Surinaams restaurant WENBO in Bijlmer Centrum (D,F,H)

Unfortunately, this restaurant is permanently closed, we went to have a look and we were very saddened by the sad sight of the completely disappeared restaurant. We have always had a very tasty and enjoyable meal here and the owner was always very friendly. We wish her all the best from here too.

Had a delicious roti roll with lamb. Their homemade ginger beer is highly recommended.

I go to the restaurant with her often. She's getting ruder every time; she has no idea of ​​customer service and literally chases customers away. She's incredibly rude; she won't let you steal normally, and she won't even give you a table. When you want to pay, you have to show your bank account first, which I find incredibly rude because she won't let you pay until she knows what card it is. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience, which is a shame because the food is good.

I've been coming here for seven years, enjoying my food and having good contact with the lady behind the counter. However, this week I had an unpleasant experience that I'd like to share because the lady is unreasonable. Since this year, Rabobank (one of the first, the rest will follow) has started replacing Maestro and V Pay cards with MasterCard or Visa cards. I've had one of those MasterCard cards for two weeks now. The lady behind the counter charged me €2 extra for using it. I tried to explain to her that this is a new card and simply a (debit) card. There are no extra costs for the merchant compared to the (old) MaestroCard. She refused to understand, and assuming she wasn't aware of these new cards yet, I paid the extra €2 because otherwise I wouldn't have received my food. To clarify matters for myself, I contacted Rabobank to check if there were any additional fees for the retailer using the new MasterCard. There weren't any, as it's a regular (debit) card. I just tried to explain this to the woman over the phone (I live 125 km away), but I didn't really have a chance to get my point across. She kept ranting and raving, and I couldn't get through. I asked for an email address where I could link to a few websites so she could leisurely explore what these new MasterCard and VisaCards entail. This wasn't an option, and the phone was hung up on me. Suddenly, I too was faced with the frantic treatment mentioned in several reviews. Do you have a new MasterCard or Visa debit card? Great food, very annoying woman behind the counter (see also reviews about breastfeeding and hysteria about alleged Mastercard surcharges)

Wanted to have lunch here with my family and had to breastfeed my baby. I was just feeding when she came screaming to tell me that she was going to cancel our order because she didn't think it was right that I was breastfeeding. Of course I was doing that discreetly, and the restaurant was otherwise almost empty so no one was bothered by it. But she thought differently and told me that it was 'dirty' and 'ridiculous', pointing at my drinking child. I think that every mother should be free to feed her child when necessary. No one else has any opinion about that, and certainly not in such a rude way. Too bad, because the food is good, but I will never come back here.

Worst restaurant in the Gate. The food is crappy and the owner is downright rude. This restaurant is for event visitors who see it as a plus that for some reason there is always enough room to eat here. It's the only reason this place is even open. Not a good representative of South East

Tastiest vegetarian roti (and other dishes) in the area!

This could have been a good restaurant. Was good until it got busy and the staff started to get all stressed. I don't eat very quickly, but I have never experienced them asking three times if I was ready. Then we were asked to pay, I wasn't even allowed to finish my drink. 0 stars for friendliness here. Delicious food for a competitive price!

Not even worth 1 star. Rude waitress shouts at you as a customer when you ask for a napkin and a fork. The sandwiches were not tasty, the straws were hanging right above the open garbage can and the glasses were covered in deposits. When ordering, she explains that we have to order more, because this is not enough. When we sit down and she brings the sandwiches, it turns out that the cod is salty and dry, the pom too soft and no taste except sugar. Then we ask for a knife, and she indicates that she does not have a knife that I can use. Then we ask for an extra plate, and an extra napkin and a fork. She forgets the napkin and when I ask for it again she yells at me that if I need something, I have to ask for everything at once. Because she's not going to walk up and down. And that we are difficult to ask for so many things. Crappy service and food, actually not even worth 1 star.

Great meal. You can really find better Surinamese in the area, but it is a nice place to sit and the portions are very large and not too high in price. Recommended if, for example, you are going to do something near the Arena and you want good soil.

We had the tofu curry with rice.. somebody who loves tofu, curry and rice will like the food and taste.. price was also reasonable.. their roti role is quite famous..

Lekker en voldoende en vriendelijk personeel

Tent is onopvallend maar daardoor wel een verborgen juweel. Het eten is daadwerkelijk heeeer-lijk. Ik woon in De Haag maar gek genoeg om een omweg te maken voor een portie.

Zaterdagmiddag langsgeweest, was behoorlijk druk. Dame achter de kassa kwam heel chaotisch over en best ongeïnteresseerd. Na het plaatsen van de bestelling werden we naar buiten gestuurd om te wachten.. 20 min wachttijd.. Na 25 min maar naar binnen gegaan en was de dame achter de kassa op zoek naar mijn bestelling, deze was vrij snel gevonden..Vroeg of ze ook peper had ingepakt, en de dame wees me op een bakje met sambal..Dit leek wel sambal oelek, was overigens 1 bakje. ik had 2 gerechten besteld dus dat vondt ik een beetje weinig, toen heeft de dame dat grote bakje gewoon in 2 hele mini bakjes verdeeld en meegegeven.. Heel jammer voor een 1e bezoek.. Had beide gerechten ook in de speciaal variant besteld, weet echter niet wat het verschil was met een normale portie, vlees was niet apart maar gewoon op de nasi verpakt.. Ik ben gewend dat speciaal inhoud dat het (extra) vlees apart wordt verpakt, hier dus niet en ook de porties waren niet groot. De geroosterde kip (zie fotos) zag er ook een beetje aangebrand uit..

Lekker Surinaams eten voor weinig. Genoeg vegetarische keuze, vriendelijke en snelle bediening.

Let niet op het uiterlijk van dit restaurant: het ging de eigenaren duidelijk niet om de verpakking, maar om de inhoud. Vrouw en zoontje hadden een tjauw min kipfilet en groenten gedeeld en ik had tjauw min met mager varkensvlees met pikante Wenbo-saus en groenten. Daarnaast nog een potje sambal. Oh boy, dit was smullen hoor. Zelfs vrouwlief zei echt genoten te hebben. Zoontje nam af en toe een beetje Wenbo-saus voor bij z'n tjauw min. Ondanks dat die best pittig was, vond ie het erg lekker 😁 Ikzelf heb m'n bord tot de laatste restjes en laatste druppels saus leeg gegeten. Als toetje hebben we nog een doosje met verse maïzenakoekjes genomen. Om uit te buiken zijn we daarmee naar Duivendrecht gelopen. Kortom, als je van smakelijk Surinaams eten houdt, kom hier dan zeker even langs.

Heerlijke grote Saotosoep gegeten op locatie. Sambal die je erbij krijgt past er goed bij. Collega de kleine genomen en was er ook zeer te spreken over.

Ook in tijden van Covid hebben ze hier de lekkerste roti van Bijlmer. De roti is hier best pittig gekruid. Als je niet van pittig eten houdt kan je ook de mokis meti bestellen, fijn gekruid, maar niet pittig. Of je kan 1 van de vele andere gerechten bestellen...

Een degelijke tent met lekkere broodjes en lekkere gerechten. Ik vroeg mij wel af waarom het hier minder druk is dan de andere gelegenheden.

Altijd lekker eten, vriendelijke bediening. Flinke porties voor een goede prijs. Ik ga hier heel regelmatig halen, Roti is een favoriet van mij.
