I spent a long time debating how many stars to give my last visit – after careful consideration, I decided on a maximum of two stars. Reasons: For the price, one would definitely expect better quality across the board: food, service, ambiance, etc. And unfortunately, none of the above points met my expectations, given that this restaurant once had a Michelin star (but conversely, I also understand why it only "once" had a Michelin star). 1. A meat main course costs around €40. I chose lamb for my main course. It actually tasted good, but well, the presentation on the plate? I could have made it myself at home. And a cocktail costs around €20; the glass had no garnish whatsoever, which you can usually get at other bars or restaurants for around €10. If I absolutely had to mention any highlights, then the appetizer of scallops and truffle mashed potatoes would be just about acceptable. 2. The service, unfortunately, doesn't sound at all like a fine-dining establishment. The staff were friendly, but overall, they gave me the impression that the place was hectic. Normally, at a fine-dining establishment, especially at such high prices, you'd expect at least one dedicated member of staff to present the dishes to the guest calmly and without any rush. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. 3. Ambiance: It was simply too loud for me. It reminded me of a train station or airport restaurant. All in all, I was more than disappointed. For the price, there are definitely better places in the area. And finally, a friendly reminder: while the restaurant is located in the W Hotel, it is neither operated nor managed by W itself. End of discussion.

I was very disappointed with most of the food. Judging on other restaurants in Amsterdam. Pasta quite mediocre, starter bread stale, mash potatoes boring… regarding service, friendly but when I pointed out that I didn’t get what I ordered, different sauce as they explained I will get, they got defensive and tried to convince me that is “similar”. Absolutely no idea what they were talking. For this price, disappointing.

very classy and elegant restaurant— perfect for a special evening out: high ceilings, majestic lights, elegant decor. The staff were friendly, attentive, although a bit amateur in the context of fine dining. Ex: they would serve first the guest who tasted the wine bottle, or they would do big pours, or they would bring plates for sharing but only place 1 on the table and leave the other 3 on the bar to go fetch something else… The food was delicious and beautifully presented, with the overall quality and flavors were impressive. Note that the food is meant to be shared. That’s why the menu states that plates will come out as they are ready: everyone should try everything that’s ready. If there’s one thing you should try it’s the chateaubriand. And the Camembert cheesecake.

Lovely trendy restaurant in Amsterdam . Great atmosphere , good music and excellent service. Deserts are huge and great to share . Some good starters . Cocktails are ok , I ordered an espresso martini and it felt like there was no alcohol. The chicken is very average , certainly not a dish to recommend.

What's great about this restaurant is the consistent quality. You know exactly what to expect, and it delivers every time. Good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and a team that knows what they're doing. No major surprises, but that's precisely why they're so reliable.

Everything about the duchess was outstanding. The service was top tier, the lighting and ambiance of the restaurant was something I have never seen before. Dim and romantic but a stream of light passed through the center of each table so you could see your meal and read your menu perfectly. The green goddess salad, truffle risotto, beef Wellington, and roasted chicken was splendid. A true fine dining experience- I wish e had saved room for dessert because the ice cream cart and chocolate bomb looked amazing!

Over priced what they served , not worth . Pasta was cold - no flavour . Chicken was pink on the bone - I mean this is my experience . For someone it’s Amazing - am a good traveler. Cocktails was ok - server is great .

The shop is amazing with marble inside, high ceiling emblematic, the service very good, all of them professionals, the music was relaxed and there was a live girl playing the violin, we went before the time change with a price of 195 per person and an extra drink, the charge also included the tip, let's get to the important thing which is the flavors, I can't say that I ate something and went crazy that I hadn't eaten before, it was delicious, well cooked, it was hot, but I was expecting something exceptional, maybe I had high expectations because of the price, I would go back to try it on a normal day with a different menu. Conclusion, if you want a good atmosphere, relaxed music, good environment and good food you can go, I believe that they need to work on the intensity of the dishes and the flavors.

