SPECTACULAR… Nothing more to add. Speechless. We tried Dutch beef instead of Spanish… And it's what I said before, and I'll say it again… speechless! Spectacular. Both the appetizers and the meat… 🔝 💯 Plus, all the staff speak Spanish, FANTASTIC! And thank you all for treating us so well. And the icing on the cake was the attention to detail, including birthday wishes…

We sat at a table next to the bar, which was quite tight and the waiters kept knocking a chair. Annoying. The chairs are uncomfortable - wooden with no cushions. Hard to sit on for a whole meal and in a premium restaurant. The waiter explained how the food could be ordered but we understood very little. Plus, half way through the meal he offered to take our coats. The starters were tasty and decent sized portions but the starters didn’t come together. We ordered sea bass for four people at a cost of £120. Unbelievable. This was very expensive for one fish. Plus, it was swimming in oil. The sides were extremely small and the twice cooked wedges we ordered were just chips. I found the service to be arrogant and patronising. Also, we had to chase for drinks many times. Plus, when the drinks came, he handed them to us and did not remove the wine glasses, which should be when no wine is ordered. As we left, having spent over 300 euros, not even a thank you or goodbye. In summary, I’d not go back because the experience felt arrogant, judgemental, and the prices were of a fine dining restaurant that was neither met by food quality or service. My phrase is, charge what you want, but the service and quality needs to match the cost. *** Updated 26-11-25 *** I completed the survey they emailed me on 05-10-25, and I requested a refund because the meal had been so poor. I had to chase for a reply 4 times. Then, I finally received a reply on 26-11-25 offering some appetisers and wine. We live in the UK and would not travel for that anyway. Poor. Overall, not only was the restaurant experience one of the worst I have ever had, but the communication and resolution was very poor too. I'd never go back, even if it was free. With so many great restaurants in Amsterdam, try anywhere else.

We’ve always enjoyed gathering with friends at Sagardi because of their exceptional food and warm atmosphere. Unfortunately, our last visit was quite disappointing. One of the orders was incorrect, but to their credit, the staff fixed it promptly and charged us the correct price for the intended dish. However, two of my friends ordered codfish, and while the product seemed fresh, it was not well cooked, which was unexpected given our previous experiences. After our meal, we ordered desserts and hoped to enjoy one last glass of wine with the cheesecake. To our surprise, the waiter—though very respectful—told us this was not possible because we could only stay for 2.5 hours. This policy was shocking to us, as we couldn’t find any mention of it on the website or in the reservation details. This left us feeling rushed and disappointed. Sadly, this experience made us reconsider leaving a good tip and whether we’ll choose Sagardi again in the future. If the goal is to become a “money machine” restaurant, then we’d rather spend our money elsewhere, where hospitality and flexibility are valued as much as the food.

We were greeted warmly on arrival and immediately loved the atmosphere. Julian looked after us and was fantastic knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great food and wine recommendations. We started with an amuse-bouche from the kitchen (chistorra), which was amazing. The meat was superb, the sourdough was delicious, and the wine was great. Service was attentive with great attention to detail. A really enjoyable experience! Great food, great wine list, and excellent service. Highly recommend.

Can definitely say this one tops Barcelona. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. For people that don't understand how it works here. You pay around £13.50 per 100g. You choose the weight of steak you want from the counter, and there's no steaks under 1kg so they are for sharing. Steak was cooked to perfection, mash was creamy. Great wine selection if your into that

As a Texan, I’m ashamed to say this is the best steak I’ve ever had. I have been to my share of steak houses all over Texas, from the coast to DFW to Lubbock and to Austin. And this was the best. Me and my husband had the aged premium matured beef and they grilled it over a coal fire. It was so delicious!! The fat was like butter and the flavor was amazing. It was a little pricey at $150 on the steak for us to split but, it was worth it! It was a very large steak and there were left overs. They had a welcoming knowledgable staff that helped us pick a wine and a side to go with our steak. Next time we are in Amsterdam, we will be back. Definitely try this place out if you’re looking for a delicious steak to have a food coma over :P

Simplicity in the best possible way! The turbot was absolutely delicious, and the steak was one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. Everything grilled to perfection. It may not be a cheap place to eat, but it's worth every Euro. Friendly service, cosy and informal atmosphere: I'll be back soon!

