Nice, traditional Italian meals. Good atmosphere. Very popular. Good wine list.

Out with good friends, full house. Good food, but have tasted better Tiramisu (this one too creamy and not enough "cake" and coffee flavor). Our charming and skilled waiter made an extra effort, very informative about the choice of both food and drinks, beyond the menu.

There is a reason why it is hard to get a table here! Classic Italian food at a decent price.

Hands down the best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. I went here with colleagues, and the photos are absolutely stunning. The restaurant does operate on a shift basis, and reservations are essential.

Good Italian good especially for Amsterdam, also good prices. I will give it 3 stars just because the staf made me and my friend feel unwelcome, i understand maybe they slect thier clients but we are just some normal people and we where treated with arrogance .

A classic, nothing has changed 18 years later. Nostalgic. It used to be a real leader in Amsterdam and remains a fantastic place for a lovely evening. The service, in particular, is still excellent. However, the quality and selection of restaurants in Amsterdam have improved so much that Toscanini needs to be more inventive and cook at a higher level of quality to be considered a top restaurant in Amsterdam and rekindle that old magic.

Today I ate at Toscanini for the first time with my wife and two friends. We've been married for fourteen years, and my wife has been talking about this place for at least ten. It's truly shameful that I never took her here before. We're true foodies, born and raised in Amsterdam, and over the years we've eaten everywhere in the city. From high-end to low-end, from new to classic. But somehow, Toscanini never made it. And wow, I regret not having been here before. Everything is perfect. The atmosphere, the restaurant, the acoustics, the food—phenomenal. It feels like you're in Italy for a moment. No clichés, just truly good food prepared with love and craftsmanship. The service was sublime, professional, warm, and genuinely friendly. Toscanini is without a doubt one of the few places in Amsterdam that completely lives up to what everyone has been saying for years. We'll definitely be back.

There's a spice in the red meat that doesn't suit our palate. It ruins the flavor incredibly. Other than that, everything we ate was delicious. The desserts were also delicious. You can see the menu, food photos, and the bill in the pictures.

Toscanini is, without a doubt, a culinary institution in Amsterdam, and for good reason. My recent visit was an absolute delight, cementing its reputation as one of the city's better Italian dining experiences. From the moment we were seated to the last sip of wine, the entire evening was great and full of wonderful service. The appetizers set an incredibly high bar. The octopus was simply phenomenal. It was tender, perfectly charred, and seasoned with a precision that highlighted its delicate, natural flavour rather than masking it. It was, as I noted, "extremely nice," which is an understatement, it was a perfect start. For the main courses, I chose lamb and the kalfszwezerik (veal sweetbreads). Both dishes were equally breathtaking. The lamb was succulent, falling apart under the slightest pressure, its rich, gamy flavour complemented by robust accompaniments. The kalfszwezerik, a dish that demands an expert touch, was cooked to absolute perfection, crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside, and profoundly flavourful. These mains were the heart of the meal, demonstrating the kitchen's serious commitment to quality ingredients and classic Italian technique. The wine selection was equally impressive. We ordered a red wine (forgot the name) which was amazing, pairing beautifully with the intensity of the lamb and the richness of the veal. The service deserves a special mention. It was great, attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. Our server was able to articulate the menu, offer insightful suggestions, and ensure our glasses were never empty, contributing significantly to the overall luxurious feeling of the evening. The only slight dip in an otherwise flawless meal was the dessert: While technically fine, it was a bit bland/boring compared to the explosive flavours of the preceding courses. It lacked the same spark and complexity, feeling like a safe end to a meal that had been anything but boring. However, this minor point does not detract from the fact that Toscanini serves genuinely great food in a wonderful atmosphere. It is a vibrant, authentic, and utterly charming restaurant that delivers an unforgettable dining experience. It's the kind of place you book weeks in advance and happily anticipate. Highly, highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, top-tier Italian cuisine in Amsterdam. Rating: 5/5 Stars

I've eaten there twice recently, and both meals were fantastic with excellent service. I highly recommend it.

