Great corner for people watching but that's where the good remarks end. Very expensive apple pie that looked great, but was very dry and not so tasty. Coffee was 4/10, far too warm and had coffee grounds in it; in addition the service was terrible. We had a waitress who tried to walk away before we had even finished our order and was very cold.

The waiter was unbelievably rude. We were sitting there for almost half hour without service. We I went to check he yelled at me. Worst experience on our trip.

As a tourist i walked nearby the museum quarter and accidentally came across this restaurant. I was so hungry craving to eat meat food. I was welcomed with a very polite staff . The service was fast and i got my order literally in a few minutes. That was absolutely delicious. I do recommend this place especially if you in a museum district cause The Van Gogh museum is so close to the restaurant.

A nice café in a great location. The interior was also beautiful. The only minor downside was that, in my opinion, they should pay a bit more attention to the cleaning.

Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. As soon as we entered the restaurant, the waitress was rude and unwelcoming. Her attitude made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome from the very beginning. We decided not to stay because of the way we were treated. Customer service is just as important as the food, and sadly this experience did not meet even basic standards of hospitality.

Expensive food for what it is. Average quality. €6 extra for fries with the burger is a bit steep, but the steak was good and well-seasoned. Quick and friendly service. The view from the top is a plus.

I recently visited this restaurant with three friends and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Although we were seated outside and had already placed our order, we were abruptly asked to leave by a member of staff because we had only ordered two drinks and she didn’t think we deserved to take up four seats in the restaurant. The manner in which this was communicated felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. This interaction left a negative impression on our group, and as a result, I would not return to this establishment. Based on our experience, I would not recommend it to others if you are looking for a nice restaurant in the centre.

Well located near the museum grounds. It has the feel of an old bistro, which isn't unpleasant. However, it's very expensive for what you get on your plate. It's more like reheated, mass-produced food. The filet mignon is best avoided (it's not actually filet mignon). The peanut sauce in the satay is good, but the chicken leaves much to be desired. We were also rushed to finish eating by 7 pm (our food arrived at 6:20 pm). The value for money is simply not there.

I got food poisoning from the French Onion Soup and have thrown up multiple times today. 0/5 stars: I would not recommend. Also, our waiter became very rude when we asked for to-go boxes.

Very unfriendly waiter. No greeting upon entry, and when I asked if they had non-alcoholic beer on tap, he laughed at me and said I couldn't find it anywhere in the world, while their neighbor did sell it. You're not allowed to use a laptop because it's a “restaurant”, but your company name is "coffee corner," make it sense please ? You really need to check the waiter who worked on the evening of May 5th.

We stopped at this brunch bar because we were hungry and wanted to find a place that offered breakfast at 11:00. The atmosphere inside was wonderful, and it was evident that it was decorated very carefully, with attention to detail. The staff was very nice and polite. We ordered a pannekoek (Dutch pancake) with a macchiato and a breakfast package with tea, and we were very satisfied. The food was delicious, and we left feeling full and rested. I would highly recommend it if you are in that area of ​​Amsterdam and are hungry for a good breakfast and coffee, with a good view of the intersection and the people outside.

We ordered lasagna and sole. The sole was poorly presented while the lasagna was unrecognisable in terms of taste and clearly microwaved; warm on the outside and cool on the inside. An unenjoyable foody experience. The location is close to the Museumplein and the pricing reflected this despite the quality of the food.

Stopped in for a "special coffee" and some people-watching, and it didn't disappoint. The drinks were perfectly balanced—just enough alcohol to enhance the flavor without making you stumble out the door! ​The service was incredibly friendly, and snagging a seat by the window made for a perfect afternoon break. It's a great spot to relax, enjoy a Biscoff, and watch the world go by on the Spui. Highly recommended if you're looking for a cozy atmosphere and a solid pour.

Good coffee and friendly service.

Skip this cafe. They were infuriated that paying customers were there for an hour and a half, with no sign stating there was a time limit. They attempted to kick me out mid-taking an exam when there were fifty open seats upstairs and I was about to order another drink. I listened to them mock every customer in Dutch, not realizing that they are not the only people who can understand it. Ignorant staff ruins the entire place. Skip this place unless you’re in the mood for being made fun of, they clearly don’t like anyone that’s not local.

Affordable coffee and beer, and a great place to sit. But when I asked for some water for medication after my drink, I was told they didn't have a water hookup and that I could order a bottle of water for 7.25 instead of two sips. I couldn't even crack a smile. The staff were generally very unfriendly and spoke little Dutch and barely any English. When the Dutch woman (owner) came over, she suddenly became friendly.

Consider this your formal warning: ordering here is essentially a culinary game show where you are both the contestant and the prize - and spoiler alert, nobody wins. Armed with Google Maps photos and what I can only describe as misplaced optimism, we sat down, pointed at the menu, and hoped for the best. The menu, it turns out, was written in a language even the kitchen didn’t fully understand. What arrived on our plates remains, to this day, unidentified. Even the fries - the fries, humanity’s most reliable fallback - couldn’t save us. The beer tried its best. The beer failed. Solidarity, beer. Now, the real star of our lunch experience: our waitress. A visionary. A comedian. A woman who saw the horror unfolding on our faces and, rather than intervening, chose to laugh. Not a polite chuckle. A full, deep, soulful laugh - the laugh of someone who has seen things. She admitted, with zero apology, that she couldn’t explain what we were eating either. She had the power to warn us. She watched us order. She made her choice. Honestly? Respect. If you are reading this with an actual appetite, I implore you: keep walking. A few extra meters of effort will reward you! Cheerio.

