Pleasant restaurant, tasty food, helpful staff

Food was nice. Service was fine. Atmosphere was loud and crappy especially if you're seated between tables.

We had dinner at Warna Baru on Sunday 13/7/25. The restaurant was very clean. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our drinks - Lemon Lemonade and Pineapple Lemonade - were delivered to our table without delay, were nicely chilled and refreshing. Our order of Sate Ayam, Rendang Daging, Rice and Nasi Goreng was taken and delivered to our table in an appropriate time. We have travelled to Indonesia on a number of occasions. We also regularly eat the Malaysian version of Beef Rendang both prepared at home and bought at Malaya Restaurant in Sydney. Our rating of the meals we ordered at Warna Baru are influenced by these experiences. Unfortunately, the Beef Rendang, Chicken Skewers and Nasi Goreng were average. The quality of our meals didn’t match the bill of 47 euros. Sadly, we can’t recommend eating at Warna Baru.

I rediscovered Indonesian cuisine at this restaurant, and I simply loved it! I loved the meats and the sauces, and discovered that the peanut butter sauce goes very well with vegetables! The waitresses are very friendly, too!

Great Indonesian food with some innovative cocktails. Welcoming staff that even played along with our toddler while we ate! Will definitely visit again.

Great food, but I think it's unacceptable not to serve sajoer lodeh (the only real vegetable dish on the menu) at 7pm on a Sunday.

We came to this restaurant for dinner, there were four of us. The place is nice, with plenty of seating and friendly staff. Ordering was easy, and the food arrived fairly quickly. The food itself was tasty and flavorful. The only small downside was that the portions were a bit small. I ordered a dish called Satè Ayam, which cost around €13.50, and I received four meat skewers with satay sauce. I was expecting a slightly more generous portion for that price. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

We had a really good time! Unfortunately we couldn’t choose for our favorite dish, daging rendang. My partner is allergic to some nuts and the chef didn’t know which ‘treenuts’ were used for the dishes (with a treenut symbol). Because of that, we couldn’t chose half of the dishes. Knowing the used ingredients would be even better for the transparancy! But the food we chose was very delicious and it reminded us of our lovely time in Indonesia.

I went with a large group of friends, and the service was impeccable. The staff consistently checked in to ensure we were satisfied, which made us feel truly valued as customers. The food, inspired by Indonesian cuisine, was absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back!

The atmosphere and service in this restaurant are excellent. But you mainly come for the food and that was disappointing. Made with little attention, the spring rolls were a bit burnt, the casava prawn crackers still had remnants of shrimp prawn crackers, the tofu satay had no taste and the fried banana had also been burnt, dry and without taste.

Tried five dishes, all excellent. Service could be faster but that's probably just a me problem.

Poor service. Some dishes were good like the sea bass but most were average at best. The dishes did not seem freshly prepared and some classics like beef rendang and gado gado were very below average. We ordered a lot of items to try and so expected to takeaway some of them. Turned out they had no takeaway boxes left, so we had to leave the leftovers behind and meant a lot of good food were going to waste. That really added to the disappointment. I hope they work on both the food quality and being better prepared for guests.

We got there just before 10:00 p.m., thinking we could quickly eat something in 20 minutes. We were told that this is no longer possible. Never experienced. Never again ! We had a very good meal at the Italian restaurant next door. He can only be recommended 😍

This was my third time at Warna Baru and I was not disappointed. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and engaging which made the experience so comfortable and inviting. The food was spectacular - we were worried we may have ordered too much for 3 (5 dishes and two sides), but we ate it all it was so delicious. Compliments to the chef(s) and staff! We will absolutely be back

The service is enthusiastic. Ate here for the second time (retake) yesterday. It is certainly not special: the rendang is dry and not very tasty, the jackfruit one was better. The gado gado soaked in satay sauce. We had a menu for 9 people for €30 pp; we got little for this price and not very varied.

Really very good food! The service was decent, but the sound was really terrible! It was completely packed and we sat at a bar table in the back! We couldn't even hear each other, there was so much noise. There were a lot of noisy tourists.

Nice little restaurant with the usual suspects on the menu but also dishes that are less often on the menu. Salamat makan!

Though told it was a small plates concept, we found the plates rather large and could have done with ordering less than the recommended 4 plates, but then we wouldn’t have been able to taste all those interesting dishes :-)

If you serve anything tapas-style (read: tiny portions, way overpriced), I don’t like you already. If on top of that the nasi goreng tastes old and is bone dry and the beef stew is tough and tastes like it was microwaved, then I feel compelled to write a review. For the price, I would expect freshly cooked and prepared. This place looks nice inside, but is just an overpriced version of any Indonesian takeout you can find in Amsterdam. Which serve way better food. Avoid.

