Our first stop on every trip . Cosy, friendly and steeped in history ( and if a TV buff , the setting for the new Van Der Valk's " unofficial " office ). Highly recommend the Schnitzel !

Small bar. The food is delicious. The meatball and Dutch sausage sandwich were especially delicious. And of course, I recommend the Tropist beer (on tap!!! – a rarity these days). Very friendly service.

Revisited this bar exactly one year after I had been there last, went there 3 times this holiday and nothing had changed, it was still as amazing, same great staff etc. and got to see the kitty from Another Forever again.

A super cozy café-restaurant, had a drink today and a delicious meal. Hostess Karin was a wonderful chatterbox. At the end, she suggested an affogato, as she called it, "teering," which was delicious. She was right. Highly recommended. Regards, Marco.

we arrived at 11am and we entered because on google said it was opened starting from 10am and the guy who is working there started yelling saying “we closed the door because we are close, get out”. guess what? there were busy tables with people drinking coffee.

For years, the place to read Het Parool with a Heineken and a Korenwijn! And a delicious grilled cheese sandwich... For decades, my favorite place next to Café Welling.

Great experience! The onion soup was absolutely fantastic, rich, flavorful, and one of the best we’ve ever had. We ordered the steak, which is a house specialty. Although no one asked how we wanted it cooked, it still came out very tasty and well-prepared, with an incredible sauce that really made the dish stand out. We also tried a sandwich, which was solid and delicious. Perfect for a lighter lunch. With it, we had Amstel beer, nothing fancy, but a nice match for the meal. The biggest surprise was the apple pie. Warn, fragrant, with juicy apples and a perfectly crisp crust. A perfect way to end the meal. The service was great. Our waiter was friendly, efficient, and confident. The restaurant has the feel of a classic place with tradition and quality at its core. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a good meal in the center of Amsterdam without unnecessary fuss.

We went there for lunch, ordered the salmon and the steak. EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!! The prices are arbitrary; there are things that aren't listed on the menu so they can charge you whatever they want. My steak was VERY HARD, almost inedible. Thank goodness my daughter's salmon was good, but the proportions were tiny. The 25cl mini bottles cost €4.50 each. €60, WHAT A JOKE!!! Please don't go there, save your money. They force you to pay in cash, for some reason. At least the waitress was nice.

Terrific experience with helpful proprietor. We had the croquet and meatball served on top of bread open faced. The room is dark and soulful. The only other people in the place were for older gentlemen playing cards in a corner table. Regulars for sure. Highly recommended.

Could not recommend this place more. The mayonnaise, made in-house, is so delicious I couldn’t forget it. And having come back, it’s even better than I remembered. I had steak, served with a lot of really nice fries (with the amazing mayo) and salad, and a carafe of red wine. Everything absolutely delicious. It’s also an old old place, 1900ish, with loads of history. The journalists used to hang out here and from what I see, the older ones still do. There are books and papers to read if you’re dining alone. The prices are great, staff are lovely and it’s far too quiet for touch a treasure.

Worst service I’ve ever received. Only takes cash but won’t tell you and then will get mad at you and tell you to use the card machine by yourself because “ you can do it yourself.”

Mientras que hubo un ligero hipo en que se abrió a las 12 : 00 , y llegamos temprano, fue una experiencia maravillosa. Nos informaron que tenía 120 años. Los hermosos muebles de madera y revestimientos eran muy acogedores. La comida era deliciosa, el servicio genial. Recomendaría encarecidamente una visita, incluso solo una bebida, y si eres fan de la serie de televisión Van Der Valk, realmente es una necesidad.

Beefsteak is awesome. Super nice employees! Back for round 2 Beef Steak Scheltema. Onions mushrooms and a slightly sweet gravy. Awesome cook to a slightly under medium. Beef steak: perfect medium with a more savory gravy. Fries: to die for with the house mayo (seasoned like a light ranch flavor) Salad with a varied list of extras like olives, cucumber, tomato, pickle and onion)

Wish I could tell you about the food here, but the proprietor had zero interest in offering a menu. (He was holding two in his hands, but dropped them off in a big stack instead of, you know, offering them to his guests.) Gave up and left after a few more minutes of inattention.

The cafe is nice and prices are in the right range for Amsterdam. We just had snacks on top of the beer, so I can’t comment on the lunch/dinner options, but both the bitterballen and the cheese fingers were good. Recommended.

We went here because we are Van De Valk fans at it was great.

First meal in Amsterdam and some of its typical dishes, croquette, sausage and bitterballen. In general, everything is very good, coming from a country where we give a lot of importance to gastronomy, it would undoubtedly be a restaurant that I would return to if I were here. In addition, the service is very attentive and friendly, oh and he speaks some Spanish! But without a doubt the dessert, the best apple pie I have eaten to date, that is not apple pie, it is pie apple. We loved it and it was a very good price for how big it was.

One of the best soups I have ever had! Think it was their special of the day, Onion soup! I was freezing and just wanted a quiet place in the city to have a quick bite. The service was excellent and very cozy! Would highly recommended checking them out if you’re ever in the area!