Friendly staff and great Dutch comfort food

At 5 p.m., we checked if a table was available, and we were lucky. We got our tickets, but then didn't see anyone for 20 minutes. We were seated upstairs; the staff was downstairs. After 20 minutes, we ordered our food and drinks. Bread, which was supposed to be a starter, arrived at the same time as the main course. The food was delicious, certainly nothing wrong with it. We also wanted desserts. I had crêpe suzette with grande maniera sauce. When I brought it upstairs, a slightly older man came up the stairs with difficulty, carrying two desserts. Half of my sauce went down my pants, and I was given a napkin, and then he was gone... excuse me, no apology? The hostess came up 10 minutes later and asked where I should send my bill in case the stain didn't come out. She made some effort and came with a wet wipe and a belated, but in my opinion, insincere apology. But more so because her colleague didn't say so. I won't be going back there anytime soon.

Came in at 5 pm and asked the waiter if it’d be okay if we ordered drinks and appetizers. We were told yes and then met with rude, condescending, and impatient service, saying they wouldn’t serve us if we didn’t order dinner even after having approved our question.

The reviews for this place were very bad, but my son always wants to test bad reviews. The service was fast and the atmosphere was nice. There were cobwebs on the ceiling, but still very good. Highly recommended!

Bravo, the rudest service I've ever experienced. I'll never forget this place or the way I was spoken to. If the waitress treated her dog the way she treated me, animal control would have to intervene. One extra star because I laughed so hard on the way home.

We are Spanish and have come to the museums. We ate at this restaurant and it was great; we had a delicious entrecote with a delicious dessert and a delicious cappuccino. The staff was very friendly and the place was very clean.

The dishes are bland, poorly executed, and served with absolutely no attention to detail. It feels as if the recipes were improvised at the last minute, without any understanding of culinary basics, let alone Dutch cuisine. The flavors are nonexistent, the textures are imprecise, and some plates arrive lukewarm, as if they had been sitting around for too long before being served. The price is completely unjustifiable: paying this much for such bland dishes is almost absurd. Even simple ingredients can be well prepared, but here, nothing is done with any skill. It's a series of disappointments, from the appetizer to the main course. In short, this is a place to absolutely avoid if you enjoy good food. There are many restaurants that are far more serious and respectful of their customers. Small Talk is, unfortunately, a major culinary disappointment.

Bad experience with the owner's service. Tap water wasn't available, the latte macchiato was a latte, and she wasn't willing to make something else, or she had no idea what that was. The pea soup was clearly canned. This place clearly caters to tourists. Such a shame! It's been different before.

Before entering, we informed the staff that we only wanted to have drinks.In addition to one drink per person, we also ordered meatballs. When the food arrived, the waiter refused to give us a fork and insisted that we eat with our fingers. Very nice during Christmas season. We ate the food that was over form Christmas and it was delightful. The stafff was very kind and accommodating. Also it was nicely decorated for Christmas !

What a cool restaurant! ☺️ Both inside and out. A really lovely and cozy atmosphere. We were at Smalltalk four years ago and had such fond memories of it, so we went back again today. The food was good and the staff were attentive and friendly.

We ordered a delicious Christmas dinner. Ron and his team made it a real treat for us! The chicken and vegetable soup, the tenderloin, the vegetable dishes and salads, and the tiramisu were excellent! The chef who prepared it is a true chef! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. In short, Smalltalk Eating House is highly recommended!

A traditional place, a variety of dishes, and excellent service.

We entered, intending to grab a quick cup of coffee, as the café/coffee shop next door was closed (which I assume is the same place after all). An international friendly showed us to our table. After a (fairly) long wait, we received the menu. It didn't have a flat white on it, so we asked the waitress (who, judging by the other reviews, turned out to be the owner) if they had one. With an eye roll and an arrogant tone, she said they did. So we ordered two. After a maximum of 20 minutes, we went to pay, and she suddenly, with a change of heart, politely thanked us. It turned out we paid €6.10 each for a flat white! I didn't like it personally, but my friend did. But judging by the other reviews, it turns out the owner doesn't appreciate people who "just" order a drink. Not surprising, though, when the coffee shop next door is closed and refers you to this one (with the same name). After all, it was very quiet. Never again, and for outrageously high prices. I don't wish it on them anyway...

The food is nothing special, and the service and welcome are disastrous. My partner's very poor English earned him an unpleasant remark from the waitress about how the French don't make any effort! We can just imagine them complaining and criticizing the customers amongst themselves! If you have a choice, avoid this place.

A café opposite the Stedelijk. I seem to remember it being there back in the 90s, and not much has changed. The building itself is lovely, with its beautiful clock on the front. It's like a little trip back to old Amsterdam, and somehow timeless. You should definitely go there!

A quick note about the ladies running the counter—they may come across as a bit curt at first, but once you get used to their style, you realise they’re actually warm, hardworking, and genuinely kind. It’s part of the charm that makes Small Talk feel authentic rather than polished or pretentious. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth dropping by for a simple but solid coffee experience.

One of the few autentiek café’ in Amsterdam,Professional and plesent service, price under the everage restaurants in the city. I come hier since two years, feels like home.

It is common practice to have a fatal relationship with the clients, and therefore it is obligatory to consume a number of customers who are willing to pay their dues (no solo a nosotros, sino a todos, except that they are admitted to a bolso de Louis Vuitton). A charming, authentic lunch spot that's been around for over 40 years and where the oat milk elite hasn't yet made its entrance. The prices are also very reasonable.

At a quarter to two, the four of us stopped by for a drink and maybe a bite to eat. "Sorry," was the reply, "it's lunchtime, so unfortunately." Welcome to Amsterdam, fine hospitality, NOT. So, never again Small Talk.

Smallish (cozy?) place with some sheltered patio seating in front. It has a small bar. The menue is on their website and is quite eclectic. Service was friendly and quick. Food was very good.