I unfortunately didn’t have a great experience at this establishments the atmosphere and part of the food that we got served were great, but at the end me and my friends were really irritated and disappointed. When we arrived at the restaurant we had to wait for our table as they were preparing it, that was no issue for us and we waiting patiently. After we got seated we were excited to order our food, the only thing was that we had to wait almost 20 min before getting the menu. At the time it wasn’t that busy in the restaurant so it was quite odd that we had to wait for such a long time. After we finally flagged our server down she apologized and we finally got our menu. She offered us some free chips to apologize, that was really nice of her We chose an appropriate amount of food and all order almost the same dishes and waited patiently for our food to arrive. After some time the appetizers arrived and they were good. We waited patiently for our main courses to arrive but at the end we waited for exactly almost 1hour and 15 min. We arrived at 19:45 and by 21:15 we still had not received the rest of our order, we were shocked! After finally flagging one of the other servers we asked if everything was oke with our order and what had happend up until this point. Our main server came over apologized and explained that the ticket of our order possibly got lost/mixed up in the kitchen. We were so confused as part of our order that potentially was on the same ticket arrived, so if the ticket got lost how did we receive a part of our order? But I am not completely sure how it works in this restaurant. Also in all of the time that we were seated at the table waiting for our main courses to arrive no one checked in with us to even ask if the appetizers that we had received were okay? We were speechless and so disappointed as we have never experienced such poor service at a restaurant. I really hope that these were honest mistakes as it was unacceptable, quite embarrassing and disappointing. We sat in that restaurant for 2 hours for nothing and were just forgotten?! We left without getting the rest of our food but got our drinks for free and our main server apologized for all the inconveniences. When you go into a restaurant you expect some decent service especially on a weekend when it might get busy you expect to be helped/served by experienced staff, what happend tonight was pure negligence. In the end I hope that this was just a bad night as I don’t want anyone else to experience what me and my fellow guests have experience at this establishment.

I was expecting trying some food rich in flavour. Unfortunately almost all of them were very blant and far from being interesting. The portions were very small and the food is definitely OVERPRICED. The service was fast and the staff was very friendly.

not an old-fashioned Indonesian restaurant, but a fresh place with delicious dishes that you can share. the Riesling wine per bottle is of exceptional price/quality (32 euros, tip!)

Sadly I didn't take any photos but we had the most incredible meal here. Really affordable meals and great service. Best dish we had was the Gado Gado. It's vegetarian but don't be put off if you're a meat eater.

I also found the nasi kuning (yellow rice) as I know it from my grandmother, mother and aunts to be too dry here. This rice is, when I taste it like this, only cooked, not then steamed, which is normal, a bit tasteless, normally I taste/smell the oandan leaf/lemon leaf and santen. I thought the homemade satay sauce used too much bay leaf and that made the taste a bit overwhelming. The sayur lodeh was tasty I didn't think the ikan (fish mackerel) sauce (bumbu) was fresh but warmed up. A few critical points from a foodie Satay (chicken) was also tasty, service was great! Cozy restaurant, always a pleasant street!

The portions are a bit small. 6e for a small (1 person max) portion of Nasi kuning is overpriced in my opinion. The food however is absolutely delicious. Been there before and will go back.

Delicious food, how wonderfully they season the food here! Last time I liked it even better, the vegetarian rendang was completely stewed, and this time that was less the case - some pieces of jackfruit had not yet absorbed the rendang flavor. Still 5 stars, because still the tastiest Indonesian restaurant I know in Amsterdam. Nice service, always open for a chat, makes it very relaxed.

We ordered Tempe Mendoan, Nasi Kuning, Iga Bakar and Sayur Lodeh. Tempe and Iga were okay, but the Nasi Kuning and Sayur Lodeh definitely need a lot of improvement. The rice was dry, not fragrant, tasteless and it’s not even warm when it was served. Nasi Kuning is supposed to be savory and fragrant so it’s definitely a miss there. Sayur Lodeh was a bit questionable, as it tastes more like a watery “gulai”. So to summarize the food, I’d say it’s more like “Indonesian-inspired” type of taste, not the authentic one. One thing I like about this place was the service, they were impeccable.

Small restaurant with a great atmosphere and inexperienced but friendly service. The flavors were all right, but the rendang was incredibly tough, and the crusted fish had probably already been fried earlier that day and therefore hidden under a thick layer of (delicious) bumboe. But it cannot be cut through with a knife and is actually not acceptable.

We had high expectations, given the high reviews. However, they were not 100% fulfilled... that's why I wanted to leave this review, so I could improve. To start with, the jackfruit rendang was spectacular!! Highly recommended!! That's why I was even more surprised that the rest was mediocre. The perkedel jagung were fried for far too long, they were not enjoyable. When we had 2 of the 4 sent back, the new portion was also served too crispy. We left them (unfortunately). I know the nasi kuning from Indonesia, wonderfully fragrant, fresh and well seasoned. However, this version was too dry for my taste. The bami goreng was also dry and almost tasteless. Gado-gado was okay, but nothing special. The service, on the other hand, was very friendly, otherwise 👍 Now just some points of attention for the dishes🙂

