Dak rendang was deliciously flavored with deep, authentic spices. Unfortunately, the meat was a bit dry, which took away from the overall indulgence of the dish.The service is decent and feels a bit rushed. Reservations highly recommended

Lovely Indonesian experience. We walked in the restaurant without a reservation and even though the place was food, the accommodated us in the one available table. Our choice was rijstafel which they offered both regular and vegetarian. The food was delicious and flavourful. The portions are big so make sure you are hungry. 😋 Highly recommend when in Amsterdam.

Update Dec 2025: keep in mind the rice table must be ordered for everyone at the table. So if you have kids who are not big eaters or picky eaters, you must order a la carte for everyone. In our case 3 of us would have liked the rice tables and the two little children just a la carte items but we were forced to order a la carte for all which was not a complete experience as the rice tables are very good here. It gives you a wide overview of Indonesian cuisine and helps you decide what you want to get a la carte on another visit. The serving was substantial and more than enough to satisfy a hungry person! They have a good wine list and the montepluciano from Italy was strong enough to stand up to the rich flavors of the Indonesian cuisine. Exceptional and attentive service - you will be well taken care of. Tables are close together like most European restaurants so be mindful not to bump into others!

Terrible experience! The waitress was very impolite to customers, not cleaning the table, not serving snacks, not answering questions.. And then asked customers to ‘respect’ her! The food also tasted badly, with very small portion… Shame of Amsterdam! Please never go to this restaurant ever!

As a business traveler who dines out more than I eat at home, I value honesty and transparency above all else. Unfortunately, this restaurant failed on both counts. It felt as though we were treated poorly because we didn’t order a high-priced set menu (price per person). We ordered two a-la-carte dishes that should have included two bowls of rice, yet only one was served. When we questioned this, the staff claimed it was a "double portion," but a second bowl we ordered later was the exact same size. To make matters worse, they brought a third bowl we didn't ask for, and despite us returning it, they still included it on the final bill. It is not about the cost of a bowl of rice; it is about the lack of integrity. Diners should be aware before choosing to eat here.

Our experience at Sampurna was amazing! These guys take Indonesian food seriously! We ordered the Kuning Rijstafel for 2 of us; which is a large range of Indonesian dishes. Everything tasted amazing (the lamb satay especially) and serving sizes of each dish are actually decent. Would highly recommend trying the course if you want to experience a range of flavours and dishes.

Thoroughly recommend kuning rice tafel at Sampurna. It really was a great collection of dishes for those who like things spicy. Cucumber salad and mango salads needed to cool things down, the tofu and beef satay sapi was delicious..

Disappointing service and unwelcoming staff Unfortunately, my experience at Sampurna Restaurant in Amsterdam was very disappointing. The service was poor, and the staff came across as rude and unwelcoming throughout the visit. One example was when I was asked if I wanted anything to drink and said no because I had my own water. The staff then removed the glasses from the table and informed me that I was not allowed to drink my own water in the restaurant and would need to purchase drinks from them. This was only one instance of the overall attitude during the visit, and the repeated unfriendliness made the experience uncomfortable. Because of this, the visit was not enjoyable. There are many other restaurants in Amsterdam that offer better service and a more welcoming atmosphere. I would not recommend this place.

This restaurant requires a reservation, so it’s best to book in advance. The table layout, however, was quite awkward. Many two-person tables are placed in the middle of the dining area, which makes it difficult to move around comfortably. I was fortunate to be moved to a better table, but I would have been very disappointed having to sit in the center of the restaurant where constant foot traffic would have been disruptive. The food was decent but didn’t live up to the hype. We ordered the rijsttafel without a starter, and the portions were very large—almost too much to finish. The spread felt repetitive, with too many fried chicken dishes. The beef curry was overcooked and quite firm. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, as I’ve had much better Indonesian food at other restaurants. Full marks for the lovely service.

Fabulous Rijstaffel, rice table, but don’t order dessert! We waited 30 minutes at the end of the meal for that course. It was a busy night—but it seemed that their customers must order dessert. They should also have explained that one dessert, the fruit and sherbet, could be shared by 2-3 people.

First of all, we so much love indonesian food and indonesian people. The food was super, very tasty, fresh and truly one of the best Amsterdam. But the problem is that we felt it was a rip off. There is an issue in the menu. It says per table. The staff explained it is per table and we agreed. We weren't scammed, but we were over charged . It is the most expensive meal we had in Amsterdam. It is sad when people treat us like this only because we are not Europeans!

