Basque restaurant with very nice ambience, friendly staff and a large selection of wines. We enjoyed everything that we tried, it is however quite expensive.

Excellent food great service and expertise

We stopped here out of the blue with our young son, because of the ambiance in the entrance. They have a childrens option which is very good, our son liked it. The Food was very aromatic and the grilled option was better than we expected. We took the spear ribs and the Crab dishes with the Very good tomatoes salad. The service was Fantastic!

A lovely stay, excellent food and fine wines

Fabulous dinner as always. One of the most consistent steakhouse experiences in Amsterdam, from the attention to the food quality to the preparation to the wine list. The entire staff is excellent and purposeful. The turbot beautifully cooked. The dry-aged 15 year cow delicious, the chorizo appetizer delightful, and the cheesecake (though not proper Basque style) a wonderful end of meal dish. Perfeto :)

★☆☆☆☆ I was really looking forward to dining at Sagardi, but unfortunately the service was extremely disappointing. I was served my glass of wine promptly, but after that I waited 30 minutes just to place my food order. During that time, I tried several times to get the attention of a waiter. He acknowledged me by gesturing that I should wait, but never came back, and no one else offered to take my order. After waiting half an hour, the waiter finally returned. By then, I had completely lost my appetite. I paid for my glass of wine and left without ordering any food. I cannot comment on the food because I never had the opportunity to try it. However, the level of service was unacceptable, especially for a restaurant with such a strong reputation. Unfortunately, this experience means I will not be returning.

A gray mouse on the outside, a colorful parrot on the inside! 🦜✨ From the outside, Sagardi looks rather unassuming – you could easily walk right past it. But those who cross the threshold find themselves in a completely different world. Inside, a truly chic, high-quality ambiance awaits, including a seriously cool show-cooking grill and a dry-aging refrigerator that will make any meat lover's dreams come true. The food? Absolutely fantastic. And the best part: For this quality, the bill won't break the bank – the price is perfectly reasonable. Oh, and because it needs to be said: Even the restrooms were spotless. Verdict: Never underestimate the unassuming exterior. Inside, your taste buds will have a party! A must-try.

The entire experience from start to finish was incredible. The service impeccable. The food delectable. We loved everything about our time there. Manuel was especially attentive and gave us recommendations for wine and food. We will continue to return again and again!

Top service, nice atmosphere, good food, and a great location in the heart of the city center!

We started with the chef’s complimentary mini chorizos, which were a nice gesture but ultimately just average. We ordered the charred octopus, which was beautifully plated and cooked perfectly. The lettuce hearts were the standout dish of the night fresh, flavorful, and easily our favorite. The croquettes were also just average. I do want to mention that all of the staff members we interacted with were warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. The service throughout the evening was excellent. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the grilled cod. It was served al dente completely. For a grilled fish dish, this was simply unacceptable. Ironically, at €32, it was the most expensive dish we ordered, and no one at the table could eat it. The restaurant also offers whole fish grilled over charcoal, with the least expensive option starting at €170. After being served raw cod, we couldn’t imagine spending that much on a whole fish, as it left us questioning how those would be prepared. Overall, the meal started with promise, and the hospitality from all of the staff members was outstanding. Sadly, the raw cod overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience.

This place is highly overrated. What a disappointment. We ordered the Donostia-Style Seafood Soup listed under “Grandma’s Home Cooking.” Traditionally, this particular dish is a rich, flavorful Basque soup brimming with white fish and shrimp—at least that’s what a quick internet search reveals. Sagardi’s version is a pathetic rendition of what should have easily been a deliciously satisfying culinary experience. Instead of the classic Basque fish soup we anticipated, we received a bowl of dark, bland broth with exactly three tiny pieces of white fish and two pitiful shrimp. Indeed, at first we weren’t sure if the soup contained any fish at all as we had to search to find the five lonely scraps of seafood floating in the sea of broth. When we mentioned our surprise and disappointment to our waiter—whom we barely saw throughout the course of the meal—he replied, “Well, it’s not a hearty soup.” Not a hearty soup? Pardon me. Yes it is, at least according to Basque tradition! Do a quick google image search for yourself and see what this soup is supposed to look like. We aren’t sure what Sagardi’s chefs are thinking, but we would bet that their grandmother would turn over in her grave if she knew what her grandsons were serving in her name. And she would be even more appalled that they were charging 29 euros for it. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