Delicious Italian specialties, everything homemade. The desserts are very good. They also have a great wine list. They also have a deli next door where you can buy specialties to make at home.

I made an early reservation to ensure a smooth dining experience, but upon arrival (7:15 pm) we were told there was no record of our booking. This was not only disappointing but felt unfair, especially given the unfriendly attitude of the staff when addressing the issue. A few blocks later we find best place for dinner and friendly staff.

I had high expectations because it's always very busy. The food is okay. Good value for money.

What a terrible place. It takes way too long. No service, too busy to even speak to anyone. Waiting two hours for an appetizer? Absolutely outrageous that it can take that long. It's also incredibly expensive for what you get. Truly outrageous. Save yourself the trouble for this pretentious Amsterdam place.

It's such a shame to have a delicious lunch for two in such a place for €200, only to see on your receipt that you have to pay an extra €6 each for a bottle of sparkling (tap) water. It's a shame, it doesn't feel hospitable. Just offer it!

We had dinner at Toscanini yesterday. The food and drinks were delicious. Compliments to Lou, he was very hospitable and explained the dishes with enthusiasm. He also recommended a nice bottle of wine that paired perfectly with our dishes.

Best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam (perhaps even the Netherlands). Price/quality is excellent. Portions are excellent. The appetizer and main course are usually a generous portion. The wine list is masterful. Real gems. Excellent service. Efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. Reservations are impossible (more than two months in advance). Arriving around 9:30 PM for a last-minute table is often the best option. Fortunately, they're open until around midnight.

We had Tzvika service us. What a lovely person. He made all the difference. We will come back just for him. If you go there ask to seat where he is servicing. Amazing food, amazing recommendations by the staff for food and wine. The place is pricey but worth every euro....

The review below was initially shared only with Toscanini. No response (after 11 days), so I've made it public: The food was great, but we weren't impressed with the service. We arrived, were shown to our table, and then had to wait 5 minutes for our first contact with our server. Then we waited 10 minutes for our drinks (Crodini & Negroni) while we watched the bar staff chatting happily. I had informed them in advance that I was pregnant (31 weeks, so it was noticeable) and that it was also my birthday. This information hadn't been read, and I had to constantly check what I could/couldn't eat. I expected the server to proactively mention this for me (my experience in restaurants so far) and at least make a note about my birthday. The red wine was served far too warm (25+ degrees Celsius), which made my boyfriend slightly unwell. There were errors on the bill (after asking for it twice), to which the server replied: "Yeah, I wasn't sure." We thought, "Check it with us then." Instead of leaving the wrong items on our bill. And only after paying/when we got up was a comment made about my pregnancy. Too late, as far as I'm concerned. You have to make a reservation at Toscanini exactly one month in advance, so expectations were high (a bit like Zoldering/De Kas), and unfortunately, I found it a bit disappointing. I don't know if we'll return; there are plenty of good Italian restaurants in Amsterdam. The service is worth it.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner and we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Our lovely waiter suggested we talk to the sommelier about our wine for the night. That is when it went wrong, the sommelier had a very condescending attitude and the whole interaction with him literally brought me to tears. Other than that Toscanini is an amazing restaurant :)

The best Italian in the Netherlands!

We came on the hottest day of the year with reservations at 6:00. There was NO air conditioning and only high ceiling fans so high you can’t feel the breeze. It was unbearably uncomfortable- why didn’t you bring in some fans and put them in each corner of the room? I really felt for the cooks and all kitchen/dining room staff. The food was very good and drinks as well- but I don’t understand why you didn’t bring in fans.