If you're looking to try Rijsttafel as a novice, this place is great. It's not a big space and many people came in with a reservation, but I dined alone as a walk in at 5pm. Dining later may need a reservation. I had the smallest rijsttafel order and it was a lot of food with good variety. Left full and happy.

What a wonderful discovery this Indonesian restaurant is! Be sure to make a reservation as it's very popular. Impeccable service, incredibly friendly, and of course, absolutely delicious. Just avoid the exotic fruit and ice cream dessert as they add a sort of chocolate topping. And definitely go for the "Little Spicy" option – it's fantastic!

The place provides authentic Indonesian food, lovely staff, I highly recommend the spring rolls and the noodles. Did not get the chance to order a lot but never the place without ordering the rolls! For us we might went early so it was quite and not crowded. At 5:30 PM.

A plate of shrimp cakes was served before the meal (but the shrimp flavor was very weak and the taste was so-so). The restaurant was very popular, so it is recommended to make a reservation in advance. We ordered the satay solo, which included 11 side dishes and 6 skewers of satay (three flavors). Some of the dishes were very spicy, and most of them were very salty. At first, we thought it was quite delicious, but towards the end, it tasted almost entirely like peanut sauce, which was a bit greasy.

Food is great ... Took some friends to experience Indonesian dishes outside New York without having to travel that far to Indonesia. They had a great time and impressed with the fried rice (nasi goreng) flavours. The only thing that very concerning is the service. The first server that served us was impolite but then two other servers took care of us and they were nice.

Sampurna was everything I expected and more. I've never tried Indonesian food before - what a great first impression! I ordered a lychee martini (strong but delicious), fish lumpia and tofu with balinese sauce. The lumpia was crunchy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, and served with a delicious peanut sauce. The entree was delicious too - my tofu was fried perfectly with a slightly spicy sauce. The service was incredible -- I felt well looked after and they were very helpful!

Our server was wonderful. We didn’t get her name. But she’s the Filipina who is quick on her feet and made excellent recommendations!

The food was too salty and the taste was mediocre, so much so that I had to keep drinking water to eat it. Although I was very hungry, I really couldn't eat anymore and left a lot. The service was also so-so.

The food was delicious, and I should know because my wife is of Indonesian descent and my mother-in-law was an excellent cook. Truly authentic Indonesian food here, generous portions, fast service, and reasonable prices too. So far, the best Indonesian restaurant we've found in Amsterdam. Highly recommended, but be aware: make a reservation! And don't walk past it, because you'll easily miss the entrance...

Loved the Indonesian experience and atmosphere of this place. Food was good and well served (it can be split by two, but I ate mine alone). I got a Rijsttafel and it was very flavorful. I fully recommend this dish if you are hungry and willing to try different meals at one spot.

We had dinner here near Dam Square during our stay in Amsterdam after hearing great things about Indonesian food in the city. The place itself was cozy and inviting and the food was delicious. However the portions were on the smaller side for the price and the staff didn’t feel particularly welcoming. Overall, a nice experience but a bit pricey for what you get.

We came here with a clean, halal approach. There are a variety of sauces, including hot, sweet, sesame, coconut, and soy. The chicken and red meats were very good. The saffron rice was good. The mango salad, corn, and beans, and the cucumber salad were all good. The Turkish palate might find it a bit similar to the old Ottoman dishes with sweet and sour meat. But there are much more intense flavors here. Go for the experience. These types of menus are offered in the market, and prices are per person. With a menu between 32 and 42 euros, you could expect to pay around 80 to 100 euros for two people, including drinks. The atmosphere can be crowded and loud. Those looking for a quieter atmosphere might want to eat outside. (Weather permitting.) The tables are numerous and very close together. The service is good. It's a visual feast. The location is best described as being in the flower market. Reservations are essential.

Fantastic restaurant, food and atmosphere. It is quite busy so do make a booking to avoid disappointment. Bali Bumbu was amazing, the Crème Brûlée was also amazing (it comes with flame and has crunchy coconut on top). Highly reccomend! The side dish (Sayur Lodeh) was so-so but it’s a side dish….

Based on a recommendation from friends and my own experience with Indonesian cuisine in the country, my expectations were high. However, the food at Sampurns was lightly seasoned, the tofu was dry, and overall, the quality was inadequate for the price. Finally, we were given the bill without asking—even though we still had drinks—and were told to pay immediately. Never again.

I went there without reservation and was waiting for the table and then came another American also without reservation. All of sudden they got directly a seat. I'm Indonesian itself. I did harshly complaint to one of the waiter (tall bald guy) and he said that that's not how it supposed to be. But then the ASIAN woman (I assumed she is the manager) said we have to wait for one and half hour. Is this how it is supposed to be? Praise to the young waiter but thumbs down for that manager. RUDE.

