Just had a drink. Friendly service and an excellent location.

English-speaking staff. Very small portions. Quite pricey!

As Germans, we didn't feel welcome among the many Dutch people. Our order was taken rudely and only brought to our table after everyone else had ordered, even though others had ordered after us. We won't be coming back here, especially since it's very expensive.

Had a delicious meal, good service. Generous portions. A beautiful terrace with a view of Hollum.

I have rarely eaten anywhere where the staff walked around so uncoordinatedly. Everything was asked four times, literally. Meanwhile, our glasses sat empty for a good half hour. Quite impressive, actually. Perhaps the staff should focus a bit more on the guests and a bit less on each other. The food was fine, but the price-quality ratio is really not right. My main course also came with a very meager bowl of fries. In the end, we got something to eat somewhere else because I still wasn't full after my main course (and I am a light eater). Price Additionally, the crème brûlée was very poorly caramelized. Unfortunately, not recommended for us.

I have never left a review before, but I have to write this one. I just paid 90 euros for myself and 3 children, and I am now sitting in the cafeteria because my children aren't full. I have never had such small portions in a restaurant but paid so much. 27 euros for 8 spare ribs and fewer fries than you get at the cafeteria. 11 euros for a child's portion of kibbeling: 3 small pieces of kibbeling and a few fries. After 45 minutes, we were back outside😅. I mentioned it to the English-speaking staff, but I don't think I was taken very seriously. It might be our fault because I expected all bad reviews, but for us, once is enough, never again.

A beautiful little restaurant in town with a lovely atmosphere and incredibly friendly service. The food was fantastic, especially the Zwanen Burger I ordered – it was a work of art. We'll definitely be back!

Plain pancake half burnt, ordered chicken satay twice. Both raw. We also ordered a Zwanenburger, which was raw as well. There was also a pregnant lady with us who had ordered the Zwanenburger. And she had to mention herself that she is pregnant and that the meat needs to be well-done. (She is 30+ weeks pregnant) terrible! A plus point, however, is that the fries here are fine.

Nice ambiance, many original details. Maybe not hip, but surprising because of that. Simple menu, but everything was prepared well. The service was excellent; the ladies paid attention to us, and we felt perfectly at ease. Finally: the prices are reasonable too!

Great place for lunch. The menu features mainly classic dishes. The decor is quite old-fashioned. It's a matter of taste, of course, but time has stood still here for decades. Excellent service.

We ordered kibbeling for about 20 euros... what was served was a portion that was worth... if that... 10 euros... despite the friendly service and nice atmosphere, we cannot recommend it...

I could make this a long story, but I'll keep it short. This is a top-notch restaurant! With excellent service and an extremely friendly, relaxed atmosphere. You'll definitely be back.

We eat here every year, but this time we were disappointed with the food. The appetizers (bread platter and soup of the day) were okay, but the fish of the day with white wine sauce unfortunately tasted more like flour than wine, and the burger had a better texture in previous years. It's a shame, really; we remembered it so well.

Had lunch on the terrace, croquettes on bread, so nothing can go wrong with that, and it was excellent. Affordable prices.

The terrace was pleasant. We were served by a woman who only spoke English. A bit of a shame if you're a Belgian looking for a Dutch atmosphere. The food was bland and too little for the price. The kibling was overcooked. Far too few fries. The food on the plate seemed to have been simply thrown on, with no attractive arrangement or extra decoration. It was okay for a quick bite, but I wouldn't go there again.

The Dying Swan? This inn has a brown café-like charm that I personally appreciate. The prices on the menu are reasonably affordable, but don't expect haute cuisine here; the food is more on the level of a traditional pub. Price and quality aren't quite in balance, as what's on your plate sometimes feels a bit overpriced. The service, on the other hand, is extremely friendly. A nice place to visit once, but not one I'd necessarily return to.

Stopped in for coffee and apple tart on during a walk through Hollum. Very friendly service and the apple tart was great. Nice atmospheric old place - be sure to look in on the ‘historic room’.

We don't quite understand the positive reviews. The mustard soup for the starter was certainly decent, but what's called boeuf bourguignonne here is, at best, a bland goulash dish. The ricotta and spinach ravioli also had no flavor; the sauce was thickened with chunky vegetables, an insult. At €75 for two people, it's a salutary lesson: We won't be coming back here again.

At the beginning of the season, at least that's how it felt, probably not enough staff and very messy inside.

Located in the center of Hollum in an authentic building and also beautifully and classically decorated inside. The service was friendly and could easily speak both Dutch and German. In terms of food, we ate well and enough and it was also brought to the table quite quickly, so you certainly don't have to wait long! In short, an ideal restaurant in a beautiful building that is also well located in Hollum!

In the middle of the square in Hollum is the inn De Zwaan. Enjoyed lunch here. The sun was already shining through. So we sat on the outside terrace. We all went for the croquette sandwiches. Unfortunately, the shrimp croquette was a bit disappointing.