Once again I didn’t get a hype. It’s probably a place for “right” people, from the neighborhood, a place to be to belong to a certain community. You can definitely recognize local Jordaan people from the general crowd. Ok, what’s about the food? Mediocre. My pesce alla messinese was tasty, but nothing really worth 33 euro. The tagliatelle alla ragú di coniglio was under salted. I do understand that there were anchovies and olives but they didn’t make up for the missing salt during the boiling process. We had to wait 30 minutes for our food even though our neighbors were served twice at the same time. The waitress took our bottle of water and refilled it without asking and charged us 6 euros for an untouched water that we didn’t plan to drink. Though the wine cart was really good. I enjoyed my prosecco and white wine.

BOOOOOOO! Learn how to be a good person and a good neighbor to your community and customers. We live across from this restaurant and have for many years enjoyed having the staff as neighbors. Unfortunately, I recently had an extremely aggressive and unnecessarily hostile experience with the owner Maud. I politely emailed and asked her to turn off the street organ they’d been blasting during an otherwise peaceful Sunday afternoon. Of course some noise is always expected on our busy and vibrant Lindengracht, but I explained to her that this noise coming from her terrace was excessive and severely affecting my ability to work. Instead of a neighborly response one would expect from a business that’s meant to specialize in hospitality, Maud (who I’ve never met before despite being her customer and neighbor for years) proceeded to not only refuse to do anything about the blaring noise then or in the future, but also stated that I was no longer welcome at the restaurant. She then had the street organ continue play on. I could’ve just called the police like many other neighbors did that day, considering Maud was blatantly breaking the law blasting a street organ for multiple hours in the same spot. However, I thought it’d be better to email the restaurant directly and have a conversation. I’ve learned my lesson and next time I will call the gemeente directly instead of expecting a neighborly exchange with Toscanini. And if you’re wondering about the food — no great chef lacks a sense of humor or empathy.

I felt the need to write a comment in case there are Turks coming. We went to an Italian restaurant hoping to eat nice pasta etc. but that was not the case. We ordered chicken, it was too spicy and we couldn't eat it. I think it is very out of our taste. I don't think it is worth these prices.

Toscanini has been on our wish list for a long time because we have been cooking from their cookbook: Pasta for years. In addition, we have been getting our Italian wines from Enoteca Sprezzatura for years. We also bought the cookbook here. The lunch was great! What a beautiful place, good and friendly service and the dishes were delicious! You feel like you are somewhere else than in Amsterdam. The wine list is beautiful and extensive and we were well advised about the wines. We will definitely come back! Arrivederci!

Well rounded experience with main and dessert staring the show! Speak easy, cozy and definitely clean place with straight view of the open kitchen. Everyone super friendly and professional yet the service without even full house on lunch, missing bullet points on attentiveness! We had to ask for water and wine refills - not in our glasses, on the table! It’s a family vibe so don’t assume silver service!

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Firstly, the food was very mediocre - for the price you pay the food was quite bland. I ordered the pasta Amatriciana, which I thought was a simple and easy dish to make that could be turned into something delicious and flavoursome. However, it was quite the opposite of this, instead there was a lack of creativity or authenticity to the dish. This counted for the other duck tagliatelle dish, which was also very bland. Secondly, I noticed one of the owners walking around the restaurant seemed to have had one too many drinks. He came to our table and put down the Parmesan cheese on our table once we all finished eating - he even admitted that it was too late to give it but he still found it appropriate to leave it on our table. I found this quite unprofessional to be frank. And to add to this, we noticed a staff member pouring glasses of wine back into a wine bottle. I found this quite surprising as this was done in a very noticeable place where guests could see this happening. In general, the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and quite cosy. The crowd is nice and if I could come back for just drinks I would, however I didn’t think the food was worth it.

meh. Not not enough food, some people went home hungry. Serving staff should say if a pasta is a insufficient for an adult male. Tuna starter was swimming in olive oil with a tasteless piece of orange - needed some juice to give it a lift. The lamb shank was good but not as good as the beef ribs i made yesterday. It was a nice meal, with nice staff, but something was missing for me. Given how busy it was, it seems I’m in the minority!

We had a wonderful festive Easter lunch!