The meats and fish were outstanding. Sides were very good also. Only one positive constructive comment . The restaurant should have recommended more Basque specialties. Having visited the region on both sides of the French/Spanish region, more Basque foods would be nice.

A truly remarkable and memorable dining experience. We discovered Sag a Sagardi thru our hotel, the amazing Estherea. And certainly, were so pleased to do so. The seafood and meat forward menu was superb due to the grilling and simple prep. Every selection comes from their farm in Espana. The sides were also delicious with a full selection of farm to table items. In fact, a over ordered for the side dishes were large like the entree. Our main was a monk fish grilled to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Two people easily shared one entree. In addition, the service was impeccable. We had a full team supporting every element of the meal. With such grace. Overall, highly recommend. In a great area of charming restaurants, Sagardi is a stellar option.

We had dinner tonight. The meat was delicious, the wine good, but I didn't think the price/quality ratio was right. Furthermore, it only became clear what we were charged when we paid. The meat turned out to be €135. I have to say it was tasty but not so special that I would pay that again. It's a shame, and a tip anyway: tell us the price beforehand, because that didn't happen. In fact, the meat was more or less forced upon us, and there was little opportunity to choose anything else from the menu. It's a shame and a missed opportunity. We won't be back anytime soon.

Beautiful food and the service was first class

What an experience. The fact it is cooked over a open fire made it so much more special. As a South African we love to Braai and I felt right at home here.

The food was very good, and the staff were excellent. It's expensive, but the quality of the meat justifies the price.

The staff bent over backwards to look after my 90 year old grandmother. The food and wine were great. Highly recommend the red tuna, pan fried cod, cheesecake and Argentinian Malbec.

Simply amazing experience. I am basque, and I could really taste the original flavor of my country in the center of Amsterdam. The fish is delicious and the meat perfect. A home away from home. My fourth time coming here but yesterday was the absolute favourite! The food was outstanding but the service was just incredible!!! 12/10!!! Vincent, you are an absolute legend! It’s pricey but I couldn’t recommend it more.

We came to Sagardi based on a rec from a neighbor that lived in Amsterdam. The hostess and server really pushed their dry aged meat hard, but we wanted monkfish and reason for our visit. They sell meat and fish top based on weight they dictate the weight each night and it was either 1200 or 1600 grams. The price is 12eu at 1600 would make it 192eu. The weight of 1600 seemed huge and we were not that hungry. After seeing our hesitation, the server agreed to "allow" us to order 800 grams. We had monkfish, swiss chard side, bread and i insisted on tap water. They brought out 4 slices of bread with some tiny sausages and never explained to us that it was complimentary. I only found out it was complimentary when i overheard another table. These tiny sausages were super salty, chewy and flavorless. My water came in a refillable and tasted normal and i assumed it was tap water as i had requested. When the fish came, I knew immediately it was a racket with the weight. The majority of the weight was the huge bone that did NOT belong to our fish. I still held out hope for the taste of the fish. I was disappointed by the bland flavor of the fish and the only thing that saved it was the mediocre buttery sauce that it was drowning in. They put massive butter in the sauce to enhance the flavor but it was still flat. The swiss chard was bland. The 4 slices of bread was small and also flat. We had to ask for butter to enhance the flavor but it was unsalted. When i got the bill, they charged us $102 for the fish and claimed that it was 850 grams based on the weight. Total crap! The part that angered me the most was the 4eu charge for the water. When i brought this up to the waiter, he claimed it was not tap water, which was another lie. He made a big deal how he has to get someone to remove the $4 euros. I paid the bill and felt so scammed by this restaurant and do not trust them at all with their BS weight. Check out my supposed bone and fish and explain to me how i only got one side of the fish and the weight is 850 gram? Yeah right!! The restaurant was 1/2 empty so I guess they have to make their money on stupid tourists like us.

