Small Talk in Museumkwartier

Really nice service, for a first time someone is actually kind and professional since I am in the Netherlands…the place seems as it has history and the food was very delicious without being overpriced! The only downside is that every time someone closes the door the whole place is shaking🤷‍♀️

Looks divine from the outside, but when we got in there the waiter was incredibly rude and condescending. the pancakes were undercooked, greasy and the chocolate spread was mediocre at best. #notaslay the hot chocolate, also mediocre at best. the earl grey also mediocre at best. Do not come here unless you enjoy awful customer service

Food was excellent tasty and reasonably priced. I noticed that almost all of the customers were older locals, that tells you something. I would suggest the wiener schnitzel or the french onion soup.

The cafe is very suitable for breakfast or a snack for lunch, the waitresses are very nice.

DONT EVER GO! Someone stole my bag in this restaurant. I was anxious and all the workers and the owner told me there’s nothing to do with 0 care, it was like a very normal thing for them didn’t even pay attention???? They don’t even have cameras inside or outside! It’s a place in the middle of Amsterdam. How can you not? If you wanna get rob yes please go but if you wanna sit and eat in peace never NEVER GO.

The sandwiches and soup are fairly simple and slightly out of the price-quality range, but you are on the museum square. Friendly service and owner.

I'm a traveler from Stockholm, and my recommendation to all of you is to try homemade apple pie with Irish coffee. It will take you to 18th-century feelings on Edgar Allan Poe.

Unfriendly service. We were denied service because not everyone in our family placed an order. According to the restaurant’s rules, they refuse to serve customers if someone doesn’t order. No i understand why their restaurant is empty. Keep it up👌

Cozy cafe with tasty sandwiches for a reasonable price.

The owner is rude, upon entering the premise we were rudely addressed that she hasn't enough staff (the entire upper floor was empty and she had just accomodated a couple there) and that we had to go away. Madam, when you do this job courtesy should be part of your skill set. You can't behave like this only because you are in a prime location.

It wasn't time. Table for 2, in the conservatory. Got the menu... after that, the staff didn't pay attention to us anymore. All guests after us were served. It all seemed very messy. We got up and had a lovely meal at Bodega Keyzer. There, top service...👎👎😫

We just tried to get a seat at this cafe which claims to have 50 seats upstairs. We walked up the stairs to find a room with almost all empty tables, only a couple sitting. We were about to sit down, when one of the waiters (we assume the manager) who had run up the stairs yelled “no no no no” at us and proceeded to say that “only they” could sit, pointing at the couple at the table, because she didn’t have enough waiters. To be turned down as a customer at a place that’s half empty, especially when done with such manners, is honestly quite shocking. I am also heavily pregnant and it’s raining outside. Some people should really not work in hospitality.

Really lovely staff, food was delicious and came quickly. Especially nice cappuccinos! Very sweet and patient with the kids too.

This was a really quick visit just to grab a hot drink and a slice of apple pie, before heading to our next museum. We were seated by the window and told there was only 25 minutes until closing (we weren’t in the full restaurant section) - the staff made that 25 minutes count, being really attentive, friendly, and warm. Very happy with the service and the pie was DELICIOUS! ☺️

Horrible and rude service. We wanted to come here for a coffee today but we were met with hostility from the waitress. Firstly we tried to order at the bar; and she spoke to us in a snarky and rude manner telling us to sit down to take our order down. Then, we said we were going to sit outfit (there were tables, cutlery, etc…), (it was not raining today) and we were again, spoken to in such a rude manner by the waitress. The interaction was so rude and cold that we walked out and didn’t bother ordering. We have been here around twice before this experience. We will never come again.

Traditional (Dutch/French) dishes, served quickly and friendly. The clientele is a good mix of local and tourists. No 'hip' interior or something like that. and even/especially that is fun.

Had a solo breakfast here on my last day in Amsterdam. Was close to my hotel and museum, and read the reviews. The waitresses are so friendly and welcoming. There is alot of seating and nice view of the street. There was currently construction outside the restaurant might look “closed” but it isn’t. Had the Dutch pancakes with banana. It was delicious! The bananas were literally baked into the pancakes and had a nice caramelization. Syrup (stroop) and powdered sugar were condiments so you got to add how much you wanted. I went in the late morning and alot of people were coming in. Seems like a place locals go to as well.

Very nice cozy little coffee! We ate soup and drank cocoa here, which was delicious and at a fair price. The tomato soup tasted a bit like ready-made soup and was very, very salty, so a small star deduction but the onion soup was great! But it still tasted good, it just wasn't perfect for my taste, which is why I can't give it 5 stars :)

BBB It is a restaurant in the Museum Zone that allows you to have breakfast or lunch, it has a very good view and makes you feel very comfortable, we had a rainy day and it was ideal to cover us from the cold.