I went to an amazing dinner with a group of friends. Everyone (8 people) were super satisfied, despite that we took different options: fish, pork, vegetarian pasta and vegan pasta. Food was super tasty, from the starters through the mains, to the various desserts. Wine list is endless, our wine was great. I was the only vegan person but restaurant catered to it flawlessly. There was no vegan main in the menu but the staff suggested few options that could be made on the spot from which I could choose from. I had delicious artichoke pasta. That day they had vegan brownie so despite being full I found some space for this dessert and did not regret. Service was great, the food was coming slowly which gave us some time for digestion before the next “round”. We also got bread at the start and throughout the evening waiters were filling the drink water on our table.

Sat at the Chef’s Table up front. It was a perfect evening… spectacular menu, shared dessert with a former liefe, a charming server, Bobby. The owner Leo stopped to chat. Lovely, mooi…

Sadly, a big disappointment. I booked a table (and paid a deposit) counting on delicious Italian food and exceptional hospitality. Unfortunately, the entire experience since the first minute wasn’t great. We arrived on time and were asked to wait for our table (third ones in a row!) while it has been booked. What’s the point of reservation system if you need to wait to eat? We were eventually sited at the and the drinks were proposed to us - naively though it is a free option as a reward for waiting. No, it wasn’t. Next, the service is friendly but not exceptionally attentive or hospitable. I would expect more given the prices. When the waitress asks who ordered that dish, it is a level of bistro/ bar. Food. Biggest disappointment. Although beautifully presented and inviting with some creative combinations, it is simply not great cooking. We ordered a salad and burrata with a deep fried courgette flowers as starters, two types of pasta as mains, and truffle ice cream plus merengue for dessert. A salad was tasteless and bland, not 19€ dish. Burrata - a simple position that is hard to be spoiled - was a supermarket burrata, sour and bad quality product that has been masked with overdone seasoning - too much salt and soaked in an oil (didn’t even taste like an olive oil). A plus for courgette flower - nice addition, but would be better if any stuffing was there. Mains: both pastas were simply not good, neither true Italian (god forbid to say, Toscanini taste). Ravioli lacked any aroma (was supposed to be served in a butter and lemon sauce). Eadible, but nothing more. The other pasta (called alla Sicilians), seasoned with mackerel and fennel, was barely edible. Sour and salty only, no aroma, herbs, whatsoever was simply not good cooking. Thank god my partner was very hungry and decided to finish it instead of me. Desserts - tartuffo ice cream mainly sweet, no other experience or aroma. Merengue- okay, but that’s all. The only great point of the program was wine. We chose Lugana, and as much as almost 12 euros for a glass is on an expensive side, it was very good. Mineral, dry with an elegant deep taste. Others: plus for an ambient and hot water in the bathroom. Overall: I would like to give it a second chance as there are so many good reviews (maybe a chef had just a bad day), but I am hesitant to risk taking into account that this experiment costed us 150 euros for 2 ppl. For 25 euros more per person, you can get fine-dining experience that leaves you mind blown. Overpriced and overhyped.

They can have amazing dishes and the staff is nice and cordial. I never ordered pasta again as the quality and taste can change. However, I have reasons to think they discriminate a bit. I hope it’s not true. As reposting on social media I noticed being excluded while others are shown off on their page. It’s a very odd and sad thing to do. Giving high school mentally not developed kinda social media management. This isn’t the first or last restaurant. Maybe I am finally feeling how other Arabs feel. I will never forgot on my birthday walking out and their chef was looking with the most unfriendly eyes literally staring. Maybe I didn’t fit the average look of the people who can spend their hard worked money or given money on his slightly overpriced dishes. Are you able to withhold this? Then go as the staff is luckily for suited to broader range of guests. Not only middle aged, fair skin and coming weekly.

Ate at Toscanini last week- I had the ravioli and it was absolutely delicious!!! What a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. We were helped very well by Stella, what a cheerful and spontaneous lady. He also recommended a very nice wine for each course!