Beautiful little traditional bar, which used to be popular amongst journalists back in the day and was used heavily in the new Van der Valk TV series. The staff are super friendly the food is excellent, prices also are excellent and I had the cheapest BUT most satisfying meal a thick pea and meat soup known as SNERT, can't recommend this place enough.

Very welcoming place, very friendly and approachable manager. She advised us on what to order, an excellent Stamppot (smoked sausage on mashed potatoes and sauerkraut topped with gravy. Everything arrived quickly and was very good. Good draft beer. Highly recommended. Adorable house kitty in the cafe.

It is said that this is a restaurant that former manager Hiddink, a Korean hero, often visited. The steak was delicious and the beer was good as well. The price is reasonable. The owner and staff were friendly and nice~

Me dejé caer en este tradicional “café marrón” para una copa rápida, ya que estaba muy cerca de nuestro hotel. Estaba bastante ocupado con una mezcla de lugareños y turistas, así que la camarera preguntó si nos importaría compartir una mesa con otro cliente. Como solo estábamos planeando quedarnos para una copa rápida, dijimos que esto estaría bien. Pedimos un par de cervezas pequeñas y echamos un vistazo al menú para ver cuáles eran las opciones de comida. Una mesa quedó libre, así que decidimos pedir una selección de artículos del menú de aperitivos. La salchicha holandesa, que era como un salami suave y servida cruda no era del gusto de mi pareja, pero las albóndigas estaban tan deliciosas que pedimos una segunda porción. Seis cervezas pequeñas y una selección de aperitivos llegaron a poco menos de 50 €. Encantador ambiente auténtico, gran selección de cervezas y buenas opciones de comida.

Non hanno accettato il pagamento con carta di credito e hanno preteso che pagassimo cash senza nemmeno rilasciare una ricevuta fiscale ufficiale. Pessima esperienza

Terrible restaurant. The three women who run it shout and treat customers badly. Absolutely not recommended. Not to mention a cat they keep on the table... Too bad it's not possible to publish without giving stars.

Estábamos en la ciudad con amigos y queríamos un café tradicional y no alguna trampa turística hábil. ¡Este lugar encaja con el brief! Bonito café de tamaño, buen menú con un montón de opciones. Comida abundante, comimos unas tortillas y nos llenaron el resto del día. Lo recomendaría encarecidamente como un brunch. Ambiente agradable, gente amable y la ventaja de un gato que se relaja en la esquina. Old School seguro. Asegúrate de tener dinero en efectivo, ya que realmente es el pago preferido aquí y estoy seguro de que ayuda a estos lugares tradicionales a seguir adelante.

The place may seem typical and nice. We went in and simply had drinks, a soft drink and tea. It took them a while to bring these two trivial things. There is a cat (apparently a little old, poor thing) wandering around the place. I love them and it's delicious, you can't see it or hear it, but they should warn you at the entrance, especially for allergy sufferers or pregnant women with a risk of toxoplasmosis! The employees/owners of the place were the worst thing: they bring us the drinks and after a few minutes they stop by and place a coupon on the table without saying anything. I understood it was a reservation but I thought it was for the evening, since the owners didn't tell us anything. At a certain point an employee arrives and tells us that we had to leave, out of the blue....really rude and not caring about the customer. What's more, they did nothing but shout from one side of the room to the other, with very few customers. At a certain point, one of them sits at the table next to us, takes off his shoes, leaving his socks on, and changes them in the dining room, in front of the customers. Truly the squalor and the lack of care on the part of the staff towards customers... meh

Fantastic place, a real authentic treat. We stopped in for lunch and had the most delicious steaks. Be patient because it can get busy, but they will get round to you. Also cash is king 😉

Don’t be fooled by the appearance of a simple pub: this restaurant offers top-quality cuisine. The dishes are prepared fresh, so there might be a bit of a wait, but I assure you it’s worth it. The prices are very reasonable for the area, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I tried the pepper-steak, and it was among the best I’ve ever tasted, only surpassed by what I had in Germany. Truly, compliments to the chef and the entire team!

Loved the foods and the place! They offered breakfast and lunch as well but I came for dinner. The foods were absolutely smashing, good onion stew, steak cooked perfectly to my liking, apple-tart with ice cream was a wonderful finish to a hearty meal. Portion just about right and kept me full until late into the next morning. Old-style cozy warm place, friendly staffs and speedy services. Nice location in the city centre and has good view of the street. The first day i did not meet the boss of the house (Antonio the cat) but the second day i came at dinner, Antonio was at the front of the house, greeting and welcoming the guest! Update: the foods, the service and Antonio the boss kept me coming for the 3rd time the next day. Met the cat again, ordered different dishes and they tasted exceptional as well. Really recommended! Be aware that I went alone and always eat almost a full course including a starter, main and dessert plus a drink so its ranges between 30-40€ and I think its a great price for such a hearty meal.

We stopped here because we wanted to eat dinner. The guy took our drink order and never came back. They completely ignored us the whole time. I finally got tired of waiting and got up to leave.