Radisson Blue helped with this suggestion and for that they offered us a party of 8 a welcome drink. We all chose the sparking wine, very nice. Ordering entrees of meat or fish is based off grams and the pieces are pre sliced so some meats will cost up to $100. Be cautious. We did not go that route and ordered different entrees like tuna, pork ribs and duck. All dishes were very good and decent portions. You can also order sides and most dishes came ala cart. They offered us a complimentary orders of local sausages which tasted like linguiça. Bread service is offered at a cost per person. Overall nice place to dine in a good part of Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful meal, perhaps the best we've ever had in Amsterdam. Delicious grilled turbot and truly the best steak of our life. The waiters were friendly and helpful in helping us choose!

Cod was so dry and hard, meat good quality not good cocked. And that’s the basics in Basque cider restaurants… Starters were good, cider was good but was way to expensive even if we are in Amsterdam.

I really like Sagardi and have been several times for special events over the last ~5 years. I do have to say though, the last visit today left me disappointed. The service was very friendly and good, so no complaints with that. The prices do seem to have increased substantially, and the quality is slightly less than I expected from previous visits. We ordered a very large cut to share with my partner and son (2200g), which was €290 only for the steak! I was expecting a decent amount of meat, what I got was 3-4 small slices per person (refer the photo). When I mentioned my disappointment to the waiter they did comp some free desserts which was appreciated. But overall I left with a feeling of disappointment. €530 for 3 people, and still leaving unsatisfied is not good! I honestly may not return, which is a shame.

The seabass was absolutely delicious and the highlight of the meal! The steak was tasty as well, though my steak knife wasn’t sharp and made squeaky noises when cutting, which made it a bit difficult to enjoy fully. The staff were wonderful — very friendly and attentive. One thing to note: the restroom is up a steep staircase, so it might be a little tricky, especially if you’ve had a few drinks.

We went for an important celebration, and the menu was perfect; high-quality ingredients and incredibly well prepared. The service was excellent; they helped us choose the right dishes. The only thing we found on the tasting menu was that the fish portion was a bit small, and we missed the potatoes with the meat.

Nice quality food and friendly service. Good atmosfeer and were very helpfunctie to give me a dogge bag to go for the leftovers which I enjoyed the day after. Definitly recommand for a taste monkfish. Only suggestie is to serve the monkfish with some creamier saus instead of just garlic butter.

The good - the food is not bad! Although very overpriced - have had much better and significantly cheaper steaks. The bad - the worst experience I've had; terrible service with an awful waiter who forgot things from the menu, ignored us and was deeply unhelpful. Strongly recommend avoiding, which is sad as we were excited to go. Update - complained and got a response back that showed they couldn't care less! Have attached response to show just how little this place cares (basically says sorry about how I feel - not that they did anything wrong, be great if you visited again but we are not doing anything about it!) - strongly recommend avoiding!

Don't eat fish there. Two of us ate some, we both got sick afterward, and the fish dishes themselves were flavorless. The sides were good, though, which was a shame.

We’ve been to Sagardi multiple times before and were happy, but this time was really bad. We waited for 10 minutes at the door for someone to greet us and take us to our table (we had a reservation). We wanted the Txuleton steak (which we had before) and were told that there are only two sizes available, 1100g and 1200g (odd, since previously the sizes were from 800g up and also could be cut to order if requested). We wanted something smaller so had to go for the tenderloin. The waiter didn’t even ask us how we wanted the steaks done, and when it arrived it was really dry and tough on the outside. One of the two sides we ordered was wrong, even though we repeated the order three times. Every drink we ordered had to be asked for twice because they kept forgetting, and there is no non-alcoholic drinks menu available, and instead you have to guess what they might have. They also bring bread to the table without asking and then charge for it. All in all, the service was terrible and the steaks not worth the €42pp.

High quality food and wines chosen and served with care. The veggies and salads are lovely and large. Service could be a bit faster- but they kindly comped our desserts without us asking. Its a local favorite of ours!

I have been there with my wife yesterday evening. The appetizers were nice and also the service was good, not perfect but good. Unfortunately it was not a good experience for the main course, the 1.2kg meat. Some parts were overly cooked, some were fine so the coocking was not homogeneous. Also, it was too salty (we had to literally scrape off the salt from the meat), very difficult to eat it. For 140 € steak this is not acceptable so I unfortunately cannot advice this place. Price and quality do not match.

We loved going to Sagardi Valencia for the pintxos and wanted to try the restaurant here. Everything was delicious, excellent service, and top-notch staff.