An absolutely delicious dinner! The freshly grilled fish was amazing, and the King Halibut we ordered today was absolutely incredible! So good! I always come to Sagardi when I'm in Amsterdam. 😋

★★☆☆☆ I brought an important guest here hoping for a fantastic premium dinner. The evening actually started out great. The staff was lovely and our artichoke, red pepper and sausages starters were excellent. But then the main courses arrived and turned this into one of the worst value for money meals I have ever had. Out of a 400 euro bill for three people, the most expensive items were complete failures. The 189 euro premium steak was the biggest letdown of my life. It was way too salty and lacked any depth of flavor. The 120 euro fish was just as disappointing. It is such a shame to take a fresh high quality product and drown it in garlic oil until there is absolutely no fish flavor left. We finished with a Basque cheesecake that was just okay but desperately needed a tart kick like fresh strawberry jam. It is a great spot if you just want wine and appetizers at the bar. But as a main dining experience to host a guest, it was a massive disappointment.

The service is always really nice and helpful. We have now been twice and fully trust the staff to “make up” the dinner for us based on the starters they recommend. The steak is MOUTHWATERING but the best part is the cheesecake!! The music inside is not too loud but there is enough of a buzz that you can have a private conversation. Sagardi is probably one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam.

Getting a reservation at Sagardi Amsterdam was a great way to kick off our honeymoon! The space is very chic and artistic, with an interior that feels sophisticated yet warm. The star of the show was the Txuleton, which is their signature premium bone-in steak from old Basque dairy cows. It is aged for at least four weeks, and they actually let you see and select your specific cut before it goes on the grill. The quality of the meat is incredible—dry and super fresh—and it was honestly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, even compared to the top spots in New York. While the other dishes were fine and it can get pricey (especially if you dive into the wine list). If you just arrived in Amsterdam and want a truly memorable, high-quality meal, this is a perfect spot.

A one-of-a-kind experience! From the professionalism, kindness, and cheerfulness of the waiters, through the aesthetics of the food presentation to the wonderful taste of every dish we ate. From the first courses of heavy feta, asparagus, artichoke salad, lettuce salad, carpaccio with warm and delicious bread, and then the main course was premium beef with bone and fat that literally melted in the mouth, followed by fiera, potatoes as fries, and peas with snow peas. The desserts really closed out a wonderful meal in an amazing way: rice pudding and strawberries in warm coulis sauce with homemade sheep's milk ice cream.

There were six of us for lunch. It was our first visit, and we highly recommend the restaurant. The ambiance is simple but nicely done. The food was truly excellent; the starters were simple but expertly prepared, as was the grilled sea bass. Not inexpensive, but top quality. 😁

A lovely place with spectacular food

Great dining experience with delicious meat 🥩 the traditional sausage was also amazing 😋 We visited as a couple with a baby. Unfortunately, the high chair didn’t have proper safety support. The staff also came across as a bit pushy—despite being just two adults, they kept encouraging us to order 1 kg of meat. When we chose a portion of mature beef sirloin instead, the staff member made comments suggesting we should have ordered the larger portion and taken leftovers home, which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. For a restaurant of this quality, this kind of behavior is not appropriate. For that reason, I’d recommend dining here with at least three adults.

Everything was amazing. Congrats to the guys who attended us and to the kitchen, everything was on point. You can really see that they work fresh products and top quality.

The food was excellent - we particularly enjoyed the steak experience. The menu is diverse and we would have loved many other dishes, but we came for their approach to meat. Excellent wine list! Definitely expensive, but a great experience overall.

We stumbled onto Sagardi after a canal tour and were absolutely blown away. We ordered the monkfish prepared Basque-style, and it was easily one of the best seafood dishes we’ve ever had, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The baby leeks were another standout, simple but incredibly delicious. The service was fantastic, attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming. It was our first meal in Amsterdam, and it set a very high bar. If you want authentic Basque flavors and a special atmosphere, don’t hesitate. A must visit!

Last summer with my girlfriend we went in San Sebastian (where she say YES) and was Amazing. Last our visit in Sagardia we feel exactly same like there! Level of service and food quality in highest level. Carpaccio,steak and cheescake❤️Just Love It!!!

Great place. Simply best premium steak in town

The food was unique; the bread with olive oil was delicious. The halibut was fatty and oily, but not cheap. The appetizers were also very special, and the waiters were handsome and polite. One of the best meals I had during my stay in the Netherlands.