Loved all the plates we had! Our waiter did such a good job helping us picking our plates based on our likings. The brioche bread they bring to you as a welcome with the Greek olive oil is so tasty. We also loved the crème brûlée!

Amazing experience at THE DUCHESS. I was there with my wife and a friend and we loved every minute. The setting is one of the most beautiful in Amsterdam, and the food matches the vibe perfectly. Highly recommended for a high-end night out!

The restaurant is really beautiful, service amazing but the food is nothing special. Michelin star? Not sure about it. Do not get me wrong… if you need a nice place for a lunch in amsterdam you can consider it…

Overall it was a very nice experience. We were with a party of five and ordered 5 starters, 5 mains and 4 sides. This was plenty for us. Call me a simple man but the regular mashed potatoes in combination with the gravy that comes with the entrecote is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Great night, great food, great drinks. Would come again 😊

This place is not deserving of their rating and resting on their past for sure. Had a knife that would not even slice my broccoli. Poor service and we were left alone for 15 minutes without any attention to issues we had with our meal. Small portions and super high prices relative to portion that make this place poor value. Had the nerve to charge a mandatory server charge as an add on which to be honest was not worth the service. I would not waste my time or money coming here especially when there are much better places in Amsterdam deserving of your business.

Good food but disappointing menu arrangement for Christmas, with waiters that wanted to rush us through the dinner as fast as possible. We had to ask 3 times to have more time between courses. Plates were cold, chinaware looked like it came from the Amsterdam university canteen, very disappointing experience despite some excellent dishes, from a food preparation perspective (most dishes were excellent but overall I would say not well balanced between proteins, fat and acidity, not a single salad leaf or anything seen to balance the arrangement of otherwise very well executed dishes). Also bringing us a single plate of pasta as part of a course and telling 5 people this was for sharing was unacceptable… poor execution of a festive event, I would never come back.. Such a shame and doesn’t reflect well on the W Hotel even if it’s operated by an independent. On the picture you can see the tiny plate the “hero” piece of the meal was served on… let you be the judge of that…

An amazing place for lunch or dinner with quality!

Had lunch with a family of four on December 24, 2025. The atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious. We had the tuna tartare, spaghetti with caviar, tagliatelle cacio e pepe, sea bass carpaccio, and the baby eel aglio olio. They were delicious! We also received two rolls with spreads on the house. The service was friendly! Next time I'll try the high tea. It looked really good too!

This is a restaurant serving fairly decent food in a beautiful grand setting with a glitzy interior and lovely views onto a historic street, with service a very mixed bag. We did the afternoon tea package which was fairly good quality and value. The savoury course we found much nicer than the sweets. We appreciated that there was a full vegetarian menu. The live piano music throughout was a great touch. We found our two waitresses in the dining area lovely to deal with, however unfortunately had a poor experience from the host at the entrance who greeted us - she had an unwelcoming attitude and made us stand around for a long time, clearly in no rush to get us comfortable. This is an area for improvement. The only other thing which could be improved was the toilets which were not in a clean and regularly maintained state - paper towels overflowing bins etc. Overall it was a mixed experience, saved by the tasty savoury sandwiches and our lovely waitresses! I’m not sure we would recommend it or rush back, but it was nice for an end of holiday stop relatively near Central station.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a wonderful experience! The food is absolutely fantastic, they have a very extensive wine list, and the service is excellent. I selected the “Anniversary” option in my reservation, and without saying a word they surprised us with a lovely treat complete with a little sparkler. Such a thoughtful touch! Definitely a great recommendation if you’re celebrating something special.

These were the best cocktails I've had in a long time. I was particularly pleased with the approach of the mustachioed gentleman at the bar. Congratulations to the management!

Best Beef Wellington in the city!

They ridiculously cancelled our reservation, which we made two days ago, an hour before we were due to arrive, saying they had no space. They ruined our whole plan. When a large group arrives, they don't take your plans seriously and cancel reservations arbitrarily. Be careful.