Staff is unfriendly, and I won't be going back.

For years it has been a nice place where you can stay comfortably and the menu is neatly served at a fair price. Great chefs who can make excellent food! Furthermore, you don't have to wait long for the delicious meal

It was a nice place to have decent food. We ordered beef stew and chicken breast, and both were very delicious. It was busy at the time we had lunch there hence didn't get a proper table but whi cares when the food is tasty3

The man who was working on September 5. At time 9.20 am was rude like never seen before... Asked for a water to the espresso it's common in my country he mourned really loud and was so unfriendly!!

Worst cappuccino of my life. The lady was polite and quick with our order but she has no idea how to make a cappuccino. I paid for two cappuccinos and they were so bad that i had to throw them away after first sip. I would suggest to either take a Barista course or hire someone who knows how to make coffee. Waste of money. The milk was too hot and she didn’t bother to froth the milk properly. Too little milk. It just tastes like motor oil.

Fint belägen restaurang med god mat. Kan varmt rekommendera pannkakorna med äpple. Servicen var bra, personalen trevlig. Jag åt en macka och det var inget speciellt i sig, men generella upplevelsen var god.

Preciosa decoración y buena comida. Desafortunadamente nuestra experiencia con el personal no fue tan buena. Eran bruscos, impacientes y condescendientes. ¡Y cobraron por agua caliente extra para mi té! La mezquindad en la hospitalidad es un desenlace.

I stopped to eat here solo five years ago when I first moved here. Recently I took two friends here as part of their day trip to the city and country. It was a great way to let them sample a bit of Dutch cuisine but also in a great restaurant with excellent staff and atmosphere too. It did not disappoint. Highly recommend this place, solo or with company!

Pancakes are nice but expensive (12 Euro with ice cream and whipped cream), omelette cooked too much although I asked for underdone, it comes with a tired small salad and white plain bread. Staff are nice and welcoming.

Lovely food with great service. Our group of 4 stopped here for lunch - we had ham and sausage rolls, french soup, fried egg and bacon and chicken soup. The soups were lovely - so much so that the one who had the French soup said it was the nicest he had tasted. The staff were very helpful and able to accommodate allergies. There was a small mishap with the dressing on the salad which was egg based however they quickly swapped this for a freshly made salad. Good stop when visiting the museums.

Orange juice was so small that I drank it in one gulp. They forgot about the glass of water we ordered.

Fries were alright, service was friendly. The ice in my glass had a little worm in it, and it looked off. I dont think the ice was sterile, keep an eye out on your glasses! Waiter was helpful with the situation

Visited for breakfast on the 7th of May. Had the scrambled egg with toast, orange juice and coffee deal. Which was all perfect! (Small coffee but can't complain otherwise) Outdoor seating was great. Very unique building, would definitely recommend and will definitely return!

Nice place but quite rude interacting from the male waiter, while the waitress was nice. Rhe food is quite overpriced... my sandwich was basically bread with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on it.

Loved this place! Very nice location near our hotel, museum and bus stops. Staff is lovely. I really enjoyed my omelette and fresh orange juice Menu is various, I thought everyone will find something for them : my sister is vegetarian and boyfriend is meat lover and this place is wonderful compromise

We went at 4-30 pm - not a busy time, many empty tables. We were greeted at the door by a staff member stating if we don't order food, we are not allowed in. Was quite rude, but since we had a guest and wanted to eat anyway, we went in. After our order was served, we were told we had to vacate our table by 6pm. Notably, NO other customers were told about either the food order rule, or the time rule - we noted this especially. All I can conclude is that the waiter is either racist or had a really bad day - I don't really care which - but clearly this restaurant is not one where patrons are encouraged to make 'Small Talk'. Visit at your peril, is my advice - there are many others around. In 11 days in Netherlands, this was our only remotely poor experience. Everyone else we met was super polite and friendly.

Tosca was a fantastic host! Helped me charge my phone, gave me directions and generally a great atmosphere! Food was standard but nice.

The atmosphere is very nice, a good view for lunch, dinner or just having a cup of coffee or beer if you prefer, everything is very pleasant and the food is very good.

I had delicious French onion soup here with a nice beer from Texelse. It was wonderful, thank you dear people. Especially Janne (don't remember your name, sorry) and Guus are great! And the chef too, thank you for this experience! ❤️

Old-fashioned, pleasant Amsterdam waiter, normal Dutch service, also a normal menu and prices. Schnitzel was mega. Actually, I thought everything was fine. A restaurant in the city without any fuss. You don't have to go here for Quinoa salad.