The food really was just not good. We had spare ribs and my girlfriend was getting sick after. The service was good and the ambiance OK. I expected more.

The place was spectacular, well-located, and very welcoming. The service was also perfect; they speak Spanish. The food, while good, didn't seem to reach the level of flavor we expected in each dish, but it was just right.

after multiple times asking and giving looks to the people inside we got finally some water, I told the waiter that we'dlike to have dinner here. we waited but no one came outside for like 15 minutes... me and my friend felt quite unsure so I went inside to check and then I got the menu after asking so many times.... I felt sick in the stomach after the whole experience so I asked for the bill after just water. We went to Lucius after this and I don't regret a thing spending over 190 euros on their delicious foods. Do better!!!

A bit disappointing. For the price you pay, I would have expected a better experience. Group of 6, and for about half of the things we ordered, we were told they no longer had them. I would have expected them to tell us before they took our orders, so we would have had a chance to make our choice with that information. Service was all over the place: 5 out of 6 received their starters at the beginning of, the 6th person received it at the same time as the main course. Also, 2 people got their main course/side about 10-15 minutes after everyone else had finished eating. It wasn’t that busy so it really seems like an organization issue.

Wij hadden voor dit restaurant gekozen omdat ze dry aged meat verkocht. Wij verkozen de dry aged premium en bestelden 3 kg hiervan omdat wij met zen 6sen waren bij de opname van onze bestelling vroegen we voor alle zekerheid hoeveel been is er aanwezig bij de 3 kg omdat we graag genoeg vlees hadden voor ons allemaal en wij graag zulk soort vlees eten ze vertelden ons 30% +- wij vonden dat oke dan hadden wij ongeveer 2100gr aan vlees wat een Voldoende zou moeten zijn. Tijdens het wachten van ons eten kwam de chef niet langs met het stuk vlees dat hij uitgekozen hadden -puntje toen kwam het vlees en zagen wij een enorm stuk been en een klein beetje vlees ik en mijn kompanen zijn er van overtuigd met 6 personen dat het stuk been Zeker 65% was goe voor zo een 1050 gram aan vlees +- wij hebben dit gemeld bij n vonden dat dit normaal was op het einde gingen we gaan afrekenen en vertelden Ze ons dat ze een korting van 10% gingen Geven omdat we (geen) gelijk hadden bon we kregen toen de rekening bij het controleren van de rekening stond op de factuur een extra van 6 flessen water van 500 ml terwijl wij geen water hadden Gedronken dan hadden ze ook nog het brood dat ze op voorhand op de tafel hadden gezet goed voor zo een 7 sneetjes ook op de factuur gezet +27 euro voor het brood wij en dan Hadden ze de 10% in mindering gebracht wij spraken hun hier over aan en begonnen met ons te discussiëren dat dit standaard is en dit en dat wij weigerden dit te betalen toen na veel discussiëren hebben wij dan toch ons gelijk gehaald en hebben ze de aanpassing gemaakt. Voor ons Maakt het niet uit wat de prijs is zolang dat deze maar correct is wij voelen ons hierdoor heel erg in de maling genomen door dit restaurant. Het restaurant zelf was wel zeker en vast ok het eten was ook lekker niets op aan te merken maar een correcte handeling was er zeker niet.

I stumbled upon Sargardi as I was wandering an awful, touristy street in Amsterdam. I arrived on the early side, and they’d quite possibly just opened. The restaurant was quiet and laid back, in opposition to the cartoon of restaurants on either side. Even now as I write this about 90 minutes after my arrival, the restaurant is busier but far more pleasant than the spectacles around. The service has been attentive, even once many more patrons arrived, and the cocktails, food and wine have been on point. That was the most delectable beef I’ve had in a while, and there were a plethora of fresh vegetables to complement. Overall a really lovely and surprising experience. I’ll definitely be back - with a second person so I can enjoy the tasting menu! Gluten free friends - fear not, much if the menu seemed GF to me and I had no trouble whatsoever communicating my allergy to the waiter. He even brought me gluten free bread (standard issue… a small but serviceable baguette in a wrapper marked gluten free) with my Basque sausage.