I was truly impressed by this restaurant! The quality of the food is excellent: every dish is meticulously crafted, rich in flavor, and prepared with fresh ingredients that truly make a difference. Amazing atmosphere and wonderful service! Our Ukrainian waitress was very informative and attentive, and the hostess at the front was super lovely, taking care of all our coats. The team at Duchess is incredible with organizing groups — emails were responded to promptly, and they were very accommodating. I would happily host another event here in the future. The only tiny critique is that the sweets for afternoon tea weren’t my favorite, but the scone was absolutely incredible — 11/10! And I make my own scones, so that says a lot 😄. Overall, a fantastic experience!

This place is worth going to for a nice dinner. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is a plate share dinning experience. We wanted our plates to not share and they accommodate the request for us.

The building is beautiful. The cocktails are fantastic. If those could indicate the rest of the meal I’d be thrilled but unfortunately that isn’t the case. It’s a pricey place and you expect a certain effort and consideration in skill. Honestly- The food is poorly presented, prepared, and served. The escargot we ordered was chewy and flavorless - not enjoyable. The entrees were okay at best. The service was okay - everyone clearly tried their best. For a moderately pricey dinner - my expectations were moderately unmet.

The food is great, but so exorbitantly expensive, and they serve the most disgusting meat here: foie gras, horrific. SO UN-AMSTERDAM-Y HERE.

The food is nice although really extremely expensive for what you get. Service was fast and attentive. But never before did I have a dinner for around 350 euros (!) , where I was literally still chewing on my starter when the waiter cleared the table and put the main course on the table. Plates were literally removed three times while we were still eating and I had to stop the staff. We were in and out within 1 hour 15 minutes: the pace and rush destroyed what should have been a nice experience. It felt like a rushed airport or train station dinner where we had to catch the next flight. For that price and so much pretence, it was not acceptable. It was also strange that we had selected the wine we wanted, only for the staff (who clearly did not know a lot about wine) tried to suggest other 'special' wine selections. No thank you - I know enough about the wines I like. The Duchess did not just lose its Michelin star: it is very, very far away from ever getting it back.

Excellent service, friendly, educated, smart people. The food was a hit or miss. We had the chef's selection, and it started off amazing. The starters were excellent (9/10). On the other hand the main courses were mediocre at best (5.5/10), and the seconds were just about decent (6/10). Desserts were absolutely subpar. Incredibly sweet, a mess of mixed, common flavors. (2.5/10). Cannot give the food more than 3 stars. But I can tell you that if you come here just for the starters, you are going to be satisfied, just don't waste money on anything else.

I recently dined at The Duchess and had a wonderful experience overall. The restaurant has a very classy and elegant atmosphere — perfect for a special evening out. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful, which made the night even more enjoyable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. A few dishes could have used a touch more salt, but the overall quality and flavors were impressive. My personal highlights were the caviar pasta, scallops, steak tartare, and the lobster and king crab salad — each one perfectly balanced and memorable. The ADE-inspired dessert was also outstanding and a creative way to end the meal. While I didn’t love most of the cocktails I tried, the Sour was exceptional and definitely worth ordering. Their Chablis was also excellent and paired nicely with the seafood dishes. All in all, The Duchess offers a refined dining experience with great food, lovely ambiance, and top-notch service. I’d happily return, especially for that caviar pasta and dessert.

Amazing. Our waiter, a tall slim guy, was exceptional to us. From beginning till we left, we were treated like royalty 😄 and a Sicilian guy named Walter was ready to help us with our drinks queries ❤️ We obeyed the dreasing code but there were customers who didn't and were treated just the same

Food was ok, very VERY expensive for what you get, we got 3 glasses of water and after that they ask you if you would like to purchase another bottle? Server keeps coming to ask which food you ''like the most'' all is average. Beef wellington no mustard, no bacon just mushrooms, the lamb had no ''herb crust'' just a chive crust and that's it. in the end they also charged a random 12% service fee which wasn't communicated before. I dont mind paying extra if the service was outstanding, but to add 50 euros almost just because you came 3 times to ask which mediocre dish was our best is unreasonable.

