We enjoyed our visit here and are glad we got to experience a more traditional meal. Waiters were lovely and the restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere. The food was good, although the portion size of the stamppot was quite small. We also had our food arrive before our drinks which was a small annoyance. I’d happily come here again though.

Very disappointing. Path food. Dirty Carpets As Tablecloths. The reviews were good and we were deceived by that, but the store was totally disappointing. Small portions, way too expensive. So really disproportionately expensive even for Amsterdam. The beef stew was a goulash and not even a good one. In Germany I get a better goulash in the canteen and pay €6 with mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes are a disaster, there is hardly any taste of potatoes, butter has to be used! From restaurateur to restaurateur. The spare ribs were ok but I couldn't tell if they were convenience or freshly made. The fries were ok but €5 for a children's portion is quite steep. The carpet on the tables, are you serious?! Dirty, sticky and smells like musty. The only good thing besides the service was the jam, but that wasn't the main point of the dish. 10€ reservation fee is ok, but please also have the table ready at that time. So all in all a bad experience, the money you earn here could be put into sensible furniture and renovation. For these prices I would like to sit in an upscale atmosphere and not have the carpet brushes next to my head!

A 1st Class restaurant with an excellent menu backed up with superb food and friendly staff. All Australians must experience this place but best to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Family restaurant still run by the family. The decor seems typical with paintings and Delftware hanging on the walls. The dishes are very good and I advise you to follow the advice, particularly for local digestives :)

The service was very long, the order served was incorrect and my ice tea was cut with water. I don't recommend this restaurant for a drink, it's a shame because the restaurant opposite is much better!

It‘s a nice tiny cute place in the middle of Amsterdam. Next to Ibis Style Amstel hotel.

Just by chance, I passed by and took another look. Got a table and it was excellent 👍. They serve a very traditional menu and it is excellent. Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

An old-fashioned cozy restaurant, the likes of which you don't often find anymore. From the dark brown interior and the specialty beers on tap, to the carpets on the table and the 'Amsterdammetje' next to the door: everything is just right. Don't expect refined fries, but tasty dishes without fuss, which will give you the feeling that you are sitting at the table with your grandmother. We will definitely come back, if only to try the award-winning French toast!

Excellent Food. Everything was delicious and service was fabulous.

I paid €27 for a meat skewer accompanied by two carrot slices, two potato slices, Brussels sprouts, and two broccoli stalks. None of these items were cooked. And to top it all off: a handful of chips... The chips were the best part of the meal. Ouch. €27, chips, I'm in pain, I'm suffering. Attached is a photo of the meal in question (it's the top plate).

Awesome restaurant. The ambiance, the history, the service, the food, it was all there, and all fantastic. Noah and the team (sorry we didn't get any other names) were quick to provide great recommendations. We were lucky to find a table, we visited in March and it was already getting busy.

De klok heeft hier stil gestaan!! Een echt authentiek cafe/restaurant waar nog de tapijtjes op de tafel liggen. Het Delfts blauw schittert op alle muren. Zeer overzichtelijke menukaart; verwacht hier geen culinaire hoogstandjes. Het is een zeer gezellige zaak.

Very disappointed with this bar. We went there to have a quiet drink in the sun because there were no more free tables at the bar opposite. The coke was cut with water and the ice tea too. There was no house cocktail or mocktail and the service was very long. It's a shame because the bar opposite is very good. Therefore we will not come back and we will continue to go to the one opposite.

Loved it. Great considerate service, and I feel this is something that was missing in Amsterdam. High quality Dutch food, that doesn't try to get too experimental to justify paying restaurant prices for Dutch food - which will always be simple. Simple, but nourishing. For me this is the best Dutch restaurant I've tried, highly recommend the andijvie stamppot. Will definitely be back.

We were a group of 4 people with 1 vegetarian, we all found the food delicious, from the starters down to the desserts. The server was very friendly and talked to us about some interesting traditions. All in all very pleasant evening

Really “old-fashioned” cozy. Super nice staff who simply speak to you in Dutch (where can you still find that). The food was delicious. The portions were large. REAL VALUE FOR MONEY! Highly recommended.

