Beautiful restaurant with a stunning interior and elegant atmosphere. The Beef Wellington was excellent and definitely the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the escargots didn’t impress me. It was also quite noisy, so it’s not the best place for a quiet dinner. Overall, I’d recommend visiting at least once for the beautiful setting and the Wellington.

Be aware of the no Laptop policy I didn’t know before and by mistake I took mine but the place is great and also is not part of the W Hotel some people got confused like me. But great place to meet friends and have a nice date.

Have visited before several times, been happy and therefore came back, but very disappointed this time with how little Champaign a glass of Champaign that they served contained. to me this is a rip off, the glass is not even served half! Have also immediately shared my feedback, unfortunately no action was taken. Jammer! Picture attached and no next time for us.

Upscale restaurant with beautiful decor and wonderful service from the staff. I was highly satisfied with my Beef Wellington cooked to perfection. For an accompaniment I chose broccolini w/ cauliflower and pine nuts. Of course you have to end with dessert and I devoured the real crème brûlée. It was so delicious with the right amount of ice cream and torched sugar on top. Such a good place for dinner alone at the bar or with friends.

My mom and I loved everything about this place. She is quite picky about wine but rated every wine she tried a 10/10! Our favorite dishes were the pistachio pesto pasta and prawns in champagne butter. Not sure the beef wellington was quite worth $60, but worth a try nonetheless. Must try when in Amsterdam!

I don't know why the reviews aren't higher for the Duchess, this place is wonderful. We are staying at the W hotel so we decided to give it a try... We got the beef Wellington as a shared main entrée which is absolutely enough for two people, as well as the 10 mushrooms and the Seabass carpaccio along with the truffle mashed potatoes. Everything was absolutely amazing, cooked to the proper temperature, and our server Gregorio was phenomenal. I really could not have asked for a better experience.

This is genuinely one of, if not the, best dining experience I’ve ever had. The service was 20/10, never seen waiters so attentive and quick. Absolutely incredible from start to finish. We will be back!

A wonderful restaurant for dinner in Amsterdam. The interior is elegant and stylish, creating a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere. I ordered the oysters with tomato and horseradish, and they were absolutely delicious. They were medium-sized, fresh, and very well-balanced in flavor. For the main course, I had the spaghetti with Beluga caviar — it was exceptional and definitely my top recommendation. The staff were impeccable throughout the evening — attentive, professional, and very welcoming. For dessert, I had the Pavlova, which was a lovely and elegant way to finish the dinner. Overall, it is a beautiful place with a refined atmosphere, excellent service, great food, and a perfect dinner vibe.

We are from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and visited this restaurant during our holiday in Amsterdam. Our experience was wonderful from the moment we arrived, as the reception staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The receptionist gave us several excellent dish recommendations, and we ultimately chose the caviar spaghetti and the mushroom risotto. The caviar spaghetti was delicious and unique, but the mushroom risotto was, without exaggeration, one of the most delicious dishes I have ever tasted. It is true that it took a relatively long time to prepare before it reached our table, but it was definitely worth the wait. Thank you for this wonderful experience, and we will definitely visit the restaurant again when we return to Amsterdam.

Good Dutch food choice if you are In Amsterdam

This was truly a special and memorable meal for our family. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. The restaurant is gorgeous, dish after dish was spectacular and beautifully presented, and above all else the customer service was 5 star. Thank you for making our celebration so wonderful!

Went to this restaurant on recommendation from our hotel. It was worth it. The ambiance was good, food was fantastic and service came with good advice on cuisine and a show for presentation. It’s pricey but if you’re looking for a nice meal, this is the spot.

Superb experience. Even for experienced travelers with exacting standards who typically lean toward high-end French cuisine, this was an absolute revelation. The meal easily rivaled—and perhaps surpassed—our favorite Parisian spots like 114 Faubourg, delivering a highly creative, artistic, and exceptionally tasteful culinary journey. What truly elevated the evening was the impeccable service, which managed to be perfectly intuitive while remaining entirely unobtrusive. A flawless and outstanding evening.