The food was mediocre — dishes like the Wellington steak were far from authentic, though I have to admit the plating looked nice. What really ruined the experience was the service. A waitress kept coming to our table again and again during the meal, asking which dish we liked the most — not once, but three or four times. It was extremely annoying and intrusive, and apart from that, there was no real service at all. Yet we were still charged an additional 12% service fee for this kind of “service.” Very disappointing.

A special place to celebrate! Everything was delicious and it was very difficult to define my top 3: tuna tartar with pistachio, the Gambas and the wellington. we had no more room in our stomach for the desert, unfortunately.

We enjoyed an afternoon high tea. The atmosphere and service were perfect, the dishes looked beautiful and were delicious, accompanied by a welcome drink and a delicious tea. Any uneaten dishes were packed in boxes so we could take them home.

Honestly, there's nothing to really say, it's something incredible. We have a wonderful welcome, we have wonderful service and we are told that we have to wait 30 minutes before receiving the dishes but honestly 30 minutes is not enough. Why do you know? Because in the end the food is just exceptional, the meat has an exceptional taste.😁😁😁

This was a nice experience in a beautiful authentic location in X Bank (Historical bank in 1930). The service is explendid, reception received well, cups will be often filled with tea by staffs and every dish will be explained well with passion. I've tried the afternoon hightea, it's quit a lot, as I couldn't finish the last few petit cakes. I was with my family, we choose for some vegetarian and meat options. The dishes looks very delightfull, most are sweet, shaped in theme of the season.

The location is beautiful, but we didn't think the afternoon tea itself was worth the money. It certainly wasn't a bad afternoon tea, but it didn't justify the high price. The service was very difficult to understand due to their accented English and the piano that drowned them out. Sitting comfortably wasn't possible either, as the table leg was so large that you could only sit with your legs apart or with your legs to the side. I myself started with a napkin that had large, nasty stains on it, and the restrooms were also filthy and smelled of urine. These are certainly not things you expect at an establishment like this, but unfortunately, that's what we encountered. There are better places in Amsterdam to enjoy afternoon tea.

I went to The Duchess for afternoon tea and held my bridesmaid proposal there. The staff was very attentive and the ambience lovely, but the food was disappointing. Maybe it’s because I’ve had afternoon tea in the UK and compare it to that, but the overall quality and taste felt mediocre. The scone even resembled more of a ginger cake than an actual scone. Nice to experience once for the setting, but I wouldn’t return for the food.

We had a great time, all the dishes were delicious and fresh. We had Ale as our waitress and he was exceptional! Really recommend!

Food for the afternoon tea was experimental compared to a classic tea. It took a over an hour for the kitchen to prepare our first course whi h was underwhelming. The desserts looked like they were designed by a child and were far too sweet. Additionally, they did not have a selection of teas and ours became cold shortly after being brought to the table. For the price of afternoon tea I expected much higher quality. I do not recommend the afternoon tea. 1/10.

We were there for high tea. We were there for over two hours in total. Service was very slow, there was no sugar for the tea or spoons, and you weren't allowed to choose your tea. I only got sugar after asking. You couldn't reorder sandwiches either. The sweet dishes were okay. For the price and the Michelin star, I expected more. Why is the sorbet ball on the tart, where the waitress tells you to pick it up and get sticky fingers?! No spoons for the berry compote. Or for the toppings for the caviar. The cheese waffles were delicious, as was the eggplant sandwich with cheese. The restrooms weren't particularly clean or nice. The music was also much too loud.

The ambience firstly is great, the service was 10/10. The food was amazing. I highly recommend.

A beautiful restaurant in a prime location. The waitress was also very kind and attentive, but she was very busy, so we didn't always receive the attention we needed. I also found it a shame that the waitstaff frequently lacked knowledge of the dishes and products. The food itself was fine, but I didn't find the flavor combinations particularly special. Refinement was lacking here and there, especially in the appetizers. The cocktails we enjoyed with the delicious dessert were excellent. Compared to other restaurants in the same class, The Dutchess still has a lot to learn.