The waiter suggested a meat dish without mentioning the price, speaking in rapid, barely understandable English. When I saw the Google reviews showing prices per 100g, I asked about the price of the meat I'd ordered: €110! I was able to cancel, but the feeling of being ripped off lingered throughout the entire meal... right up until the bill arrived, where we were charged for two baskets of bread instead of one! The food itself wasn't bad, but it was overpriced for what it was, and their business practices are questionable. Avoid this place.

This is just great. Nice and conveniently quiet on Mondays we experienced a great birthday party for three. Ans day what?! The waiter even really sang for us!! Good quality food. We asked for a chefs menu and that is what they understand very well. Choose for the Rioja from the house 😍. Have visited previously and will definitely take the opportunity to visit again!

And the icing on the cake was the attention to detail, including birthday wishes…

We sat at a table next to the bar, which was quite tight and the waiters kept knocking a chair. Annoying. The chairs are uncomfortable - wooden with no cushions. Hard to sit on for a whole meal and in a premium restaurant. The waiter explained how the food could be ordered but we understood very little. Plus, half way through the meal he offered to take our coats. The starters were tasty and decent sized portions but the starters didn’t come together. We ordered sea bass for four people at a cost of £120. Unbelievable. This was very expensive for one fish. Plus, it was swimming in oil. The sides were extremely small and the twice cooked wedges we ordered were just chips. I found the service to be arrogant and patronising. Also, we had to chase for drinks many times. Plus, when the drinks came, he handed them to us and did not remove the wine glasses, which should be when no wine is ordered. As we left, having spent over 300 euros, not even a thank you or goodbye. In summary, I’d not go back because the experience felt arrogant, judgemental, and the prices were of a fine dining restaurant that was neither met by food quality or service. My phrase is, charge what you want, but the service and quality needs to match the cost. *** Updated 26-11-25 *** I completed the survey they emailed me on 05-10-25, and I requested a refund because the meal had been so poor. I had to chase for a reply 4 times. Then, I finally received a reply on 26-11-25 offering some appetisers and wine. We live in the UK and would not travel for that anyway. Poor. Overall, not only was the restaurant experience one of the worst I have ever had, but the communication and resolution was very poor too. I'd never go back, even if it was free. With so many great restaurants in Amsterdam, try anywhere else.

We’ve always enjoyed gathering with friends at Sagardi because of their exceptional food and warm atmosphere. Unfortunately, our last visit was quite disappointing. One of the orders was incorrect, but to their credit, the staff fixed it promptly and charged us the correct price for the intended dish. However, two of my friends ordered codfish, and while the product seemed fresh, it was not well cooked, which was unexpected given our previous experiences. After our meal, we ordered desserts and hoped to enjoy one last glass of wine with the cheesecake. To our surprise, the waiter—though very respectful—told us this was not possible because we could only stay for 2.5 hours. This policy was shocking to us, as we couldn’t find any mention of it on the website or in the reservation details. This left us feeling rushed and disappointed. Sadly, this experience made us reconsider leaving a good tip and whether we’ll choose Sagardi again in the future. If the goal is to become a “money machine” restaurant, then we’d rather spend our money elsewhere, where hospitality and flexibility are valued as much as the food.

We were greeted warmly on arrival and immediately loved the atmosphere. Julian looked after us and was fantastic knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great food and wine recommendations. We started with an amuse-bouche from the kitchen (chistorra), which was amazing. The meat was superb, the sourdough was delicious, and the wine was great. Service was attentive with great attention to detail. A really enjoyable experience! Great food, great wine list, and excellent service. Highly recommend.

Can definitely say this one tops Barcelona. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. For people that don't understand how it works here. You pay around £13.50 per 100g. You choose the weight of steak you want from the counter, and there's no steaks under 1kg so they are for sharing. Steak was cooked to perfection, mash was creamy. Great wine selection if your into that

As a Texan, I’m ashamed to say this is the best steak I’ve ever had. I have been to my share of steak houses all over Texas, from the coast to DFW to Lubbock and to Austin. And this was the best. Me and my husband had the aged premium matured beef and they grilled it over a coal fire. It was so delicious!! The fat was like butter and the flavor was amazing. It was a little pricey at $150 on the steak for us to split but, it was worth it! It was a very large steak and there were left overs. They had a welcoming knowledgable staff that helped us pick a wine and a side to go with our steak. Next time we are in Amsterdam, we will be back. Definitely try this place out if you’re looking for a delicious steak to have a food coma over :P

Simplicity in the best possible way! The turbot was absolutely delicious, and the steak was one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. Everything grilled to perfection. It may not be a cheap place to eat, but it's worth every Euro. Friendly service, cosy and informal atmosphere: I'll be back soon!