Beautiful interior, delicious food. However, the service was rather unprofessional. Our bill came to €225, of which 10% was a service charge. We paid cash, leaving €300. The waiter stood over us rather rudely after bringing us the bill, then rather rudely asked if she should bring us change. It's not the waiter's role to ask for change, but the customer's role to declare their willingness to leave an additional tip. We felt very uncomfortable with this situation. And I consider asking €100 for service on a €200 bill to be excessive. A little humility and courtesy in customer service would be expected in such a restaurant.

Not worth the price of the afternoon tea

Such a lovely experience celebrating my birthday here 🤍 The food, atmosphere, and service were all amazing. We didn’t even order dessert, but they kindly surprised us with a complimentary sweet treat for my birthday which made the night extra special. We had such a wonderful dinner experience at The Duchess. The dishes were exceptional and absolutely delicious, especially: * Sea Bass Carpaccio * Escargot * Veal Special * Spaghetti Beluga * Rosti The drinks were also very refreshing, especially the Virgin Mango Mule. The service was fast and outstanding. They even surprised us with a lovely celebration for the occasion I mentioned when we first arrived completely complimentary from the restaurant. Special thanks to Rosa for her kindness and excellent hospitality.

One of the most beautiful restaurants in all of Europe! The food is EQUALLY EXCELLENT! From our warm greeting from Teresa to the attentive service from Natalia the Duchess was a hit with our group. The food is next level in terms of creativity, presentation and how delicious it all was! Regrettably there was no room for dessert :( Definitely a culinary hit in Amsterdam :)

The food was good - we ordered the ribeye homemade pasta and the sole - both were great as was the tuna tartar. The view of the chefs in the kitchen was not flattering though

We were sitting at the bar for about 40 minutes and weren’t helped at all. Eventually we received the menu, but the food took a very long time to arrive. We ordered cocktails—both the same one, one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic. My friend does not drink alcohol, yet he was served the alcoholic version and felt uncomfortable because of it. I, on the other hand, ordered the alcoholic one but received a non-alcoholic drink. We reported this to the bartender, but he was quite rude. He didn’t fix the mistake, didn’t apologize, and even left the incorrect drinks on the bill instead of removing them. We also ordered a steak as a main course. It tasted good, but again, it took a very long time. Overall, the service was extremely, extremely poor. Definitely not recommended, and I will never come back.

The service and atmosphere were great but the food was disappointing. The pastry on the Wellington was so undercooked it was still stretchy. I was very excited to try it and ended up with a mouth full of raw/soggy dough. The meat inside of it was spot on though. The potato rosti was so incredibly salty we couldn't even finish half of it. The broccolini was also beyond charred, just tasted burned. The chocolate dream dessert was ruined by the cocoa nib icecream in the middle that tainted everything. It was almost salty for some reason, miso maybe? The best part of the food was the lamb and it's not even close. The rest of the food was definitely made with high quality ingredients but they weren't handled very well. I don't think I'd come back here, not for the food at least.

We had an exceptional dining experience at The Duchess in the W Hotel Amsterdam. We visited on April 8, and our waitress Sarah took outstanding care of us throughout the evening. Her attention, timing, and warm personality elevated the entire experience. The food and drinks were just as impressive. We enjoyed beautifully crafted cocktails and wine, followed by a perfectly cooked lamb rack, flavorful sea bass, fresh salads, and a delicious dessert to finish. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The atmosphere, service, and cuisine all came together to create a truly memorable night in Amsterdam. Highly recommend The Duchess for anyone looking for a refined and enjoyable dining experience.

Me and my girlfriend decided to get a high tea reservation at the duchess. We arrived on time and the first two rounds came in fine. 30 minutes or so apart. Then other people started pouring in. I guess the kitchen was masking sure they are brought up to the same plates because from round two to round three we had to wait 1 hour. Then again another 45 min for the last rounds.

We had dinner at the Chef Table and it was an absolute blast! Lovely food and service. Those spaghetti with caviar are unbeatable! We will def come back!