Grandes platos de pasta y postres con un gran Servicio. Pasta de caviar, pasta de costilla corta y risotto de setas son los aspectos más destacados. La dama del helado es uno de los mejores postres que he probado en todo el mundo.

The wine came out lukewarm, which should have been my first clue to lower expectations. Then came the seafood pasta: also lukewarm, and so oversalted I’m convinced the chef confused the pasta water with the North Sea. I ended up picking out the seafood, which at least tasted fresh, and abandoning the rest of the plate like a failed science experiment. The tartare was no redemption. It arrived buried in salt and topped with smoked eel — something never mentioned on the menu. When I asked, the server casually called it “smoked fish,” as though eel and fish are interchangeable. Had I known it was eel, I never would have ordered it. Either way, the flavor combination was a disaster, and with zero explanation from the staff, it felt more like a practical joke than a dish. By the end of the night, I was so dried out from the salt and warm wine that I walked out of the restaurant less like a diner and more like a human salt lick. I was honestly debating whether to grab a Heineken, jump in a canal, or just start licking condensation off a bike seat to rehydrate. In short: the meal sucked. If salt poisoning is your thing, you’ll love it — otherwise, save yourself and eat literally anywhere else.

Terminé escogiendo el marisco, que al menos sabía fresco, y abandonando el resto del plato como un experimento científico fallido. El sarro no fue redención. Llegó enterrado en sal y cubierto con anguila ahumada, algo que nunca se menciona en el menú. Cuando pregunté, el servidor casualmente lo llamó “pescado ahumado”, como si anguila y pescado fueran intercambiables. Si hubiera sabido que era anguila, nunca lo habría ordenado. De cualquier manera, la combinación de sabores fue un desastre, y con ninguna explicación del personal, se sintió más como una broma práctica que un plato. Al final de la noche, estaba tan seco de la sal y el vino caliente que salí del restaurante menos como un restaurante y más como una salina humana. Honestamente estaba debatiendo si tomar un Heineken, saltar a un canal, o simplemente comenzar a lamer la condensación de un asiento de bicicleta para rehidratarse. En resumen: la comida apesta. Si lo tuyo es la intoxicación por sal, te encantará; de lo contrario, ahórrate y come literalmente en cualquier otro lugar.

Wonderful food and even better service. The servers move like a choreographed ballet! We had the most fun watching how skillfully they managed to create a beautiful experience without being intrusive and giving us plenty of space to talk and enjoy the meal. I wish I could remember our server’s name (I think it started with a G). He made the meal so special, and was extremely accommodating about celiac. He let me know which dishes had possible gluten cross-contamination. Most dishes could be made without gluten, and the servers let us know with every dish they put down what had gluten (since my partner is able to eat gluten and ordered other dishes to try). There was one instance where with the language barrier, I thought one of the servers said the dish was gluten-free (I should have known better, since we had already been told it contained gluten). Once I put some on my plate, our main server (Gregorio? I wish I could remember his name!) said, very alarmed, “NO! You cannot eat this!” He clearly really cared and saved me from having a serious allergic reaction!! I am so grateful. There is a glass wall to the kitchen so you can even watch the chefs cook. A view into a Michelin-starred kitchen is a rare treat. The pavlova was heavenly and we had so much fun. Wonderful food and elegant service without being stuffy. 5/5 highly recommend!

Every time I visit Amsterdam, I make sure that on the day I arrive, I have dinner at The Duchess. For the past three years, it has been my arrival-day tradition, and from my very first visit, I knew this place was special. The service is always excellent, the attention from the staff is impeccable, and the food never disappoints. On each of my three visits, I’ve started with the Tuna Tartare from the Hors d’Oeuvres section—it’s fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. For my entrée, I can’t resist the Beluga Caviar Spaghetti. It’s easily their best dish—rich, delicate, and beautifully presented. The only downside is the portion size; I could happily eat three servings of it, it’s that good. Once, I decided to try the Beef Wellington. It wasn’t bad at all, but I’ll admit I’m not the best judge for that dish, as I personally prefer my steak cooked very rare. Overall, The Duchess delivers on every front—elegant atmosphere, attentive service, and dishes that are both refined and memorable.

