with wine pairing. Every dish we tasted was our favourite until we the next one and then that was our new favourite! There wasn't a single course that was a disappointment. Each dish was explained and it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into creating the menu. The flavours were both intense and delicate which must take a lot of skill from the chefs.We also enjoyed all the wines which really enhanced what we were eating. We have eaten in a number of Michelin starred restaurants in the UK but this was undoubtedly the best meal we've ever had.

De bediening was erg goed. Dat de kok ook af en toe gerechten persoonlijk momt toelichten vind ik echt top. Het eten was echt erg goed, echt een belevenis om hier te eten. De prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is erg goed. Ik was er mijn zakenrelaties en daar is dit restaurant uitstekend geschikt voor. De enige misser vind ik de enorme wijnkaart, niet het aanbod maar de prijzen. Dan ben ik misschien een zuinige Hollander, maar de flessen wijn onder de 100 euro moest je met een microscoop zoeken. Bijna alle wijnen waren tussen 200-400 euro. Belachelijke prijzen.

Vermeer was wonderful. Very French but very Dutch. Our somm was friendly and informative. We would fortunate that we were the first night for their Fall menu and they asked us for our feedback. The chef explained things and made it a richly engaging dining experience. Wine pairings were great to amazing. Highly recommended.

Exquisite food. Flawless service. Had the 5 course tasting menu. Flavours and creativity combined with cooking passion made this one of the best meals I've ever had. if only they wouldn't play tinny dance music....

From the outside you don't even know that it's a restaurant, there's no sign yet it's an establishment that you should see from afar, it's so good! Thank you to the French kitchen assistant for coming to translate the different dishes for us. De l extérieur on ne sait même pas qu il s agit d un restaurant, aucune enseigne pourtant il s agit d un établissement qu on devrait voir de loin tellement c est bon ! Merci à la seconde de cuisine française d être venue nous faire la traduction des différents plats. Merci à toute l équipe féminine qui nous a servi très gracieusement en salle et en particulier à la sommelière par son charisme à la hauteur de ses vins. Weer heerlijk gegeten bij Restaurant Vermeer. De service van Björn, Fallon en Shannon ervaar ik altijd als zeer prettig. En als pluspunt, sturen zij je het menu nog eens achteraf toe.

La cena, el servicio y el ambiente muy especiales! Recomiendo totalmente el pescado con zapallitos, una experiencia Umami. Todos los detalles estaban cuidadosamente expuestos y estudiados. Lo acompañamos con un vino blanco de Austria, fue extraordinario!

Nice fine dining restaurant. Service is really good. Many choices for wine. Food was interesting. You can understand why they have a Michelin star. I didn't like everything but it depends on everyone's taste. The best was the negroni (sweet, not drink).

Absolutely amazing dining experience. My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and chose Restaurant Vermeer for our special dinner and we couldn't be happier with the decision. The service from start to finish was impeccable - friendly & efficient. And the food was wonderful - both the vegetarian menu for me and the regular menu for the wife. Complex flavors and textures - each course was its own special experience. If you're looking for something special in Amsterdam - I highly recommend it!

Spectacular meal tonight at Vermeer restaurant. Fabulous food and wine pairings with the 5 course tasting menu and excellent service. Brilliant sommelier, a real character. Perfect.

The 6-course menu was great, they had gluten free options for every dish (my girlfriend's coeliac).

The food was fantastic and the service was also top notch. We had a 4-course menu and received a small intermediate course for each course. The initial worries about not getting enough were absolutely unfounded. We can highly recommend this restaurant. The visit was in November 2017.

2nd time here, still amazed by the team work. First time we were here, we were shocked by the team. It's like watching a symphony, everyone works at the same pace. There's rhythm in all the staff's movement, a look, a gesture, make all the team move at exactly the same precise seconds. But 2nd time, I didn't see that. All the rhythms gone. So the magical feelings disappeared! But... Love our 6 course menu & celebration menu. The best is to pair with wines. The Sommelier is knowledgeable & amazing, love every single wine they picked and pairs for us. From greetings to saying goodbye, Restaurant Vermeer make sure they treat you like an old friend. Can't believe this time, Chef Chris introduce his cusine himself, we feel very lucky.