We came as a big group and really enjoyed this place. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was kind and attentive, and the food was genuinely delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor, and we had such a nice, relaxed time together. For our final dinner on my daughter’s Spring Break trip, we went to The Duchess . . . and this was easily the fanciest dinner we had all week. The girls were dressed for it, and it definitely felt like a “last night of the trip” kind of place. We did have my friend’s younger son with us, and while the restaurant leans more toward young adults and adults, it was totally fine and we had no issues. As you’d expect, the food was top-notch and the service was what you’d expect from a place like this. My daughter’s friend has a severe fish and nut allergy, so we made sure to communicate that upfront. For most of the evening, they were very attentive and accommodating, which we appreciated. There was one moment worth mentioning . . . a runner brought over a dish, and when I asked if it was safe for her, he said yes. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication, and it turned out to be tuna tartare, which we initially thought was steak tartare. She took a bite, and it definitely gave us a scare. Thankfully, she took her allergy medication right away, and everything ended up being okay. I chalk it up to the nature of a high-end restaurant with multiple servers and runners, but it’s something to be mindful of, especially when dealing with serious allergies. Outside of that . . . fantastic meal, beautiful venue, and a great way to end the trip. I’ll definitely be back . . . just a little more vocal about allergies next time, and I’d recommend the same to anyone visiting.

Perfect place to have great meal in the city centre of Amsterdam.

The steak was insane! 💛 The salad was wow! We didn't like the spaghetti. Thanks to the waiter, Gregr. He speaks Italian, Dutch, and English, and amazingly, he also speaks Modern Standard Arabic.

Nice place, super delicious high tea, friendly staff. The only downside was the piano and the music; it was very loud.

Lovely looking place and although it was quite empty we were sat at the bar area, which normally is fine. However the waiters walked behind us to get to the kitchen and the bar and brushed by us all the time which did get bit annoying. The bartender was nice and made us the drinks we asked for although they were not on the menu.

Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere and even better service. Gregor was not only an attentive waiter, he took his time to give recommendations and even told us the history of the restaurant being a bank. Each food item we had was better than the last and he didn't steer us wrong. We had the scallops (get them. They are to die for) and the prawns which were some of our favorite and the beef Wellington and seafood salad where nothing short of phenomenal. Don't even get me started on the mashed potatoes. From starters to main courses to dessert, it was a perfect experience.

A very nice restaurant right in the center of Amsterdam. We ordered a few dishes, a salad and then went straight to the main course. The beef with tagliatelle was absolutely delicious, and every time I go, I end up ordering the same dish. The staff were very polite. I would recommend making a reservation to be sure you get a table.

The food, place and service all top notch! Really unique place and food

Great service and tasty food in an heritage location. Beef Wellington was just perfect, didn’t like much the caviar pasta that tasted too much like spring onions. In the menu is written beluga caviar but I’m not sure it is. I might be wrong but to my humble experience beluga caviar isn’t that deep black color like the one served. Maybe was just the light reflection.

A good restaurant in a former bank. Our table was so large that we could hardly talk to each other over the loud music and the other guests.

High tea at Duches was truly wonderful, a truly special experience! It's a bit pricey, but you get so much food that it's totally worth it. We were stuffed and even took desserts home with us. Absolutely delightful!

First of all, the food had a strange oily smell that was very unpleasant; we couldn't eat some of it, and it even clung to our clothes. The service was quite poor considering the prices; we were not satisfied. If you're someone who has traveled and seen the world, I'm sure you wouldn't be satisfied either. It's clear why the star rating was revoked.

I spent a long time debating how many stars to give my last visit – after careful consideration, I decided on a maximum of two stars. Reasons: For the price, one would definitely expect better quality across the board: food, service, ambiance, etc. And unfortunately, none of the above points met my expectations, given that this restaurant once had a Michelin star (but conversely, I also understand why it only "once" had a Michelin star). 1. A meat main course costs around €40. I chose lamb for my main course. It actually tasted good, but well, the presentation on the plate? I could have made it myself at home. And a cocktail costs around €20; the glass had no garnish whatsoever, which you can usually get at other bars or restaurants for around €10. If I absolutely had to mention any highlights, then the appetizer of scallops and truffle mashed potatoes would be just about acceptable. 2. The service, unfortunately, doesn't sound at all like a fine-dining establishment. The staff were friendly, but overall, they gave me the impression that the place was hectic. Normally, at a fine-dining establishment, especially at such high prices, you'd expect at least one dedicated member of staff to present the dishes to the guest calmly and without any rush. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. 3. Ambiance: It was simply too loud for me. It reminded me of a train station or airport restaurant. All in all, I was more than disappointed. For the price, there are definitely better places in the area. And finally, a friendly reminder: while the restaurant is located in the W Hotel, it is neither operated nor managed by W itself. End of discussion.