We were not welcomed upon our arrival. Instead were rudely prompted to sit. Waited a long time for the waitress to check with us then a long time to take our orders. Not asked if we need water or anything to drink. The food was ready fast but lasagna was cold as if it was out of the fridge and microwaved for a few seconds. The steak was more like boiled beef or something and didn't taste that good. Again cold. Only the fries was ok. I wanted to raise concern but the waitress never showed up again a single time to ask if we needed anything. They obviously cared about local customers spending a lot of time talking to them while completely ignoring us. We wanted to order dessert as well but the waitress never checked with us and we decided to not waste anymore money there. Waited 10 min or so to understand we need to pay by the cashier. I had such a bad experience and now think is this the case in all restaurants in the Netherlands and if this is the hospitality they offer to all foreigners? Anyway avoid this place as the food is terrible and the service is even worse. Save your money and go somewhere else.

The cafe we visited had a very racist atmosphere. We were there with a toddler during a rainstorm, and since the indoor seating was full, we opted for outdoor seating. We asked the waitress if they could extend the outdoor shelter, which was clearly extendable, but they claimed it wasn't possible. Believing them, our table ended up soaked. Later, after the rain stopped, we saw the shelter fully extended. It's important to be kind to everyone; there's no excuse for racism. Treating people poorly based on their race is uncultured. Remember, what goes around comes around. It's better to be kind; after all, we're just here to travel and spend money at your establishment. It's incredibly rude and disrespectful to treat customers this way.

The place is nice, a little small, but there is a second floor. I think the food is very good, especially the onion soup and the apple pie. The attention is good, however we had to wait almost 25 minutes to be served, however it was made up for by the taste of the food.

A favorite little lunch/coffee/drink place I like to bring friends visiting from out of town. They have a great French onion soup and Erwten Soup when it’s on the menu. Right by the Museumplein so a perfect place to stop after a day at the museum!

Great little restaraunt right on the corner with good food. I had Lasagna and it was a little spicy. Husband had weinersnitzel and it was a very large portion. The best part was the apple pie we shared.

I like it because it’s close to the Van Gogh Museum and the National Art Museum. The exterior is nice, and the interior is also nice. I didn't expect much from the food, but the pancakes were really delicious, and the kids also said the schnitzel style and Bolognese pasta were delicious and it was worth eating. The cappuccino was also delicious.

Were here for breakfast. Very nice operator, the taste was super delicious and the rooms were very nice. Prices for Amsterdam are extremely good and reasonable.

The food was very tasty, we ate pannenkoeken, an interesting combination of flavors. So sweet and salty. If there is a chance, I will come back here someday to try the onion soup. My friends were, as they say, "decent". Hot chocolate is ok, but for me it's more like chocolate. Such a family atmosphere...

My favorite place in Amsterdam! Obviously it is not the case to choose Italian dishes, which would not satisfy the Italian on holiday in search of "pasta and pizza like at home", therefore, avoiding local dishes, you can enjoy an excellent onion soup, for example, which in my opinion it is truly delicious, one of the best I have ever tried.....or other local specialities, in a truly characteristic, intimate and very pleasant environment. Good service and prices in line with the city average. Absolutely recommended!

Absolutely horrible service. We waited for our food for more than 40 minutes after ordering while during that time other customers who arrived later than us had their food and left already. There’s no reason to be rude towards tourists who pay the major amount of the bills. The apple pie was tasty, filled with apples and cinnamon and went well with ice cream.

A horrible welcome that just made us want to leave and never come back. Politeness and respect are the basics of life in society. A rude person like the blonde lady at reception has no business behind a bar.

It's not bad to get by if you don't know where to go and you're very hungry... Quite expensive for the food that it is and the dishes that are... Normal treatment although it should be a little more pleasant for tourists.

Me and my Partner got food poisioning Form the apple tarte. Its the only food we both ate yesterday so its quite obvious. The Rest of the Dinner was horrendous aswell. The Steak was supposed to Be medium but was ice cold and completly raw. After i asked if i could get it cooked a bit more (very nicely), i got it back completly smashed in rage as thin as carpaccio but still as raw as before. Still had to pay for everything which is the cherry on top. Least enjoyable expirience in years

Nice place to have a drink. I would definitely come back there to try the breakfast. However, the dinner menu has little to offer for vegetarians. Service is very friendly and fast.

I ordered an omelette, they brought me pancakes. I sent it back, then they brought me fried eggs on bread. I sent it back. Then they finally brought an omelette that was undercooked. Waitress seemed to understand that the food was wrong and walked away laughing. Would not visit again nor recommend.
