Very bad experience !! I toke the most expenssive croissant 12e

It's pretty bad, a complete tourist rip-off. Low-quality, tasteless but attractive-looking products, high prices. A place that only manages to stay open thanks to its tourist location.

A total rip-off! I had to pay €15 for a croissant; the prices weren't displayed. Plus, it was terrible.

I just paid EUR 19 for a small brownie and a thimble of Baileys hot chocolate. Insane! Service was incredibly slow. I was grateful of somewhere to sit but the music is awful and it's cold with the front door open. Bonus points only for vegan cake options.

Horrible! And a big scam! A waffle for 10 euros! The prices are not displayed and when it comes to paying the bill you are told exorbitant prices!! The waffle was not fresh and we were sick all night because of it!! Run away!! It's a shame that this type of business hasn't closed yet!!!

Sophie’s Kitchen is a dessert lover’s dream. It’s open almost all day and night, which makes it one of the few places you can go when a late-night sweet craving hits. The display is absolutely mouth-watering, you can’t walk by without stopping to look, and honestly, it’s almost overwhelming to choose because they seem to have everything you can imagine. We went twice and both times ended up getting the lotus waffle with vanilla ice cream on top. It was really, really good. I’m not sure how fresh everything is since many of the items are reheated, but it still tastes great once warmed up. The staff is friendly, though one small downside is that there are no visible prices, so you only find out the cost after ordering. Still, it’s a fun spot to satisfy any sweet craving, especially late at night, and worth visiting just for the experience (and that lotus waffle!).

Felt like it was the only lively/lit up place on the street. So we walked into it as we walked past, got some really good waffles and the service was amazing (we got free churros and they were nice!).

40.50 for 2 pistachio croissants, 1 normal croissant, 1 mini pancake basket, 1 donut and 1 cappuccino and 1 espresso. After double-checking and asking for the receipt, she gives us a receipt for the entire order without the detailed prices. She tells us that a pistachio croissant is worth 7.50 Euros! In total, when we count it up, we don't even get the correct total! A real scam! Not to mention that nothing was good, everything went in the trash! We ate pistachio croissants at Saint-Jean, 5 euros but the best! Run away from this place! A tourist trap!

Completely overpriced. There are no prices posted, and you're surprised when you pay. I paid €14 for an Iced Matcha Latte and a mini croissant with very few pistachios. The matcha tasted like milk. Next time, read the reviews first. A waste of money.

Super amazing store and great staff! My friend unfortunately had a bad incident with weed and the staff was super helpful and supportive helping out my friend to calm down and sober up. They let her lie down and get some coffee and patiently waited for her to sober up. This was really late at night as well and even though workers were super tired they still helped and kindly told her not to be ashamed. Super nice workers! Food was great too and nice atmosphere:)

DO NOT GO!! ordered a biscoff cookie inside had what we thought was banana in the middle at the moment which was soo chewy and i did think it was odd but continued eating until i noticed mould. EEK. when we brought it up he said it was custard crème and we showed him closer what do you want me to do about it. VERY CONDESCENDING

There was mould in our loaded cookie and when we told the guy behind the counter he kept telling me it’s the custard cream when it’s clear green mould. Then he kept telling me ‘ok and what? What do you want me to do about it?’ This place is a joke don’t go. We should’ve taken pictures of the mould before he took it away ‘to show the manager’.

We just wanted to grab a quick croissant: €15. The taste was absolutely terrible. Extremely dry and tasteless. Definitely don't go there!!

A stroopwafel with Nutella for €13. The girl serving us didn't even look at us when she was serving us, even though she was talking on the phone. The prices weren't posted, which was our fault for not asking. We didn't like the waffle.

An absolutely amazing experience! Fresh and delicious food, excellent coffee, and a warm, cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended for trying their signature pastries.

We stumbled upon it by chance while on vacation. I just wanted a scoop of ice cream because our tram was coming soon and we didn't have any time. The seller rolled his eyes at us, in my opinion, because we only bought one scoop, and was just plain rude. However, one scoop costs €3.50, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Below average food that's too expensive and absolutely HORRIBLE service. Go somewhere else, I wish I didn't spend my money there. The guy who served me "didn't have time" to give me a sample of ice cream.. even though there were no other customers.. so I didn't buy more and very glad I didn't in the end!!

Terrible! super expensive and RUDE service

This was the worst experience and worst customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. The woman working there was unbelievably rude and unprofessional and shamelessly trying to scam us into paying for something we didn’t order. While we were trying to grap a couple of sandwiches to go and seeing our options we firstly chose 2 sandwiches but very soon after that before she even moves we requested a different one “instead” of one of the sandwiches that we had and we even pointed out which one we didn’t want anymore. After paying with card and before we even take the order we noticed that the amount we paid was ridiculously high so we asked for the receipt to find out that we were charged for an extra sandwich. When we talked to her that this is not what we ordered and requested a refund for the extra sandwich she refused to give us any money back. She even took the extra sandwich back to the shelf and asked us to leave without getting the money back and threatened that if we kept talking we are not gonna get any thing from the rest of the order that we had already paid for. She kept ignoring us and even called us liars and threatened to call the police. When we asked her to do so she retreated and said I don’t have time for this and still refused to give us our money back. So if you don’t want to get robbed off your money with such audacity and zero accountability , just don’t go there. The only positive thing about that place was the decent Syrian guy who worked there and solved this issue so diligently within just a few minutes after wasting almost an hour with that scammer.