My Boyfriend and i felt sick after eating an Andive at this place, we caught Enterovirus, the doctor said that the vegetable wasn’t washed correctly. Never again.

We got completely ignored. Had to call people for ordering. They forgot our wine. They had attitude. Wish I stayed home. Should’ve known it was tourist-oriented for having Dutch food near Albert Cuyp.

We visit Amsterdam every year and were been looking forward to dinner at Restaurant Heemelrijck as we lean into local Dutch cuisine (and beverages). We knew the restaurant had a long history, was filled with a mash-up of funky and historic decor, and was known for their stamppot! We had a reservation and arrived right on time but they did not have a table ready. There really isn't any place to wait so the gentlemen (who appeared to be running the show) told us pop directly across the street to Cafe Van Wou where he said he'd come get us when they were ready. We love a good dive bar and rest assured, Cafe Van Wou is a good ole fashioned dive bar! The place has just been tricked-out for Christmas and look fabulous. There were only a few locals chatting with employees as they were barely open. We had a beer and killed about 20+ minutes before the manager came to fetch us (he knew everyone in the bar!). The service at Heemelrijck was pleasant, even jovial as there were some laughs shared with staff. The smoked salmon appetizer was quite nice, as were the warm mushrooms. Unfortunately, those were the highlights. We each had stamppot, one with the sauerkraut and one the seasonal, both with sausage and ham/bacon. Disappointedly, they were both a bit average as we've had better, my fiancée didn't finish hers. One was a bit light on the gravy, the potatoes were a little dry and they just didn't really come together for us. The decor and manager were unique and made for an interesting stop but unfortunately we'll be getting our stamppot elsewhere next time.

Amazing and cozy restaurant. I had the herbed butter and bread and the onion soup (and a great beer!), and everything was delicious. The soup was very flavorful and exactly what I needed on a cold January evening. All of the employees were attentive and helpful. Will be back next time I’m in AMS!

I have to say, it is on the pricey side for what you get (for example the bitterballen) and the stew that is served on a small plate. But let's be honest, it is the real Dutch experience! As soon as I walked in, I immediately felt transported back to Grandma's cottage – as if I were transported to the past on an imaginary rug.

We zaten aan een tafeltje voor de deur. Continu kou naar binnen wanneer er gasten binnen of naar buiten gingen. Gevraagd om een ander tafeltje maar dat hadden ze niet.

Het is zeker terug naar toen. Zulke restaurants vindt je tegenwoordig niet meer waar je lekker kan eten. oprecht heerlijk gegeten. Personeel was vriendelijk. Wij gaan zeker nog een keer terug.

Easily my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Food was insane and very authentic. The setting is very welcoming and warm especially for a cold winter day and the waiter was a super cool guy.

I gave three stars not for the food which was good but for the unfriendly staff. The welcome was not the best after a waiter of the restaurant scolded us for not having closed the door while we were still entering and, always the same, when the dish arrived we realized that it was not what we had ordered and he changed our plate but insisted that we had made the mistake. To eat we had the bitterballen, good and the meatballs with a sauce which were also very good

I was looking much forward to this but unfortunately the service was not great.. only 3 people were working for the whole restaurant and the service was very very slow and they forgot stuff.. the atmosphere is beautiful but in my opinion the high prices not worth to the service you get it should be adapted

Such a cosy and gorgeous place! Fab Dutch food and great veggie options! Perfect autumn/winter meals🫶 The waiter (blonde guy) was super lovley and took time to explain the history of the place. My partner said it was my birthday at the end and the staff provided me with a shot and a sparkler which was such a nice gesture! We forgot to leave a tip so I hope a fantastic review will help us make it up 100% would go again and will recommended to our friends that visit Amsterdam!

Top tent, top food, relive old times!