My general experience of Indonesian food here has been tepid, particularly because of the lack of made-to-order options(a lot of the stuff we ordered were being scooped out and reheated). Considering that, I’d say this is the best Indo restaurant we’ve been to in Amsterdam. Service is speedy. During my few times here I’ve tried the iga bakar, ayam/bebek cabe ijo and tempe mendoan. The fried dishes were fine, though not very crispy. Sambal ijo had the sting removed, presumably to cater for local tastes. For the asking price I think a little more rice than what’s given would be welcome. Or maybe give me nasi bakar ;) Iga was flavorful, though a bit on the sweeter side(which is typical of this dish). The highlight for me though is the sambal setan. Just like they make it in Indonesia, the heat sends beads of sweat up the scalp, down to my forehead, and keeps the belly warm for a short while after. Just gotta remember to put it out with some dairy to have an uneventful morning after. The interior deco is nice and cozy. There’s outdoor seating, and I would say why would you, but there’s actually people dining outside at night in mid November. Highly recommended.

Very good meal for 6 people for a fair price. The dishes really have an authentic Indian taste ♡. A number of dishes were sold out. But they were allowed to choose a drink on their account for the inconvenience.

⭐ 1/5 We were really looking forward to trying Indonesian food in Amsterdam, but unfortunately, this was the worst experience we've had. The **chicken** was incredibly dry and tasted like it wasn’t freshly made at all. It lacked flavor and moisture, making it hard to eat. The **rice** was also disappointing—**hard and reheated**, not fresh at all. The **service** was just okay, nothing impressive, and didn’t make up for the poor food quality. Overall, this meal was a big letdown, especially considering how excited we were to try it. Would not recommend if you're looking for authentic or fresh Indonesian food in Amsterdam.

Unfortunately the worst meal I had in Amsterdam by far, beef rendang and chicken were completely dry and food came out luke-warm. Not sure why this place seems to have such good reviews :/ Ambience and service were fine but couldn’t make up for the food

Simply great! I really wanted to eat Indonesian food in Amsterdam and my first option was fully booked. I ended up here by chance - the food was fantastic, the service was incredibly accommodating and the place was small but stylish. Price performance is also very good. Also suitable for vegans and vegetarians. I'd love to come back next time I'm in Amsterdam.

I am quite happy with my experience dining at Warna Baru🌟. The food is tasty (actually tastes like Indonesian food!); we tried the Pepes Jamur, Sate Mix, and Daging Rendang (w/ white rice and lontong) - and satisfied. The portion is good and the presentation is lovely. I could see myself going back here and look forward to it! P.S. I am an Indonesian who is born and has lived for decades in Indonesia before moving here. I am quite picky (and judgemental) about the Indonesian restaurants here in the Netherlands. So... hope this supports more the weight of my review and recommendation for Warna Baru. 😉

EDIT: I got a pretty bad upset stomach / minor food poisoning from this place. Dined in and ordered the mie goreng & sate ayam. Food was absolutely delicious. However the service wasn’t so great, when I walked in, one of the servers (tall guy with Afro) was pretty poor in communicating with me and seated me, but didn’t give me a menu. He then proceeded to seat 2 other people(who were obviously his friends) after me and gave them menus and took their orders immediately. I got completely ignored until another server (Asian guy with glasses) finally gave me a menu and took my order. Looks like this restaurant could have better service, please train your servers to communicate and wait tables better. 🤙

I can totally recommend this place. The taste of the food was amazing. I had satay ayam, jackfruit rendang and nasi kuning and it was delicious. Service could be more on point but was good overall. Portions are rather small, like tapas. Great to share.

Beef rendang was top notch. Nasi goreng is not what I have eaten before. Usually a fried rice with meats, vegs & egg on top. What I got was a simple fried rice. Not sure order was taken wrong. Chicken satay was OK. I have had better. Service is top notch. Server/Bartender boy from Bay area, San Francisco, CA was friendly, attentive & efficient. Other server was very good too. I am a former multi restaurant owner from New York city. I am a google food writer with 30 million views and traveled to 40 countries. I write the truth. Nothing less or nothing more.

Unfortunately the beef and the chicken were very dry. The portions are very small, you’ll need to order 2 main dishes and additionally rice and appetizers per person, if you want to get full. The service was overwhelming and superficial, it didn’t feel really genuine. The atmosphere and the place was quite cozy and had nice design.

4 of us went to eat in this restaurant where we were welcomed without reservation. And what can we say about the quality of what we found there. The mie goreng were exceptional and the meat or vegetarian dishes were just as good. In addition to that, the service was perfect provided by dynamic and very pleasant servers. We had a great time and I highly recommend it.

This restaurant has created such a welcoming atmosphere in which one can enjoy delicious Indonesian food. The staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations on which dishes to order. The dishes are generally meant to be shared so you’ll want to order a few. The food was so flavorful!

Best food and service. Charming small restaurant for a delicious meal. Our group of four shared about 8 dishes and they were all spectacular! Highly recommend and can’t wait to return.