I was not on site, I only ordered the Zwanebitter over the telephone. Everything was arranged super quickly and neatly, friendly and super service. Thanks again 🤩

Yesterday, 5 people ordered hot chocolate with whipped cream and rum. Took a long time to be served. It turned out to be a glass of lukewarm water with powder stirred into it. Much of the pepper lay on the bottom or stuck to the glass. Whipped cream in a separate container a little later. The complaints were answered with “apologies”. But pay everything. And that for €8 per glass. Owner, if you are reading along, chocolate milk for € 3.80 on the menu must be real chocolate milk and not water with powder. Let's see next year to see if anyone listens.

We had a delicious meal with the five of us tonight, delicious Deer Goulash, but especially the pleasant hostesses made our evening in the inn complete. 🙏🏼 The bike ride back in the dark to Ballum went great, we didn't go off track😉

We were served by an woman that appears to be in charge, maybe the manager. She served us very well. Smiling, kind and not judgemental. We are a couple that can attract some attention and many times the simpletons that are everywhere have their eyes of judgement ready, what really means envy so I always smile when I see it. Imagine the dull and boring lives of those kind of people. But this service didn't had that, she gave us the feeling of being very welcome. Refreshing. Usually behavior like that gets rewarded with tip, however the food prices were already to steep to tip and the taste and quality is average. Ambiance is good, large place, plenty choice for seating. If you have the time, worth while to have a short visit. Parking is a short walk away though.

Hi, unfortunately always great but now unfortunately not satisfied. Had a salmon sandwich and partner had a cream pate sandwich. The buns were so hard (old) that it could not be cut or chewed.

Mediocre, first I had a bottle of coke thrown over me, for which the staff (who are not very friendly) gave me a wet cloth and a dirty kitchen towel in return. The food was tasty, although our drinks were not passed on properly. When I asked for some compensation I was told it was so good and I just had to pay for the coke and everything. I'll look further next time.

Drinks were taken, then we were very rudely thrown out because the kitchen was too full. You could have said it from the start. Very bad review!

Rustic, cozy, very nice staff, quick and on the ball, food, a dream! We were here twice in a row, really very tasty, portions were sufficient! Just great!!!!

The service was unreasonably slow. We waited an hour for our food and the only dish that arrived was our soup appetizer, which was served more than 30 minutes after we ordered. We ended up choosing to leave because our main dishes still hadn’t arrived by the time other guests, who were seated long after us, had already been served — and finished eating!

Historisches Haus mit Geschichte

Wat een fijne plek om lekker te eten! Mooi oud pand,sfeervol. Erg vriendelijk personeel dat ons welkom liet voelen. Hondvriendelijk. Het eten was lekker en prima geprijsd. Een plek om naar terug te keren bij ieder Ameland bezoek!

Food was absolutely amazing and the service very nice. We were sitting outside and were lucky with the weather, the outside sitting had a great atmosphere.

Prijs kwaliteit is prima. Moesten alleen heel lang wachten op ons eten. Drankjes daarin tegen werden snel bezorgd.

Herberg de Zwaan, een heerlijke lunch gegeten voor niet te veel geld.

Sehr freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Auch zu späten Stunde wurden wir freundlich bedient und das Essen war sehr schmackhaft. Hunde willkommen. Immer wieder gerne.

Service is uitstekend. sfeer is ook prima, je kunt er een potje biljarten, we komen al jaren op Ameland en hebben bij de zwaan altijd heerlijk gegeten maar vandaag was de saté menu - snitsels menu- en de kibbeling veel te hard gebakken. Dus alles nogal droog van binnen.

Heerlijk gegeten, was meer dan voldoende eten. Binnen aan de warme kant, kon geen raam open. Veel vliegen.

Erg tevreden! De ontvangst was vriendelijk, ook fijn dat de hond werd toegelaten. De lunch smaakte erg goed, en was binnen redelijke tijd gereserveerd. De bediening was gezellig, alleen de glazen hadden sneller terug genomen kunnen worden.

Sehr gutes Tagesmenü. Sehr frisches Gemüses. Auch die Karte ist gut überschaubar, aber gleichzeitig abwechslungsreich. Insgesamt alles top, was das Essen und den Service angeht. Ambiente könnte noch einen kleinen Gang zulegen. Hier fehlte uns der letzte Feinschliff bzgl. notwendiger moderner Eingriffe.

Hele vriendelijke bediening. Ik had de bisque en die was ontzettend lekker. Later had ik ook nog een super versgeperste jus, erg lekker! Herberg de Zwaan raad ik zeker aan als je trek hebt in iets lekkers!

Wij hebben het ontzettend naar onze zin gehad bij Herberg de Zwaan. We hebben hier een drankje gedaan en zijn buitengewoon verrast. Zeer vriendelijke en gastvrije dames in de bediening. We komen hier zeker vaker! Groetjes, Nienke en Angelique