Absolutely fabulous food. So authentic ... The did not hold back on the flavour or spice. 🫶🏻 (Might not work for the white people taste buds though) Definitely the best Indonesian food I've eaten anywhere in the West.

Alcohol was great. The rice table food was not very authentic and felt like it was just hacked together dipped in mostly the same sweet soy sauce. Maybe it would feel authentic if you have never eaten proper Indonesian food? It was also truly expensive for what it was.

Indonesia in front of the floating flower market. Four of us dined at this cute and welcoming restaurant. With two full menus, a few hearty appetizers, and two desserts, our dinner was satisfying. They brought us a wide variety of dishes, enough to fill our stomachs with flavor and joy. High quality, reasonable price. Recommended!

Friday afternoon, four friends, 26 degrees Celsius, table outside on the small terrace, tourists passing by looking for flower bulbs. We started with delicious pangsit and vegetarian spring rolls, followed by the Batara rice table with lamb and chicken satay, rendang, spiced chicken, spicy shrimp, sajour lodeh, gado-gado, and blado. Delicious flavors, well-seasoned. Absolutely a great choice!

4 of us tried this location and couldn't be happier. HUGE amount of food (we did option 2) and some wine. Service was fantastic and we would highly recommend a visit!! Last night we went to "red" and honestly we regret it. Expensive and 0 flavor. We should have came here instead!

We left a bit disappointed overall. For the amount of money we paid, we expected more in terms of service and attention. The flavors themselves were nice, and we did enjoy the set menu for its full Indonesian experience. However, the braised beef was on the tougher side and the fried dumpling unfortunately arrived cold. On top of that, the Sauvignon Blanc was served at room temperature, and our meals only came out around 45 minutes after we ordered. Portion sizes were very generous in fact, a little too much food for one sitting. While the meal had authentic flavors, the service and execution didn’t quite match the price point

If you're into an Indonesian food, Netherland is just the heaven for that. And this place is one of the benefits of being good at getting to heaven. The place is really trendy, and it will be a really good place for a romantic dinner. Tbe food is also really awesome. You can see that they care about the food with the fact that they serve the food on a heating plate. One other thing that I really appreciate is while we wait for our food they serve us crackers with sauces that is really authentic spicy! what a treat! The food itself is really good, the texture of the meat is kinda wrong as it is too soft for a typical Indonesian food, but then again they might serve it this way for a high end restaurant. But one thing that I notice is that the food might be too much for one people. One meaty dish can be divided into 2 people. I hope everything good for them in the future. And the pandan cocktails is kinda interesting, but probably not for everyone.

Walked in and walked out: We had made reservations at Sampurna weeks in advance due to positive reviews. First of all, this place is not owned by an Indonesian so it’s authenticity is questionable. When we arrived, we waited patiently to be seated. Restaurant was very dimly lit and looked very seedy. It faces the flower market but since it was nighttime, the view was graffiti painted shutters in front of the restaurant. The wait staff gave us a blank stare as if he was obliging us by asking us to wait. We were finally shown a small table which was basically in the passageway between the larger tables. We had booked the rice table option to celebrate a 50th birthday from the USA so had no clue how all the food was going to fit. Still we said nothing and waited patiently to be given a menu. The wait staff was rushing around and broke some glass near us because the clearance of seating was so narrow. Finally the menu arrived and we were ready to order but no one came. We finally flagged down a waitress and she responded very rudely. At this point it felt that we would be paying them to be insulted. The last straw was when the head waiter pushed away the menu lying on our table and did not even apologize. We decided to walk out without eating and did a last minute reservation at Indrapura restaurant instead. A far better experience sitting in the Rembrandt square and enjoyed delicious Indonesian cuisine.

It's good but I wouldn't call it great. Tables are a little too close together and everything gets very crowded, especially if having rice table. Most of the food is really good, the fried chicken was not in that list, it was overcooked and had sharp pieces of bone in random places. Rice is great, cucumber salad was incredible, spicy beef was brilliant, veg dishes were excellent. Charging for kraan water isn't very nice either.

Great food but strange and uncomfortable service. We didn’t have a reservation and when we entered we were told we would need to pay cash for our meal which I didn’t mind. I went to the ATM across the street. However, throughout the meal we saw every other table paying by card. When I asked the waiter he gave me a long explanation about how they needed cash to make change, but I was paying in two €50 bills so I don’t see how that would help. We waited over 20 minutes after eating for our check and the waiter chastised us for not asking for our check sooner. “I told you to say when you were done”. Which he never said to us. The whole experience was one of the worst of our time in Amsterdam. I can’t help but feel like the server was pocketing the cash for himself and ripping off the restaurant and made us complicit in that. I would avoid this place for this kind of sketchy behavior and I hope the owners see this review.