Sagardi in Amsterdam is an exceptional culinary experience. As in other cities and countries, Basque food is delicious and authentic. The service is unbeatable, and the preparation and presentation of the dishes are outstanding. As always, Sagardi does not disappoint. Highly recommended!

We saw the restaurant while we were walking and we are so glad that the staff managed to find us a table. We ordered clams in green sauce, baby squids, potato wedges, lettuce salad and as desserts cheesecake and strawberries. They also served complimentary small basque sausages. We ate a lot of bread as well with the (arbequina! if you know what it means!) olive oil. We would love to visit again to taste the txuleton meat dishes. The food here is not pretentious, but prepared with attention to detail. The source of the ingredients was very high quality too. Even the lettuce salad was amazing. The home made ice cream was made of latxa sheep milk. We didn’t have a reservation unfortunately, so we had to sit outside. I’m glad that they managed to find us a table. The inside of the restaurant has a quiet nice ambiance. So make a reservation in advance. The staff is very friendly with big smiles. They explained the details and also guided us to choose. From the sourdough bread which they make with 48 hours fermentation to the desserts, everything we tasted was phenomenal.

I come from Valencia, where the sagardi is amazing. But this is a complete rip-off. The pintxos were tasteless, lacking in charm, or anything. The txuleton was like reheated sabata. The service was slow and looked like they didn't want to be there. And to top it all off, the bathrooms smelled like sewage, really bad. You pay twice as much as in Spain and you leave feeling sick. Disgraceful. Never again. Plus, I thought I saw a rat, although I hope not.

Unacceptable Experience – I Do Not Recommend mouses inside of the restaurant I visited this restaurant and, while I was seated at my table enjoying my meal, I saw a mouse walking around near the dining area. Shocked, I asked the staff about it who, to their credit, were very polite and helpful. However, what they told me was even more concerning: they said this was “normal” in this environment. Looking around more carefully, I noticed discreetly placed mousetraps under seats and along the walls. The presence of rodents and traps in a place where food is being served is, in my opinion, absolutely unacceptable and clearly violates basic hygiene and professional standards. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Cleanliness and food safety should be non-negotiable in any dining establishment — and unfortunately, that was not the case here.

Sargadi in Amsterdam offers a great experience for lovers of good food and atmospheric locations. The food is delicious, especially the meat is excellent and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere inside is always special and cozy. They are a bit pricey, otherwise I would have given them 5 stars without a doubt. Definitely a place to come back!

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, especially for the grill, which seemed very authentic. The food, overall, was quite tasty, although I found the meat to be quite dry and oversalted. Otherwise, it was okay. What really soured the experience was the way I received from the grill lady. I approached her with curiosity and interest to ask her something about how they cooked, and her response was quite rude. She looked at me indifferently, as if looking down on me, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Also, I heard several shouts from the kitchen, and I don't know if it was from the grill lady or someone else, but I don't know; there was a bit of a bad atmosphere. It's a shame because the concept is interesting, but customer service is also important, I think quite a lot, and in this case, it wasn't appropriate. I also work front-of-house, and I don't treat customers that way. I don't think I'll go back.

We had reserved a table, and the restaurant was quite popular. It took almost half an hour before we could even order. The best beef in Amsterdam! And the spanish wine selectin is very broad and deep.

206 euros for a piece of meat of 1.6kg with a bone of 1.2kg ridiculous!!!! Had 5 pieces of meat pp with them 2nd. Really absurd !!!

The food is exceptional, especially the steaks. The atmosphere very pleasant.

Perfect dinner! The food was delicious , especially grilled aged meet and artichoke. Staff were friendly. My favorite place in Amsterdam. Will go again for sure.

⸻ The price-to-quality ratio of the starters is frankly outrageous. €28 for four small asparagus? You can get Limburg asparagus—five times the size and far superior in flavour—for €6 per kilo. The Sierra Cantabria wine at €48 felt like a joke, and the chistorra portion was tiny. That said, the meat was absolutely delicious and of high quality, and the service staff were very attentive and friendly. Still, I can’t recommend this place. The pricing strategy, portion sizes, and the overall approach to the starters seem designed to squeeze the customer. It just doesn’t feel right. €120 per person.

Friendly staff, nice Basque food, good quality. Pricey though. Music selection a bit busy.
