The gravy lacked the sweetness of cooked vegetables and the aroma of meat; it tasted more like it had been over-thickened with cornstarch or seasoned with powder. The chicken had an odd texture, falling off the bone too easily, yet it didn't taste like it had been cooked with care. This was the general feeling throughout the meal, including dessert.

We ordered two dishes with mashed potatoes, the typical dish. My dish (vegetarian) was impeccable, while my companion's, with sausage and bacon, arrived cold. It makes sense to try it because it's typical. The fries were good.

We came here on a reservation at 5:15 when the restaurant wasn’t too busy. The dishes were mixed. Some liked their dishes and other didn’t. The short ribs and liver was 5/5. The chicken was 4/5, a bit salty on the chicken and very bland on the mashed potatoes. The vegetables (stew?) was not notable at all, it was not a stew as the menu suggested and was bland mushrooms with some mashed potatoes. The server did not offer us water glasses for our water. The food came out about an hour after ordering.

The restaurant is very dirty (there are rugs instead of tablecloths), and the service, besides being slow, is very sloppy and inattentive. The food is unremarkable and unsatisfying: it feels like they're trying to fill your stomach with a completely tasteless mashed potato. A tourist trap.

We had a wonderful dinner at Heemelrijck. The warm atmosphere — with its red colors and golden lighting — gives the place a refined, elegant ambiance. The service was excellent, and as first-time visitors to Amsterdam, we were excited to try traditional Dutch cuisine. The short rib with mashed potatoes and vegetables was outstanding: very tender with a rich, flavorful gravy. A perfect Dutch dining experience!

I wanted to bring my daughter here because it's typical Dutch food... a warm and very nice atmosphere... The service is good, the food is good, but it didn't leave a mark on me... The various spices they used made my stomach churn... the soup I had seemed more like a compact cream without any liquid, basically... anyway, I would go back because in the end I had a good time... everything I wrote is based on my own taste and I'm speaking only for myself... but the place is worth a visit...

If you really must try Dutch food, this is the place to visit. For once it’s a good experience.

Today I ordered French toast from Heemelrijck. A single French toast, about 10 by 10 cm, for over 10 euros is seriously overpriced. We had to eat another sandwich somewhere else afterward because we were still hungry. The service was very friendly, though, and the atmosphere was nice.

Great place to eat authentic Dutch food! The decor is charming and feels like you're walking into your grandparents' house. The tables were very close together, so we could hear everything our neighbors were saying, which was a shame. The stew wasn't the best I've ever had, but that's purely a matter of taste, of course. The stamppotten (mashed potatoes) were delicious, and the gravy-to-mashed potato ratio was perfect ;) The service was fantastic, with friendly and enthusiastic staff. We arrived at the right time, around 6:30 PM, and were served quickly. Around 7:30 PM, it got very busy, and everyone had to wait longer, but thankfully, we were already gone by then.

The place is very cozy and charming. The food was very good. We arrived around 9:15 pm, and the waiter informed us that the kitchen closes at 9:30 pm, not 10 pm as stated on Google’s profile.

If you are looking for great atmosphere and local food, this is a great place to go. Make a reservation online. If you have to wait for a table have a beer at the bar across the street.

If you are looking for authentic Dutch food, I guess, this is it. I suggest to make reservation as they are usually full, we got lucky because someone cancelled as we are about to walk away. We had couple of things, including the beef stew and sourkerret beef, combined into a plate as we are sharing. The team was accommodating and explained the dishes well. Good food, comfy tummy!

The food was very good but the service was just ok - we had to wait 10 minutes under the rain to get our table even though we had a reservation. Still had a nice dinner and would definitely recommend the French toast with cinnamon that was delicious, a must-try!

We went last weekend with our mothers and had an amazing experience! The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge — we all left very satisfied. The staff was warm, welcoming, and so much fun to chat with. The location is super easy to reach, and the place itself is cozy and full of character, which made the whole experience even nicer. This place is awesome. I had the bitterballen, meatball, and sauerkraut stamppot and they were all seriously good. Pro tip: get the apple sauce and dip everything in it. total game changer. The owner is super fun and friendly too, which makes the vibe even better. Definitely recommend!