Loved the service and experience here! First time we tried Rice Table and it was a really lovely adventure guided by attentive service. Its crowded inside, we were very lucky to be 2 people at a table for 4 plenty of room. We made reservations months ago so perhaps that helped?

Fantastic experience at Sampurna tonight! Great wine and ordered the #2 srlection out of 3 options for Rice table. (The #1 had various seafood options and I can't eat seafood ) It was great to try all the offerings! The sauces are spicy and delicious!

We had rijsttafel(Dutch for rice table) 🍡 🍚 🍲 assortment of dishes very similar to Indonesian Nasi padang, we opted for the outside seats so we can enjoy our meal while people watching in the relaxing streets of Amsterdam 🚲 🚲 🚲 really good food, wait time is reasonable because its served properly. Enjoyed our experience. 😍🙂👍

Booked myself a table for 1, was glad i did as they were busy on this Wednesday night. Took a little while to get seated and order taken, but considering that they were busy, it was fine. I had a solo sate, and a starter, it was delicious, some greate flavours and textures. The only downside side really was a group causing issues with the staff noisily complaining about something, it sounded like they were being difficult despite the staff trying to be calm and helpful. I felt bad for the staff on that occasion.

We were told by so many people to try the rice table here. The service isn't great...(we had a reservation, were sat, and then had no one come to our table for over 30 minutes and had to ask for someone to take our order). The place is tiny and tables are very close together. The food was pretty good. Nothing out of this world but I suppose it was fine for the price.

I could not recommend Sampurna enough. Incredible food for such a good price. Everything was incredibly fresh and well cooked. It was more than enough for two people. A must visit!!

The asian lady was very rude. She ignored us for 30 minutes. Then gave us a very small table. There was corner tables empty. When we asked she said we should have had a reservation and that she is sqeezing us in this is what we will get. We simply left without ordering...

The food is the highlight, but we were able to sit outside and just watch humanity go about their lives, variously walk or market shopping and other activity in the busy central area. We got there just as it opened, so the service and seating and just about everything was handled by one person alone (how did she manage! ), but we loved it. Almost all the other Indonesian restaurants were either on holiday or closed the days we were in Amsterdam, so I'm glad we were able to get our Indonesian food in, on our touristy things-to-do list. Love the food, can't go wrong with any menu item. We had chicken broth and a lamb and both were great!

The location is excellent, a bit cramped and dark inside, but quite atmospheric. The service is friendly, though they struggle to get their act together. There's a wait. This was my first experience with Indonesian cuisine, and it was a success. I'll definitely try it again. We tried the tasting set – a wonderful blend of flavors (based on coconut milk, peanuts, and sesame – my kind of thing). To drink, I had a Paloma (I have fond memories of Mexico), but it didn't work for me. I recommend the Indonesian Gin instead.

I’ve been going here every time I go to Amsterdam but this time it was very disappointing. We made reservations, but we had to wait at least 30 minutes before we even got seated. The hostess was kinda first, but then another waitress was very rude. She was an older Asian women, and was not kind at all, and even was snippy. She tried to give us an outdoor table that had a huge puddle underneath, and was very messy when we had made a reservation in advance, and there were lots of open tables indoors. The food seemed not fresh and usually it is very good at this time. It wasn’t at its best. Like I said, I’ve been here quite a few times and I definitely will try other rijstaffels for us as this time it was such a disappointment. The saving grace was that there was a younger waitress, who is very kind, very professional, and very personable some thing that the older waitress lacked. It’s quite a tourist Hunt but again I would try others before I would try this one again. They need to step it up.

This restaurant is the perfect choice when you've had European food for days and your Indonesian taste buds crave something local. So, I dropped by here. I tried the gado-gado and it was a great choice. It met my expectations and satisfied my longing for Indonesian cuisine. The staff were also very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant to those who miss Indonesian food or want to try it. A perfect stop to have lunch after exploring the city. In front of the restaurant is also a perfect place to enjoy the flower market.

The food is very good, it's worth going there. On the other hand, the price of water is exorbitant (more than 7 euros for 1.5l of san pe). And the quantity of rice is limited (we asked for an extra portion which was charged to us).

This was my first time trying Indonesian food and I really liked it. We weren't very hungry so we ordered SATE SOLO. It was delicious. We went without a reservation and the restaurant was crowded. I would like to thank the waiter RAFI who provided us with a table and served us wonderfully.

