The Coffee Spot Spaarne in Oude Stad

The coffee is good, but that is about all there is to say. We already had to wait quite a long time for the first round at 8:15 AM, and the coffee was brought one by one. But the second round of coffee took a quarter of an hour; then we went inside to take a look and they weren't even making our coffee yet, but were making breakfast for themselves… Even though there were four of them, mind you! We just cancelled our second round. They were busier with each other than making coffee…

Spot on food and wonderful coffee. I am very prompted to leave this review as full 5* because ALL was great. We had Salami & Cheese and Smashed Avo with feta. Service was excellent. If we were here longer we would take the train back into Haarlem to eat here again. 5 stars als go to the 2 sleeping cats.

Lovely inside and out. Americans, please be patient as this isn’t Starbucks. Very friendly. The team is fluent in English (as are most Dutch). Good selection of pastries and more substantial food. Views of the canal from the outdoor seating. Two cats reside in the restaurant.

It is a nice spot by the road on the terrace. Lots to see. We were served quickly. We had an espresso and a latte. With 2 cinnamon buns and 1 croissant. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for that. We noticed our croissant was missing from the order. But due to the long wait, we were done with it. The cinnamon buns were not tasty. The coffee was good! Not likely to be repeated anytime soon.

We had a vegan carrot cake and a matcha latte with strawberries and chai. Everything was delicious. Dogs allowed, friendly staff, a quiet and cozy place right on the water.

The Coffee Spot Spaarne was recommended to us for its excellent coffee, and it was another highlight of our visit to Haarlem! The espresso, Americano, and apple pie were delicious! The café has a great location with its terrace. And the service was top-notch! All in all, I highly recommend it.

For a while now asking for tips, even on takeout! Ridiculous. Coffee is mediocre at best. Nice location.

Literally an extension of my living room xx

It was very busy and noisy when we arrived. We sat in the back, where it was thankfully quieter. It took a while for the waiter to arrive. The food was pricey for what you get: the smashed avocado was a very thin roll, and the granola wasn't very flavorful (kind of like muesli). Otherwise, the taste was good.

It was strange that I wasn't allowed to know which matcha they use for their matcha latte. I only asked because I was curious if it contained sugar or if it was pure matcha, and I might want to buy some there (if they sold it). The employee replied that it was a secret and her manager wouldn't let her know. Okay? The oat milk was also added for €0.80 on top of the €5 matcha—a pricey, unpleasant experience for a small matcha latte.

It was very busy, and it took a long time to get served initially, but that was later made up for. The interior is also quite small, but cozy. A nice menu with lots of variety.

A wonderful place for a break; even larger groups can be easily accommodated. Excellent communication with the team.

The coffee was very good and the service was friendly. The place itself was packed, so you were sitting very close together. Still, I would recommend this place for a sit-down meal because of the quality of the coffee.

We visited with a large group for a Christmas get-together and had a fantastic time. Moufdi and the rest of the team were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee and cake were delicious, and even though we arrived earlier than planned, this was absolutely no problem. Communication beforehand was excellent. We truly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend this place!

Very poor service today i had. Staff very indifferent and rude. No smile, no get the right coffee, not understanding the customer needs, coffee was too hot.. so on..

This is definitely not a laptop-friendly café! If you google “laptop friendly cafés Haarlem”, this place comes up right away. And at first glance, it might seem that way: there are tables with power sockets and people working on laptops. However, their laptop policy is known only to them, and it keeps changing. 1. I come here quite often, and I still can’t figure out their policy. Sometimes it’s fine to sit with a laptop, sometimes I’m asked not to. Sometimes people are allowed to sit anywhere, sometimes only in the back room. Once I was told that on Sundays laptops are allowed only at the big table — and that’s totally fine! Just write down the rules clearly, like many other cafés do. For example, here’s an example what the other places do: . – The tables where you can use a laptop are clearly marked, so you know you’re not breaking any rule. – There’s a visible sign saying that laptops aren’t allowed in certain rooms or at specific times — and that’s absolutely OK! 2. If you sit with a laptop for more than an hour, you’ll start getting constant “Would you like something else?” “Anything else?” from different waiters every 10–15 minutes. Just be clear and say “We are laptop-friendly place” — everyone will understand. It just feels extremely annoying and unwelcoming, as if I’m being pushed out. 3. Ironically, when you actually want to order or pay, it can take 30–60 minutes before anyone notices you. 4. You are practically forced to leave a tip. As others have already mentioned — this is not America. 5. The music is extremely loud. It’s impossible to have a conversation with my husband on weekends because we simply can’t hear each other. And joining a work call? Completely out of the question. If the music isn’t blasting, the staff themselves fill the café with loud chatter instead of paying attention to guests. When I first moved to Haarlem a few months ago, I was so happy to have such a nice-looking café right next to my home. But it seems they’ve just lost one frequent guest. By the way, the staff used to be much friendlier earlier this summer.