The meats and fish were outstanding. Sides were very good also. Only one positive constructive comment . The restaurant should have recommended more Basque specialties. Having visited the region on both sides of the French/Spanish region, more Basque foods would be nice.

A truly remarkable and memorable dining experience. We discovered Sag a Sagardi thru our hotel, the amazing Estherea. And certainly, were so pleased to do so. The seafood and meat forward menu was superb due to the grilling and simple prep. Every selection comes from their farm in Espana. The sides were also delicious with a full selection of farm to table items. In fact, a over ordered for the side dishes were large like the entree. Our main was a monk fish grilled to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Two people easily shared one entree. In addition, the service was impeccable. We had a full team supporting every element of the meal. With such grace. Overall, highly recommend. In a great area of charming restaurants, Sagardi is a stellar option.

We had dinner tonight. The meat was delicious, the wine good, but I didn't think the price/quality ratio was right. Furthermore, it only became clear what we were charged when we paid. The meat turned out to be €135. I have to say it was tasty but not so special that I would pay that again. It's a shame, and a tip anyway: tell us the price beforehand, because that didn't happen. In fact, the meat was more or less forced upon us, and there was little opportunity to choose anything else from the menu. It's a shame and a missed opportunity. We won't be back anytime soon.

Beautiful food and the service was first class

What an experience. The fact it is cooked over a open fire made it so much more special. As a South African we love to Braai and I felt right at home here.

The staff bent over backwards to look after my 90 year old grandmother. The food and wine were great. Highly recommend the red tuna, pan fried cod, cheesecake and Argentinian Malbec.

It’s pricey but I couldn’t recommend it more.

We came to Sagardi based on a rec from a neighbor that lived in Amsterdam. The hostess and server really pushed their dry aged meat hard, but we wanted monkfish and reason for our visit. They sell meat and fish top based on weight they dictate the weight each night and it was either 1200 or 1600 grams. The price is 12eu at 1600 would make it 192eu. The weight of 1600 seemed huge and we were not that hungry. After seeing our hesitation, the server agreed to "allow" us to order 800 grams. We had monkfish, swiss chard side, bread and i insisted on tap water. They brought out 4 slices of bread with some tiny sausages and never explained to us that it was complimentary. I only found out it was complimentary when i overheard another table. These tiny sausages were super salty, chewy and flavorless. My water came in a refillable and tasted normal and i assumed it was tap water as i had requested. When the fish came, I knew immediately it was a racket with the weight. The majority of the weight was the huge bone that did NOT belong to our fish. I still held out hope for the taste of the fish. I was disappointed by the bland flavor of the fish and the only thing that saved it was the mediocre buttery sauce that it was drowning in. They put massive butter in the sauce to enhance the flavor but it was still flat. The swiss chard was bland. The 4 slices of bread was small and also flat. We had to ask for butter to enhance the flavor but it was unsalted. When i got the bill, they charged us $102 for the fish and claimed that it was 850 grams based on the weight. Total crap! The part that angered me the most was the 4eu charge for the water. When i brought this up to the waiter, he claimed it was not tap water, which was another lie. He made a big deal how he has to get someone to remove the $4 euros. I paid the bill and felt so scammed by this restaurant and do not trust them at all with their BS weight. Check out my supposed bone and fish and explain to me how i only got one side of the fish and the weight is 850 gram? Yeah right!! The restaurant was 1/2 empty so I guess they have to make their money on stupid tourists like us.

Radisson Blue helped with this suggestion and for that they offered us a party of 8 a welcome drink. We all chose the sparking wine, very nice. Ordering entrees of meat or fish is based off grams and the pieces are pre sliced so some meats will cost up to $100. Be cautious. We did not go that route and ordered different entrees like tuna, pork ribs and duck. All dishes were very good and decent portions. You can also order sides and most dishes came ala cart. They offered us a complimentary orders of local sausages which tasted like linguiça. Bread service is offered at a cost per person. Overall nice place to dine in a good part of Amsterdam.