If I could give less than one star, I would. The woman working there misheard our order, and when we pointed it out, she refused to correct it. Instead of resolving the issue, she shouted at us and insisted that we either order something else or leave, but she wouldn’t replace the incorrect item.

The worst experience ever i had in any restaurant in amsterdam. Beside the unrealistic prices listed . There was an female staff member, she is unprofessionall in any country could anybody deal with . Her attitude/ body language / the way she speaks and reacts is the worst of all time . We decided 10 people over there in the place not to proceed with the order due to her attitude and how she treated us . To the manager, this person is getting customers to run from your place as her attitude doesn't represent anything related to the place.

A classic tourist trap. We came across this bakery while passing by and spontaneously decided to stop by for coffee and cake... We should have read the reviews. We should have been suspicious that there were no prices posted in the display. Anyway, we paid €28 for two small latte macchiatos, a chocolate donut, and a strawberry vanilla croissant. (It tasted pretty good, but not at that price.) Well, a clear case of learning through pain.

They charge extra for toppings like air and regret. The menu is pure fiction, and the prices change depending on how gullible you look. While I was choking down my overpriced relic of a pastry, other customers literally threw their meals in the trash—which, honestly, is the best thing you can do with this "food." Absolute tourist trap. Avoid unless you enjoy being scammed and insulted.

We came across this restaurant with neotaste and would have been better off reading the reviews here. There are no prices on the baked goods. We chose the Dubai croissant and the vanilla croissant with strawberries. We should have asked for the price better because despite 2 for 1 we got 15€!! Paid for the Dubai Croissant. Because I couldn't believe it when he typed the price into the device. When asked, the answer was that it was already 2 for 1 because the Dubai croissant costs €15 and the strawberry vanilla costs €13. Absolute impudence. We also only got paper plates on site. Nothing special in terms of taste. A small child is also playing around with a spatula in the kitchen. Not very hygienic...as already described several times, an absolute tourist trap.

I orderd a hot chocolate for 5€, instead i got a Kakao cup which usually coste 0.50€.

Terrible experience at this cafe! Ridiculously expensive and they up charge for everything, yet they lead you to believe it’s included. Two coffee’s, a small ice cream, waffle and eclair cost us €44.00. Don’t visit this place unless you want to pay ridiculous prices for terrible food. Awful!

Visit in The night in October 2024 was short yet very sweet. Great sweets quality, nice service, two guys were fine and clarified our order 👍 Prices are just as any other place in Amsterdam: not cheap as before.. Great waffles and pancake! Thanks!!🥳

This place used a very small kitten (i think 1 month max) as an advertisement object, by tidying him to a rope and placing him in front of the entrance. You should be closed for this. Such a shame.

Not recommended. It's that I got it. Donuts and waffles are rock hard. The macarons don't really have any taste either. For that price you expect more. Tastes like it has been there for a long time, but just threw it away. Food is actually not worth a star. Would go for dunkin donuts. Same price range for a delicious product.

Firstly, this seems to be a common trend in Amsterdam, but none of the prices were listed. Only add ons for waffles were listed, and they were crazy. 2.50 just to have sauce on a plain waffle. There's a rotating machine promoting items with false prices as when asked for the exact same product advertised, they charge a different price. I had the softie, which was good but was advertised as 1.50, but I was charged 5.50. I went in twice and was charged different prices each time despite ordering the exact same thing. When I asked for the product, they started making it without telling me the price despite me asking multiple time 'what's the price'. The ice cream was very nice and they were very generous with toppings but the prices are off and they charge people different prices. There's no set prices except for gelato. It's really a gamble unless you get a gelato as they'll charge whatever they feel.

Everyone is saying it’s a tourist trap which it might be, I don’t know. All I know is it was open at 1am and I appreciated that, because I was starving and needed something to eat and they were open. All I got were some churros and they were delicious honestly. The best ones I’ve had in Europe so far. They were tender and flavorful and not dry like other places. The price wasn’t bad honestly for the portion I got. Now I don’t know about the rest of the food there, but the churros are worth it

Tourist trap. They tell you to add toppings making it seem like they’re free and then they charge you at least 13€/croissant!! No prices are written anywhere so they charge you whatever they can, and won’t provide any receipt either. No wonder that none of the reviews here are good.

Tourist trap, stay away. I came here after a long night out and I asked for a 5 euro waffle. The guy taking my order asked me about all of these toppings which I thought were free. They make it seem free but all the toppings add on 2-3 euros onto it. I tried to scan my discover card and it did not work even though I later saw that they accepted it. I ended up being charged 12 euros and while they were making it the guy kept asking me what I had asked for on top. Then I received churros with a topping I didn't ask for. I then told the guy and he tried arguing with me but thankfully made him remake my order. I still got an extra topping I didn't ask for on top. This didn't seem to be unique to me either, a couple came in after me and specifically asked for no ice cream. They then received ice cream on top and also complained about the shady up charges. Had my credit card worked I would have issued a charge back. The food was good but they are not honest and keep messing up your order.

A scam, we normally check the comments in restaurants when we go to eat, but not when we go to have a coffee with a pastry, here they charge you whatever they want and since you have not been careful to ask the price first, well to pay like a fool..... once and no more.