One of the nicest coffee shops I know! Cozy atmosphere, delicious coffee (try a flat white with almond milk!), and delicious food too. Highly recommended if you're in Haarlem. And the other two locations (Turfmarkt and Kamperstraat) are also great!

The waitresses were talking loudly the entire time — I could barely hear myself or my friend sitting right next to me. Extremely unprofessional, gossiping about a customer while others were right there. Overall, the staff seemed quite rude and unwelcoming.

Overpriced food served by grumpy staff. While the atmosphere is nice, it's completely ruined by the staff's bad attitude. Not a pleasant way to start the day. Not worth the effort or the money. Sulky staff. Not worth a visit.

We were here for Sunday morning brunch. The staff were rude and inattentive (even though the café was quiet). The food was good, but the drinks were mostly oat milk with little flavor. The atmosphere is nice, but the staff's attitude made it really difficult to enjoy our breakfast and coffee. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Edit: Thanks for your comment. I find it strange that you find it unusual... I'm not the first to mention the rudeness and ignoring of people by the staff.

Beautiful coffee spot with friendly staff, great coffee and reasonable prices. There are two cute cats keeping you a company. You also get water to your coffee, i was surprised that when i drank my water the waiter or boss brought me another haha. I highly recommend. :)

I was at the Coffeespot in Haarlem and wanted a green shake. The menu didn't specify exactly what was in it, so I asked the girl behind the bar. She wasn't sure and said "avocado or something"... eventually, she said avocado, spinach, apple, and "and so on." Sorry, but I just want to know what I'm drinking; it's food, after all. She couldn't give any specifics about the other juices either, only "tropical fruit and so on." I find that really bad, especially since some people don't like certain things or can be allergic. Then I had to ask where my grilled cheese was. The answer was: "I don't decide that, the girls in the kitchen do that." Finally, 25 minutes later, it arrived. Cold, and the cheese hadn't even melted. Terrible service!!

I thought I knew what a good cup of coffee tastes like... until I walked into Coffee Spot Spaarne. After the first sip, I seriously wondered if I'd accidentally landed in Italy :) . The place is cozy, the staff is humorous, and they know what they're doing. The atmosphere is so comfortable that you almost forget you still had to go grocery shopping. I'd heard about Coffee Spot Spaarne, so I had to try it for myself. I went for the cappuccino and the yogurt bowl with fresh fruit and crunchy granola—it was absolutely fantastic. The coffee is perfect, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff really makes it. This is the kind of place where you go for one coffee and end up with three. I'll definitely be back!

Amazing vibes on a nice sunny day in the Netherlands. The outdoor seating at capacity but we wanted to sit inside, lots of space for that. We ended up ordering a slice of Apple Pie and a latte at this cafe. We walked around the city and saw the old spot for this cafe so great marketing! Made us want to follow the trail to grab a coffee and snack! Nice employees as well!

The coffee is nothing special but the service is consistent and they have cafe cats so the vibes are vibing.

We had a delicious meal and drinks. A cozy and inviting terrace. We opted for cappuccino and hotel chocolate. A slice of apple pie and a brownie were also included. Truly delicious! Highly recommended!

3,5/5 The serve good coffee and you get free water, which is nice. I went here multiple times, but the servers were not really attentive . After we got the menu they forgot to take the orders. The bowl the have are good, there's a lot of seeds, but I would love a little more fruit than the 5 blueberries and banana. The cakes they serve are reallly good though!! I had a pistachio muffin here and it was perfectly moist with a subtle pistachio flavour, would definitely recommend. The atmostphere is great, there's much natural light and the place is decorated quite cozy. When the outside area is busy, the wait can be a little on the longer side.