A very nice little Indonesian restaurant right next to the floating flower market in the Single Gracht canal. We had a reservation and got a nice table for four near the entrance. Since many guests without reservations had to leave, I highly recommend this one. We had Indonesian rice table, and it wasn't a problem that we ordered one with meat for three people and one without. The dishes were served in different-sized bowls, so ordering them was no problem. If you've never had Indonesian food before, you might be surprised by the different spices and textures of the dishes. We enjoyed it very much, but it definitely could have been a bit spicier. Therefore, one point deducted. The reservation is valid for two hours, which is sufficient. However, if you'd like to stay longer, please let us know in advance.

Insane, absolutely transformative experience. I have never had Indonesian food before and this was an incredible first experience. The three sates were expensive but genuinely so delicious in a way that I hadn’t experienced before. Waitress was lovely. The only downside is that it is a bit expensive but you pay for quality. Yesterdays rendang was dry, and too hard/chewy. Otherwise food was tasteful. We had the kuning rice table. Service wise: once you enter as a customer it is first assumed you are a member of public searching for a restroom, which they do not allow. Not a warm welcome at all for actual customers. Service at the table is okay, though immediately after the bill was presented we were asked to leave, with the waiter not even leaving the table-side urging for us to finish our drinks. They needed the table for other customers.

We went the with high expectation but were really disappointed. We have had Indonesian food in Bali and also in restaurants in U.S., and the food at this place is so much less flavorful and lack any character. We had the rice table and friend cod, and we didn't really like any one of the dish. They are heavy in sauce but short on flavor, which is a bad combination. The service was ok. They tried to be friendly but feel lack of warmth and hospitality.

While the menu at the restaurant and the one on Google maps clearly states that the price of the rice plate is PER TABLE after eating we were assured by two separate waiters that the price is PER PERSON, thus we spent twice the amount we planned to. The food was good overall, but please just be clear and direct about the pricing. Otherwise you are just creating a tourist trap.

We had the Kunig rijsttafel (rice table) for two people. Very varied and delicious, generous portions—more than we could finish. Highly recommended!

Had a great meal with friends. They had suggested it and we were able to get a reservation. It was a short walk from our hotel on the Singel, just past the tulip market. It was a lovely meal with so many different dishes. The price was incredibly reasonable. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a nice family style Indonesian dinner.

Over rated. Pricy menu, not worth the money. Most items are set menu. Food itself is not bad.

We really enjoy Indonesian food in our city. When we were in Amsterdam, we found an Indonesian restaurant there. Four of us ate there. We ordered beef and chicken, among other dishes. In short, we've rarely eaten such poorly cooked and fatty meat. I found the price of €6.60 for a 0.33-liter Amsterdam beer outrageous. The walk to the restroom still smelled strongly of urine. Once, never again. We absolutely cannot recommend it.

The experience was great, we got the first rice table and I can tell you, it was delicious. We tried a lot of different dishes and each of them was mind blowing. The staff was really nice and helpful. I would recommend to anyone who wants to try Indonesian cuisine. The atmosphere is cozy, the local is small but the space is well developed. The way you are served the food and just eating it is a separate experience. The prices were quite high but adequate to the quality, plus it is placed in the center of Amsterdam. I loved it and will definitely come back next time I’m in Amsterdam.

The indonesian old lady was super unfriendly. We stood at the door for almost 10 mins and she just ignored us. As we sat down, she said that we can only stay for 45 mins without reservation, which is ok. Then i was asking something about the menu, and she literally said „you should have read the menu first“ and just left. How rude! But the old tall man was quite friendly. The food was not that good and pricey. I have been to so many indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam and they had way better taste and price. Will never come back to this restaurant.

This restaurant doesn't deserve a single star. The old lady who served us was incredibly unfriendly. She seemed really annoyed, especially at the reception. She didn't welcome us; she just left us standing at the entrance, and after a while, she gave us a seat. The food was so-so. If you're in Amsterdam, there are hundreds of Indonesian restaurants that taste much better and are cheaper than this one.

I order "ketoprak" where the key of this food is in the on the peanut sauce but there is no peanut sauce at all only kecap. Also the service is really not friendly. Only good in ambience.

I went eager to try the Indonesian food, which is so deeply rooted in the country. We ordered the Riffstafel—I'm sure I spelled it wrong—which is nothing more than a tasting of dishes to give you a better idea of this type of cuisine. Chicken, beef, shrimp, and lots and lots of vegetables. 37 euros per person without drinks or dessert.