We came back here the second time after the pandemic, and it is just as amazing as our first experience. We love this restaurant. It's one of this Michelin star restaurant that not only served innovative and delicious food, but also offered and unforgettable dining experience. The courses were served in a very coordinated fashion. All the dishes hit the table at the same time. Moreover, all the cutleries and dishes we picked up not only at the same time, but also in the same order. Our 6 courses dinner were served up by different members of the staff in that very precise manner. The staffs seems don't exist, when you don't need them, be but they all magically appear at the same time when they sense any need from the customers. They pay close attention to every little thing, making this a wonderful experience that you will not forget.

The flavors of dishes were quite avant garde. Jalapeño sobert for appetizer and green curry cream for desert were interesting and quite an experience. The service was elegant, ambience neat. It’s a good one time experience.

Naast de 5 gerechten van het menu, kregen we diverse amuses en tussengerechtjes geserveerd, dit alles vergezeld met goede wijnen en broodjes met roomboter. De bediening was enthousiast en de sfeer was uitstekend. Prijs kwaliteit is heel goed.

Not at the height of expectations. Food was pretty, but not very tasty.

Gister zeer goed gegeten bij Vermeer. Op aanvraag 5 gangen vegan. Zeer attente bediening en verrassend lekker vegan eten. Lekkere wijnen met beknopte uitleg. Ben geen veganist maar mijn tafelgenoot bijna wel, dus wilden we wel eens op niveau vegan eten. Dat kan dus blijkt.

Every plate was a piece of art. The food showcased not only chefs culinary abilities but also his artistic sensibility.

Very lovely experience overall. I generally don’t eat much sweets, happy I decided to have some this time as the desserts were really excellent and the wine pairing was superb!

Overpriced, overestimated. Waste of of money and time. We took 6 plate tasting set, starters were good, vegetables were ok, but main courses were disappointing, we returned our plates ,and the chef even didn’t interested why this happened. Desserts were not bad, but not wooow . Must admit good vine card and friendly stuff . Service was good. After complaining to the waiter whey took from the bill one course. We are not waiting to be back

Es war unser letzter Abend in Amsterdam und wir wollten ihn einfach genießen. Das hat auch wunderbar geklappt, das Essen und das Service waren perfekt und die Weinkarten ließen keine Wünsche offen. Die Käsebar war hervorragend bestückt und wir haben jeden Gang und jeden Schluck genossen. Das Personal sehr aufmerksam und freundlich und das Ambiente wirklich angenehm. Beim nächsten Mal ist ein Besuch hier sicher eingeplant.

First of all I wonder why the newest review is about one year old. I was just now at the restaurant with my wife. We had a 4.8 gourmet Menue , there was a starting part of the menue consisting of an ice cream, made out of cucumber and jalopenos combined with green lettuce. I would give this starter at least 5.5 points The halibut and the duck were perfect the Indonesian ravioli in between really excellent. The service was 10 stars. And the wine Liste for a wine aficionado a real pleasure. In the restaurant you sit not very near to other tables, so your privacy is consisting. la Sommelière était très grande. Easily, EASILY, one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam. The food, often locally sourced, is made with exceptional care and respect. Every course was engaging, unique, and above all, delicious. I’ve been here many times and will surely be back again soon. If you’re visiting Amsterdam add this place to your ‘must do’ list - you won’t regret it.

Restaurant Vermeer is one of my favorite places to eat. I have visited the restaurant multiple times over the last 5 years. The consistency of quality and attention to detail is what sticks with me the most. The staff is very friendly and professional. When they serve you a course it feels like a well choreographed routine as they will present the dish at the same time for all the dinner guests. The food has been consistently amazing. The flavour combinations and daring dishes - the Belgian andive apple pie for example - are confirming that the chefs know how to cook top-class food. Next to that, the sommelier makes sure you have a great wine paired up with the dish. It has been absolutely amazing and I am looking forward to my next visit.

We stop by to have some snacks and drinks. During Christmas time Amsterdam was packed with tourists, too crowded. We were very happy to find a quite place to sit down after a long walk. The food was very tasty, fresh and good quality. The place was nice and clean. Friendly staffs.

We had an absolutely stellar dinner at Vermeer. Every one of the six courses (and everything not mentioned but included) was delicious. The wine list is one of the best in the city. The service is absolutely world class. The team has such genuine joy and passion for what they do and it really shows. Chef Naylor occasionally serves some of the dishes himself, a very nice gesture at this level of cooking. A dinner to remember and we can’t wait to come back!