Had breakfast at The Coffee Spot this morning. Coffee really delicious. Also ordered the American pancakes, but I wasn't a fan. Had a strange aftertaste and I prefer to be able to put maple syrup on my pancakes myself depending on my preference. Now, besides the strange aftertaste, it was also very sweet. Furthermore, this point will be positive for many people, but for me personally this is a big minus: it is pet friendly. I don't mind the cats inside, but one of the many dogs that came in attacked one of the cats. In addition to unhygienic, it is also not cool!

Delicious iced coffee and very tasty homemade cakes. Today we chose carrot cake, lemon cake and children's choco brownie. Absolutely recommended. Staff is busy and very friendly. You can also have breakfast here :-)

The best cappuccino I've had in Haarlem... The truly homemade handmade cakes, the views of the promenade, and the cool breeze that blows while you sip your coffee.

Delicious bowls, our tips would be that they were quite cold and could have been a little larger. Juices like the Green Machine could also have been bigger for that price. Delicious coffee and cozy atmosphere with friendly service.

I have finally found my favorite place for a break in the city center of Haarlem - a small, cozy coffee shop that, in addition to delicious cappuccinos, also has a good selection of teas, smoothies and other drinks. Many delicious cakes, bowls and hearty breads are on the healthy menu - I recommend the avocado bread! Ideal for breakfast, brunch or afternoon snack. A place in the sun, whether outside or inside. Dogs are very welcome and the friendliness of the team is great! The location is unique, right on the water, the Binnen Spaarne, with a view of the Bote, and those who sit on the sea wall in the sun. Right next to it is the De Appelaar car park - great accessibility from outside. The church and large market square are only 150 meters away.

I just happened to come across this little shop while I was trying to find shelter from the fierce Haarlem wind. Staff were all very friendly, the coffee was great and the cake I had was delicious. Was very, very busy but I didn’t have to wait long at all for my order. One thing I have to say is, I really hope I didn’t cause offence to anyone, because after a few minutes I suddenly realised everyone else in there was a stylish, attractive woman and I was the only man! No one said anything and the staff were happy and friendly so I’m assuming I was ok…

The pastries and cakes are very tasty and the coffee is good. The staff are all very helpful and accommodating even for our larger group that meets regularly. There are also changing facilities for babies which is great as many cafes do not have this in Haarlem. This location is also wheelchair/pram accessible, even the toilets which is good.

Sorry… i don’t usually right negative reviews… I was NOT ALLOWED to use my laptop on Sunday… Come on guys…. The love for profit has its limits… how can you say to a person that they are not allowed to take their laptop out from their bag and use it while enjoying the coffee and snack they ordered ? Is it because I might stay longer if I open my laptop so you don’t maximize the profit per table ? Ridiculous! I won’t come again… I left and went to a cafe next door and guess what… I was offered freedom of my own will! I COULD USE MY LAPTOP!

As an alternative, the healthy vegan bowl is also tasty and a little bit sweet, but it could use more muesli for my taste. For dessert: Red Velvet Cake (this is cake of the day, so ask if they have it) and Lemon Cake. The first one, the red velvet, has a very good balance of moistness and texture. But it's the lemon cake that truly steals the show - it's oat-based, reminiscent of grandma's cookies, and paired with whipped cream, it creates a light and airy taste. The thoughtfully designed interior, with its comfortable chairs and soft lighting, makes lingering over coffee with friends at the central wooden table a pleasure. Just keep an eye out for the resident cat with its striking orange-brown-white coat if you have allergies. If you're ever in Haarlem craving coffee, The Coffee Spot is a must-visit.

The place is magnificent, right in front of the river, we recommend being outside (rather than inside where it is very noisy). The croissants are ok (not incredible puff pastry), the dragon fruit bowl is good. The service is slow but normal we were there when the cafe was full. Unfortunately I did not receive what I had asked for, a bowl with yogurt instead of milkshake, I think due to lack of time/misunderstanding between the waiter who had to run everywhere. Damage!

Great quality food but very expensive. Small portions. The design was very nice. The service was completely terrible. We waited over an hour for our food, the staff forgot half the order. The least one could do is to not charge the drinks. Instead we were charged even for the meals we did not get

Waiting a terribly long time for two simple coffees while there were 4 ladies behind the bar, 2 of whom were doing nothing; well, nothing... they were having a nice chat and having something to eat in between. The other 2 were also only working at half capacity and then received the response from the (I think) manager/owner that these were "normal waiting times". If two coffees take almost 20 minutes then something is really going wrong. Because of the nice cat that sat in front of the window in the shop, at least another 3 stars for the atmosphere.