This is the second time I have visited this restaurant the first time was 3 years ago and I remembered it with very high standards. I was worried that after so much time I was going to be disappointed but it was just as I remembered it. Delicious, creative, cozy and fair prices. I would highly recommend it, however it is very difficult to get a table.

Beautiful place with a nice atmosphere. Service was fine. One man helped us very well, another colleague was less friendly and helpful. We found the food disappointing. None of the dishes were really tasty. The flavors were bland and at many times the dishes were unnecessarily greasy. Rarely have I eaten such fatty and tough veal cheek. We get the idea that Toscanini has a very good reputation, but that the actual quality is disappointing. You pay a lot for the name and the atmosphere, but we won't be back.

My main course turned out to be different from what was stated on the menu. This was not told to me by the staff. I thought that was a shame. The dish itself was okay. I really liked the atmosphere in the restaurant, partly due to the fact that there was no music playing. The food was not tasty.

The staff is unfriendly and strictly follows the rules. If you have made a reservation for 10 people and additional people arrive, they will be difficult. Statements such as 'we don't do group activities' are treated in an arrogant and unfriendly manner, making you feel like you should leave. The food is expensive, but unfortunately not tasty. Never again!

We were a group of 9, this was reserved well in advance. I called a few days in advance to ask if there are 10 of us, if this is okay. Didn't get a no with any form of hospitality, asked if there was another option but was immediately told 'I already told you it's not possible'. Once again proof of how arrogant and unfriendly restaurants in the city are becoming and how refreshing it can be if you receive good and friendly service. I have had a nice meal at Toscanini in the past, but after treating your 'guests' like this, this will remain the case.

One of my favourites in Amsterdam. It’s very very VERY hard to find good restaurants in this city… With great food, nice service and good ambience… This one thick all those boxes.

Accidentally made a reservation on the same day, and then immediately tried to call to cancel. Nobody picked up the phone for several hours and finally when I got through, I was told that they would not refund the down payment. I explained the situation but the person on the phone was very rude and claimed to have had the phone on him all day, thus implying I was lying. Finally convinced him to give me a refund, but this poor customer service certainly discourages me from trying the restaurant in the future. Too bad.

Review Toscanini Unfortunately we had little time, because we had to go to the Concertgebouw after dinner. Still, Toscanini made an impression! In the limited time we really enjoyed the refined Italian dishes, prepared with care and craftsmanship. Each dish was a party in itself: pure flavors, fresh ingredients and perfectly matched. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and authentic, just how you imagine a pleasant Italian evening. The service was friendly and took our time schedule into account without it feeling rushed. In short, highly recommended for anyone who loves real Italian cuisine. We will definitely come back, hopefully with more time to enjoy it longer!

We got a table after a few days on the waiting list and were full of anticipation. When we arrived on time it took about 30 minutes to get to our right place. We weren't offered a drink during that time. It also took another 20 minutes at the table until someone came to take an order. For the first 60 minutes in the restaurant there wasn't even any water. We ordered appetizers and a pasta dish each, the taste was average and none of us were really full, but we also had delicious homemade vanilla ice cream afterwards. That added up. In the end, the price, portion and performance were not right. Too bad. The location and the interior, however, were atmospheric.

Nice space, pleasant staff. First time for me, and I'm already very excited about the starter. In short, it leaves you wanting more and then a real review. All around me I hear nothing but praise.

Good sandwich. They brought me the wrong’s sandwich, but they did another one. Asked for tap water twice and they served me hot (not warm, hot water) 🥵

Extremely overrated italian restaurant. Dishes are very small and food taste is below average. I would not recommend to pay this price for this service and poor taste. Not recommended at all.

My boyfriend and I like to eat out often, Toscanini was honestly one of the best culinary experiences we have ever had. The food is delicious (we took a few of the suggestions and the panacotta is a must!!), the wine is top notch, the service and atmosphere are friendly. Highly recommended, nothing to complain about!
