⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A place with warmth, energy, and character 't Hoekhoes—"the house on the corner"—is one of those places where you walk in and immediately feel: this is the right place. Warm lighting, friendly staff, different spaces, each with its own atmosphere, and a feeling of hospitality everywhere that you can't fake. At the front, you'll find a cozy bar playing classic rock—songs that bring you back without feeling forced. Further on, there's a room with a DJ and dance floor, a heated outdoor terrace where smokers and vapers can sit and smoke, and then the large club room where the bass pounds through your body. Busy, but never chaotic. Full of energy, but always pleasant. Friday night was a wonderful surprise: a gala for a hockey club celebrating its 100th anniversary. People in tuxedos, cocktail dresses, style, and fun. I danced with several people, including a tall, impressively athletic woman who kept me floating for a few songs. A beautiful moment. Saturday had a younger vibe—lots of twentysomethings, beautifully dressed, dancing as if they'd prepared all night. And then suddenly I heard: "Mr. Ramsey! You taught us physics! You were the best!" Alumni who wanted selfies, to share memories—that made my evening complete. On Sunday, I came in earlier. Quieter, warmer, more relaxed. The bartender served me a slightly warmed old jenever, just warm enough to release that soft, smoky aroma—almost bourbon-like. The Hoekhoes schnitzel was generous and beautifully finished with bacon, shallot, and herbs. And the crème brûlée? Perfectly roasted, creamy underneath—clearly made with care. And people… the restrooms. Always clean. Really always. That's no coincidence—that's craftsmanship. Today I'd like to especially thank three employees: Lars, Isa, and Kristal. Their service was fast, friendly, clear, and personal. They thought along with me, solved everything, and did so with a smile. You made my evening. 't Hoekhoes is more than a bar or a dance hall. It's a place with rhythm, style, and heart. For me, this is a solid, honest Nine — and I'll definitely be back. ⸻ ⭐ And finally, a bit of wisdom from an older brother: I'm 55+ and my hearing is still excellent — not through luck, but through discipline. I served in the US Navy on a nuclear submarine, in the engine room, where the noise level is routinely above 130 decibels. You learn one thing quickly there: if you want to keep your hearing, wear protection. Always. Since my mid-twenties, I never go to clubs, festivals, or concerts without good earplugs. And at 't Hoekhoes, my party earplugs go in as soon as the music starts. The music stays great—just without the damage. I went to Hook on a Saturday night, and the atmosphere was fantastic! There was a woman at the bar named "Zero," who was absolutely friendly! She was very welcoming, a breath of fresh air compared to other bars!

As a frequent visitor of this establishment I would like to clarify some statements made by other reviewers. There are in fact clear menus with prices listed on them, which for post corona inflation are rather cheap compared to other establishments. It really is a place for a slightly more adult audience and on weekends security is indeed present to keep out troublemakers and guarantee the safety of the guests and staff. They are very reasonable as long as you are polite. Out of the five ground floor rooms smoking is only allowed in two, which are the front terrace and and the 'serre', or greenhouse, which both have plenty ventilation and heating, even blankets are present at the terrace for the terminally cold. Besides the main rooms, which includes a disco style one, there is the opportunity to reserve upstairs rooms, plan either of the escape rooms for a fun get-together or host a business meeting behind closed doors. Truly an all in one package with excellent staff and owned by a well respected family business in the town's hospitality sector.

We sat at the Hook at the Summer Vibes on July 18. The atmosphere was good, but the music, contrary to what was reported in the media, was much too loud to have a quiet conversation. Maybe things will be better on August 1!!??