La cocina aquí es una mezcla de holandés y francés, y recientemente visitamos para la cena. En general, tuvimos una experiencia decente, aunque no estoy seguro de si volvería. Los sellos y el filete mignon estaban deliciosos, y la tostada francesa también estaba sabrosa. Los caracoles eran un plato interesante, servido de sus cáscaras con tomates cherry; estaba bien, pero no era mi favorito. Las costillas fueron un poco decepcionantes — secas y servidas con solo una ensalada lateral. Se suponía que venían con papas fritas, pero llegaron a mitad de la comida. Sin embargo, me pareció que el cargo de 3 € por persona para el agua del grifo 'ilimitada' era bastante empinado. Si bien entiendo la necesidad de cubrir los costos, esto se sintió excesivo. Además, nuestra mesa para cinco estaba ubicada junto a la puerta, que era bastante corriente, ya que bastantes personas no la cerraron correctamente al entrar / salir. Podría ser beneficioso para el restaurante extender completamente su cortina gruesa para crear una mejor separación de la entrada. En general, si bien hubo algunos aspectos destacados, hay aspectos que pueden mejorarse. (Las fotos no siempre fueron tomadas antes de empezar a comer así que sin duda se veían mejor y más llenas en la realidad: ) )

The cuisine here is a blend of Dutch and French, and we recently visited for dinner. Overall, we had a decent experience, though I’m not sure if I’d return. The stamppots and the fillet mignon were delicious, and the French toast was also tasty. The snails were an interesting dish, served out of their shells with cherry tomatoes; it was okay, but not my favorite. The ribs were a bit disappointing—dry and served with just a side salad. They were supposed to come with fries, but those arrived halfway through the meal. However, I found the charge of €3 per person for 'unlimited' tap water to be quite steep. While I understand the need to cover costs, this felt excessive. Additionally, our table for five was located by the door, which was quite drafty as quite a few people didn’t close it properly when entering/leaving. It might be beneficial for the restaurant to fully extend their thick curtain to create a better separation from the entrance. Overall, while there were some highlights, there are areas for improvement. (The photos were not always taken before we started eating so they certainly looked better and fuller in reality:) )

I was disappointed with my dinner at this restaurant. The ribs I ordered were quite underwhelming, it was overcooked and dry-honestly, I’ve had better results from microwaving frozen ribs from Aldi at home. I’m puzzled by the high ratings this place receives; my experience did not match the expectations set by those reviews. Perhaps it was better in the past, but unfortunately, I can’t recommend it based on my visit. The house wine was also probably the worst I had anywhere. Service wasn’t bad but another thing is that we booked for 5 people but were given a 4 seat table. When I asked, they told me that this is how they do it always… This is not a good restaurant.

Me encantó mi cacerola con albóndigas. Es difícil encontrar estos lugares en Amsterdam en estos días. Gran servicio - y realmente disfrutamos de un poco de bromas con nuestro camarero. A very nice restaurant specializing in traditional Dutch cuisine in the De Pijp district of Amsterdam. For an appetizer, we ordered a plate with cheese and meat and bread with herb butter. For the main course, two different stampotes and half a chicken with fries. Finally, 3 different desserts that I recommend the most. All dishes were very tasty and prepared with high-quality ingredients. The service was pleasant, although at times it seemed a bit chaotic. Prices approx. The only minus is the time limit (1 hour 45 minutes), which is a pity because you often come to a restaurant to sit longer and you don't want to think about how much time you have left. Parking in the area may be a problem, we left the car in the Albert Cuyp underground parking lot, about a 10-15 minute walk from the restaurant. I recommend! Especially for those who want to taste traditional Dutch cuisine.

We waited for our food for over 1 hour. They ask you to pay for tap water, and the waiter had a very bad attitude, as if he would rather be anywhere else than working at the restaurant.

The food was great! Service was quite slow, but we were told that there was quite some new staff working - that’s fine, everyone needs some time to learn in a new role, but I don’t think it was very fair of the head waiter to then come and stand by our table for 10 minutes every time chatting and complaining about how the new staff were the reason for the delays, instead of helping them out. Yes, our food took some time, but I was more bothered about the colleague spending so long blaming the new staff. Instead they could have spent time supporting them and better training them.

The onion soup was incredible. There was cheese on top of the soup which enhanced the taste even further. The beef stew and the sausage dish were good but abit salty. Lastly the french toast dessert with cinnamon ice cream was a perfect ending.

We arrived 10min before our reservation time. We were asked to wait outside of the restaurant in a very disrespectful way. We decided to move to another restaurant.