Food sucked, extremely overpriced, service was terrible. Waited hours for our meal because the waiter/owner was too busy flirting with customers. They were rude. Oh and now I have diarrhea lol

Very nice Dutch restaurant with very good food. We ordered bitterballen, seasonal stamppot and beef short ribs. All are amazing! Staff are also very passionate about their food and the restaurant. It is decorated as if you are in someone's living room.

The restaurant clearly had seats but they refused to accept us. We happened to see that reservations were open in an hour so we booked. When we returned at the appointed time, the seats were still empty? 😅 Since everyone recommended the roast chicken, I ordered it too. It was delicious, but you need to be prepared to wait for more than an hour. The meal was almost like a French meal. We spent two hours eating and another hour waiting. It wasn't really worth it. When I asked the waiter, he seemed to have no idea.😅

We`ve had the good fortune of finding Petit Heemelrijck our first afternoon in Amsterdam. We initially thought we'd have a quiet relaxing drink on a bridge & maybe move on to eat after that. However, that changed when We noticed the 'old family receipes' on the menu. We love nothing more than quality home recipes as they often get prepared with the sole ingredient we all crave, ie Love. We had the Beef Stew & the gravy was so delicious, half way through,l ordered some bread & butter knowing well I'd want to soak up the last of the juice. It's been a delight to eat such lovely food on the oldest bridge (waiter told me that when we were thanking them all) in Amsterdam. It was so nice we've already decided to come back and try the other old family recipes on the menu. I hope you love it as much as we have.

Truly amazing, what a service and a great real Dutch menu. We love it. Beside the Heemelrijck location at the Single. This is the restaurant version which opens at 17hr. The service was terrible. Every time we asked the waiter for something, he seemed irritated. The food was disappointing, either very bland or strangely seasoned. The portions were small, while the prices were high.

Good food, not comparable to Italian cuisine, but tasty and well-made. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and the service was friendly, if a little casual, so much so that they charged me two more beers than I ordered.

We drove all the way to the restaurant and arrived 22:30 on Sunday because google said it closed at midnight but we were told they closed 60-90 min before we arrived. Just the times are not accurate, we cannot rank the food because we couldn’t try it but the guy was nice.

This is a great place for real Dutch food in a warm and cozy setting. The stamppot and beef stew were excellent.

We made a reservation to try traditional food from the Netherlands at Petit Heemelrijck. On arrival, all other customers were outside enjoying the weather. Our reservation was for a small inside table; we would have been the only customers inside. We asked to sit outside and were given a table. We were ignored for abut ten minutes, we asked for a menu. When the table next to us finished ordering, the male waiter gave us that menu. No attention from any waitstaff for the next thirty minutes. I went in to let them know we were leaving, and pointed out we were the first table outside and it was impossible that we weren't seen. I informed the woman behind the counter that we had a reservation and I should not be charged as a no-show. The next day, I had to file a dispute with my credit card company because I was charged as above. Horrid service, zero interest in serving anyone other than the heavy drinkers at happy hour. We saw some of the fried foods served to others and were glad to have missed the food. Cannot recommend this place to anyone under any circumstance.

We asked the hotel for a recommendation for dinner; something local, reasonably priced with excellent food. Heemelrijck exceeded our expectations! It was everything we asked for and then some. The food was so tasty and the portions were ample. The manager met us at the door and seated us immediately. He had a great sense of humor which added to the experience. The waiter also added fun and was very personable. Read about the family on the menu. They still own and operate the restaurant. I highly recommend that this restaurant be added to your trip’s itinerary. Good for children as well.

The food was good but the waitress was willing rude to me. When I asked for the bill she said she would come to me, and never did. There were not many customers either and I waited like 20 minutes. Then I asked the male waiter, he kindly said I have to pay at the cash register, which I wasn't told. Then I went there, she ignored me and looked at the customers standing behind me and took them first to pay their bill. Then finally looked at me and allowed me to pay! It was my very first restaurant in the Netherlands as I just arrived from the airport that morning. Left a bad taste!

Wait time took longer than 1 hr even when the resto was not that busy. Only 2 tables are occupied downstairs. We have Ordered stampotten, benny’s half chicken, both are super salty we weren’t able to eat the potatoes at all. Sausage and chicken was good on its own but the mashed potatoes ruined the platters.

Ruben, Rafi, and Puck were really good tonight. The short rib was truly delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

The traditional Dutch style creates a wonderful atmosphere. The dishes are delicious! These are dishes you don't often find anymore. They taste just like grandma used to make!