I was very disappointed with most of the food. Judging on other restaurants in Amsterdam. Pasta quite mediocre, starter bread stale, mash potatoes boring… regarding service, friendly but when I pointed out that I didn’t get what I ordered, different sauce as they explained I will get, they got defensive and tried to convince me that is “similar”. Absolutely no idea what they were talking. For this price, disappointing.

very classy and elegant restaurant— perfect for a special evening out: high ceilings, majestic lights, elegant decor. The staff were friendly, attentive, although a bit amateur in the context of fine dining. Ex: they would serve first the guest who tasted the wine bottle, or they would do big pours, or they would bring plates for sharing but only place 1 on the table and leave the other 3 on the bar to go fetch something else… The food was delicious and beautifully presented, with the overall quality and flavors were impressive. Note that the food is meant to be shared. That’s why the menu states that plates will come out as they are ready: everyone should try everything that’s ready. If there’s one thing you should try it’s the chateaubriand. And the Camembert cheesecake.

Lovely trendy restaurant in Amsterdam . Great atmosphere , good music and excellent service. Deserts are huge and great to share . Some good starters . Cocktails are ok , I ordered an espresso martini and it felt like there was no alcohol. The chicken is very average , certainly not a dish to recommend.

What's great about this restaurant is the consistent quality. You know exactly what to expect, and it delivers every time. Good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and a team that knows what they're doing. No major surprises, but that's precisely why they're so reliable.

Everything about the duchess was outstanding. The service was top tier, the lighting and ambiance of the restaurant was something I have never seen before. Dim and romantic but a stream of light passed through the center of each table so you could see your meal and read your menu perfectly. The green goddess salad, truffle risotto, beef Wellington, and roasted chicken was splendid. A true fine dining experience- I wish e had saved room for dessert because the ice cream cart and chocolate bomb looked amazing!

Over priced what they served , not worth . Pasta was cold - no flavour . Chicken was pink on the bone - I mean this is my experience . For someone it’s Amazing - am a good traveler. Cocktails was ok - server is great .

The shop is amazing with marble inside, high ceiling emblematic, the service very good, all of them professionals, the music was relaxed and there was a live girl playing the violin, we went before the time change with a price of 195 per person and an extra drink, the charge also included the tip, let's get to the important thing which is the flavors, I can't say that I ate something and went crazy that I hadn't eaten before, it was delicious, well cooked, it was hot, but I was expecting something exceptional, maybe I had high expectations because of the price, I would go back to try it on a normal day with a different menu. Conclusion, if you want a good atmosphere, relaxed music, good environment and good food you can go, I believe that they need to work on the intensity of the dishes and the flavors.

Amazing experience at THE DUCHESS. I was there with my wife and a friend and we loved every minute. The setting is one of the most beautiful in Amsterdam, and the food matches the vibe perfectly. Highly recommended for a high-end night out!

Loved all the plates we had! Our waiter did such a good job helping us picking our plates based on our likings. The brioche bread they bring to you as a welcome with the Greek olive oil is so tasty. We also loved the crème brûlée!

This place is not deserving of their rating and resting on their past for sure. Had a knife that would not even slice my broccoli. Poor service and we were left alone for 15 minutes without any attention to issues we had with our meal. Small portions and super high prices relative to portion that make this place poor value. Had the nerve to charge a mandatory server charge as an add on which to be honest was not worth the service. I would not waste my time or money coming here especially when there are much better places in Amsterdam deserving of your business.