This time it was very mediocre. The five of us went to eat but sorry... the steak was not tender and very tough. The spareribs were very hard and somewhat burnt. The cutting was also very bad. Dessert was also almost out of stock, it was around 8 p.m. The service was reasonable. I'm not used to these circumstances from the hookhoes. Later we went downstairs for a drink in the cafe...that made the evening better 👏🏼😂

I wanted to have a nice evening on the terrace with my girlfriend, unfortunately this didn't really work out... it was quiet, you can't do anything about that, right? But if this happens every evening, I understand that it is quiet. The following struck us and we thought it was a shame about the former bustling hookhoes Our baguette was dry and clammy, not completely baked. The nachos were given little attention, everything was thrown on top and the cheese flew over them. There were literally 4 tables on the terrace, the staff was more concerned with smoking than removing dirty ashtrays, cans, plates, etc. from the tables everywhere. The young lady serving was a nice, spontaneous thing! Keeper! On the other hand, the young man who was working took the drinks and didn't know how quickly he had to get away, they could hardly order any food, soof, the hare is slower. The music is great! I was there with a friend and we asked for a glass of water with the wine. We then received two bottles of water and I indicated that I had not ordered this. The operator was very customer unfriendly about this and said it was our own fault because it is 'a new' rule that you don't just get a glass of tap water with your wine. In the end I had to pay for two bottles of water that we did not drink and still had unopened on the table. Very bad service, what matters to me is the principle and the hospitality.

During a birthday party I was allowed to provide the entertainment, the employees gave me a great welcome and guidance, and technical support was also provided quickly and helpfully. Top service.

Today I had to find a place to eat last minute in Almelo. Unknown in this city and unknowingly walked into 't Hookhoes... My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed the food! Mom has to have a steak and I have a tomato risotto. Big 10 for the chef! In addition, a cozy place with friendly staff. Recommended!

Almost no light. You could only read the menu using your phone. An incredible amount of noise, you couldn't hear each other while sitting opposite each other. Not cozy.

Unfortunately I had a bad meal yesterday. Normally the steak is really great here! But the last one was not so good and yesterday was just bad. I indicated that the steak had to be very well done, then I got a look and the comment Done is what you mean... I said yes, that's right, well done. When we got the food, my steak was still red on the inside. Indicated that due to pregnancy it had to be really well done. They started preparing it again. Since there were 2 of us, the atmosphere is not really great because you don't eat at the same time. Unfortunately, yesterday's food was really salty! My girlfriend likes salty food, but she thought it was too much. Indicate this and they would pass it on and that was it. In the end we both didn't eat the food. When paying, I indicated again that it was okay, I'll pass it on. The service wasn't really good either. The lady walking there didn't really seem to be into it. The boy in return smiled kindly!

Never going here again! I am not Dutch and I was asked to show my ID. I was denied entry despite showing my Dutch driver's license and Dutch Residence Permit. My Dutch friends were let in without showing any ID which clearly indicated that they only wanted Dutch people inside. Never going here again.

Went there for dinner with my son. The food was pricy but not tasty. The beer was more expensive than at the hotel and the price did not appear on the menu...only on the bill. Despite all this all lot of people went there and blew cigarette smoke into my and my son's faces. We won't be back.

Super cozy tent, located on a catering square, right in the center of Hengelo. Staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and hospitable. They have a small menu, with simple, but high-quality dishes. In addition, the prices are reasonable. The beer list is decent (plenty of choice). In the evening the location turns into a kind of dancing. Definitely worth it if you are in Almelo.

Overall friendly service, but lately it takes way too long before you are helped. I would not have mentioned this if it was solely due to staff shortages, but this is mainly because the service comes by far too little and does not pay enough attention to actually serving. Delicious food, we had the pasta with truffle and satay. I really don't like sitting downstairs that much. There's a draft at all the tables and it's just not comfortable. However, the upstairs has been beautifully renovated!

Had to give 1 star actually 0 We had made a reservation here last week for 12 people due to our wedding day. Once we arrived, there was no table ready in the restaurant area, which was requested, but a few tables were quickly put together in the room. After the first round of drinks we were given a different menu which was very limited and not as stated on the internet as I had assumed so that there was something for everyone and there was nothing further that could be arranged, it was a shame how the staff dealt with this. .