Fuimos a The Duchess a almorzar para celebrar el cumpleaños de mi mamá - y disfrutamos cada minuto de la visita! La comida era muy deliciosa - ni siquiera esperaba que el carpaccio de tomate pudiera ser tan inusual y sabroso. El lenguado meuniere y las gambas en salsa de champaña eran demasiado buenos para las palabras! Nos atendió excepcionalmente Nicola que nos habló tanto sobre los platos, las salsas, etc. - él era absolutamente encantador, amable y servicial. Y bruto que nos recomendó fue tan genial - solo lamento no poder recordar cuál probamos. Lo más destacado del día fue el desierto -recomiendo especialmente a cualquiera que venga a The Duchess para la celebración para probar la explosión de chocolate- la forma en que se sirve es inolvidable (y es muy delicioso también). Natalia nos lo presentó de una manera muy impresionante, estábamos absolutamente atónitos, solo lamento no haber tomado el video de todo el proceso. Gwen and Sarah were amazing! Gwen was so welcoming and honest in her recommendations about the menu and Sarah was a great server. Only smiles and beautiful people. The place is gorgeous. But it’s the staff that made it come alive. Thank you for a great night out ❤️

Great experience! Friendly staff, very attentive, very informative. Every dish we had was delicious. The Host Gwen was amazing and very helpful. Her recommendations were all on point! Our server Sarah was also very sweet and really making sure we were always kept with drinks and great service. Great lighting as well. Beautiful atmosphere.

My experience at the dutchess was a very mixed feeling. Our welcome was very nice and the food tasted alright for the price quality. The part that was unfortunate is that after the team wished me a happy birthday, everybody decided to ignore our table, and the whole restaurant decided to push us out of there. We got all the cold stares and looks, the cleaner was vacuuming around our table, and we were indirectly told to quickly leave the premises. Long story short we felt like a nuisance and felt like we were not longer welcome. This was a huge disappointment for our group as we were celebrating my birthday and we also had huge expectations for a establishment such as the dutchess.

Everything we ate was spectacular, especially the beef wellington.

The Duchess was one of the dinner highlights of our Europe honeymoon. Great service, INCREDIBLE food, amazing drinks, and the atmosphere was beautiful. Make sure you have the raw sea bass appetizer! Highly recommend making a reservation as this place gets quite packed.

Niccolò gave our family and me the most memorable experience at THE DUCHESS. We were truly captivated by his charming personality and impeccable service. His attention to the detail made us feel truly special, and it was without a doubt one of the finest dining experiences we have ever had. Huge thanks also to the Chef! The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish; an amazing blend of flavors and textures that we won’t forget. Highly recommend!

Grandiose old space. Glitzy crowd pleasing menu. Very good cocktails (tomato soda). Wellington looks beautiful but not as flavorful as moms

We had very high hopes for The Dutchess and unfortunately left disappointed. Beautiful restaurant but questionable service. Were charged 40€ for water and bread we didn’t order and then a 12.5% service fee that was not disclosed. The sneaky upsells left a negative impression.

One the best restaurants ever eaten in. They should get their Michelin star back! Impeccable service and food quality was very good.

The Chef put love into the food! Many course with excellent flavors and garnishes. The truffles and potatoes were noteworthy. The Entrecôte of Beef with peppercorn sauce was superb, The dover sole was perfectly prepared. Amazing restaurant. Service was excellent and I like that. A nice pour of wines.The quality of the food was the best we found in the Netherlands. Overall a great experience.

I went there for high tea with my 5 best friends to celebrate my late birthday but unfortunately, it was very disappointing. Food was bad and the sweets were even worse. Totally not worth paying 80 euros pp. If only a few of us did not like some of the food, I can understand, but non of us liked the food then it's really bad. We also saw a lot of leftovers at other tables. The only thing we all liked was the tea. The tea was really nice, therefore 1 star for the tea.