Overall it was a very nice experience. We were with a party of five and ordered 5 starters, 5 mains and 4 sides. This was plenty for us. Call me a simple man but the regular mashed potatoes in combination with the gravy that comes with the entrecote is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Great night, great food, great drinks. Would come again 😊

Good food but disappointing menu arrangement for Christmas, with waiters that wanted to rush us through the dinner as fast as possible. We had to ask 3 times to have more time between courses. Plates were cold, chinaware looked like it came from the Amsterdam university canteen, very disappointing experience despite some excellent dishes, from a food preparation perspective (most dishes were excellent but overall I would say not well balanced between proteins, fat and acidity, not a single salad leaf or anything seen to balance the arrangement of otherwise very well executed dishes). Also bringing us a single plate of pasta as part of a course and telling 5 people this was for sharing was unacceptable… poor execution of a festive event, I would never come back.. Such a shame and doesn’t reflect well on the W Hotel even if it’s operated by an independent. On the picture you can see the tiny plate the “hero” piece of the meal was served on… let you be the judge of that…

An amazing place for lunch or dinner with quality!

Had lunch with a family of four on December 24, 2025. The atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious. We had the tuna tartare, spaghetti with caviar, tagliatelle cacio e pepe, sea bass carpaccio, and the baby eel aglio olio. They were delicious! We also received two rolls with spreads on the house. The service was friendly! Next time I'll try the high tea. It looked really good too!

This is a restaurant serving fairly decent food in a beautiful grand setting with a glitzy interior and lovely views onto a historic street, with service a very mixed bag. We did the afternoon tea package which was fairly good quality and value. The savoury course we found much nicer than the sweets. We appreciated that there was a full vegetarian menu. The live piano music throughout was a great touch. We found our two waitresses in the dining area lovely to deal with, however unfortunately had a poor experience from the host at the entrance who greeted us - she had an unwelcoming attitude and made us stand around for a long time, clearly in no rush to get us comfortable. This is an area for improvement. The only other thing which could be improved was the toilets which were not in a clean and regularly maintained state - paper towels overflowing bins etc. Overall it was a mixed experience, saved by the tasty savoury sandwiches and our lovely waitresses! I’m not sure we would recommend it or rush back, but it was nice for an end of holiday stop relatively near Central station.

I selected the “Anniversary” option in my reservation, and without saying a word they surprised us with a lovely treat complete with a little sparkler. Such a thoughtful touch! Definitely a great recommendation if you’re celebrating something special.

These were the best cocktails I've had in a long time. I was particularly pleased with the approach of the mustachioed gentleman at the bar. Congratulations to the management!

Best Beef Wellington in the city!

They ridiculously cancelled our reservation, which we made two days ago, an hour before we were due to arrive, saying they had no space. They ruined our whole plan. When a large group arrives, they don't take your plans seriously and cancel reservations arbitrarily. Be careful.

Some of the dishes were lovely, but on the whole for the money you spend it’s not worth it. Better places to eat for less money in the city.

Amazing atmosphere and wonderful service! Our Ukrainian waitress was very informative and attentive, and the hostess at the front was super lovely, taking care of all our coats. The team at Duchess is incredible with organizing groups — emails were responded to promptly, and they were very accommodating. I would happily host another event here in the future. The only tiny critique is that the sweets for afternoon tea weren’t my favorite, but the scone was absolutely incredible — 11/10! And I make my own scones, so that says a lot 😄. Overall, a fantastic experience!

This place is worth going to for a nice dinner. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is a plate share dinning experience. We wanted our plates to not share and they accommodate the request for us.

The building is beautiful. The cocktails are fantastic. If those could indicate the rest of the meal I’d be thrilled but unfortunately that isn’t the case. It’s a pricey place and you expect a certain effort and consideration in skill. Honestly- The food is poorly presented, prepared, and served. The escargot we ordered was chewy and flavorless - not enjoyable. The entrees were okay at best. The service was okay - everyone clearly tried their best. For a moderately pricey dinner - my expectations were moderately unmet.

The Duchesse is an absolutely excellent dining experience! The dishes are flavorful and generously portioned, perfect for those with a hearty appetite. The setting is beautiful, elegant, and welcoming, ideal for a memorable meal.
