We had dinner on Christmas Eve. What a cozy restaurant with delicious food and wonderful service. We felt incredibly welcome and had a wonderful evening.

Very nice restaurant with the option for a 4-dinner course and a matching wine menu. Staff did their very best to give us a good evening.

As far as we were concerned...a shooting star. We had a reservation. K was with Mrs. Ferdinandusse. Upon arrival, no one was approachable. We just walked to the back. It was almost impossible to make contact. Oh yes, just sit there. No "good afternoon" or "welcome." The lady was in a wheelchair. No one was willing to find a spot for her. We waited for half an hour...no water, no menu. Around us, tables were not cleared. Two tables away sat Prince Constantijn...he must have been treated with all due respect. After half an hour, we left for Vascobello...we had a wonderful lunch there...and the service was friendly and attentive. TAKE THE STAR SOON! They didn't respond to anything else. Not to the completed survey, not to an email to the owner...😡😡

Disappointing Service and Portions at a Promising Bistro – Room for Improvement A close friend absolutely adores Wil's Bakery Café and surprised me with a birthday dinner reservation there, opting for their special "Game Dinner Menu." I'm always excited to try new spots in Amsterdam, especially one blending bakery craftsmanship with French bistro vibes, so I was looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, the evening fell short in several ways, starting with the service. Throughout our 5-course meal, no staff member checked in on us—not once for food quality, drinks, or general satisfaction. It reached a frustrating point where I had to wave my hand vigorously just to get a water refill after waiting over 10 minutes. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expect more attentive and proactive service, and this lack of engagement made the dinner feel neglected. On the food side, while the flavors were intriguing (the game meats had a unique, earthy profile), the portions were disappointingly small. We left after five courses still feeling hungry—my husband even raided the pantry for snacks when we got home. For example, one course featured just half a skinny sausage paired with a thin slice of game meat, which simply wasn't satisfying. I appreciate creative, refined dining, but guests shouldn't depart unsatisfied. That said, the ambiance was cozy and the concept is appealing, with fresh bakery elements shining through. Suggestions for Improvement: To elevate the experience, I'd recommend training staff for more frequent table check-ins, perhaps every 15-20 minutes during multi-course meals. For portions, consider slightly larger servings or offering optional add-ons—even if it means adjusting prices upward—to ensure diners leave full and happy. A small bread basket refill or complimentary amuse-bouche could also help bridge the gaps. With these tweaks, Wils could match the hype from fans like my friend. Overall, 2.5/5 stars. I hope they take feedback to heart for future visits.

We just happened to be passing after visiting the Olympic Stadium on a wet day. We were treated to lovely service, lovely coffee and some delicious bread. It had a great atmosphere and the venue is spacious and comfortable. I’d love to return

Good experience overall but I had higher expectations. The food was nice but the portions were small for the price. I just wanted more of some of the dishes. The service was a bit slow too but the waiter was friendly.

Yesterday's lunchtime, one of the three staff members was very disinterested, and the breaks between courses were (too) long. The food was mediocre; the lobster had little flavor and was a bit tough. The duck was very tasty, and the bread was delicious! The millefeuille with raspberry sorbet and chocolate was strange; it reminded us of thin, hard-baked brown bread and didn't add anything positive to the delicious chocolate. Sanders's response isn't very helpful, of course. A voucher for someone else would be appropriate for the amount we paid.

We recently popped in to Wil's Bakery on a whim. It was packed, but we were able to get a seat at the bar for some snacks. The service was incredibly attentive, and the snacks were delicious. The wines were also excellent!

Did Wils Bakery Cafe have an off day? We dined here with five people on September 17th, based on previous positive experiences. The welcome was good, but the service was generally inattentive, even though it wasn't that busy and the restaurant didn't seem understaffed. You shouldn't have to constantly be searching for the waitstaff's attention. We've had excellent meals here before, but this time we were really disappointed. The mixed appetizers for two had a mixed taste and lacked cohesion. The confit de canard was dry and the beef rump far too chewy. The clafoutis had a rubbery consistency. The bouillabaisse and the chocolate dessert were the only positive exceptions. Halfway through the evening, the lights dimmed so much that you could no longer read the menu. Nice in a club, but not in a diner. So many disappointing dishes, mediocre service, and an ambiance that's absolutely unworthy of a "Bib Gourmand" establishment. There are plenty of alternatives, so this was our last visit for a while.

The food was disappointing. The celeriac appetizer was rather bland, the meat was tough, and the clafoutis tart had a rubbery texture. The service was poor; with the exception of one employee, the staff were inattentive. Plates weren't cleared for a long time, and we had to repeatedly ask for attention instead of the staff attending to our table. Towards the end of the evening, the lights dimmed so much that the atmosphere felt more like a nightclub than a relaxed dining experience.

The second stop on my tour of Joris Bjdendijk's restaurants was Wils Bakery Café, which has rightly been awarded a Bib Gourmand. Great location, wonderful menu, deliciously prepared by the kitchen team, really great service and sensational value for money. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

In general food was good. Only dish with beef for my tast was missed flavor and meat itself was tender. Dishes with pork, lobster and lamb were good. The main concern is service. Girls were looked like tired and didn’t show any interest to help. For example: after we finished all main dishes and were sitting at empty table nobody came at least suggest dessert or coffee. After 9pm all girls just were standing behind bar and talking between each other. But overall we had good time and food.

Amazing place. The service and the food were top. I had lunch at a local Michelin restaurant on the other side of town and I am more excited to return here. I left very happy. Thank you

Top-quality dishes in a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly, and from the restaurant, you can see right into the kitchen. The desserts were works of art and absolutely delicious. Tip: take home a loaf of bread from their own bakery after your lunch or dinner. Delicious!

The service was terrible. The 3 members of staff that were front of house were literally wandering around on their phones and taking selfies in the bathroom while customers sat there waiting to be helped. It really felt as if they couldn’t be bothered and didn’t want to be there (perhaps everyone who works there was seriously hungover one a Wednesday afternoon?).The food was generally okay - some dishes were bit heavy and lacking in seasoning. There are a lot of really great restaurants in Amsterdam… this isn’t one of them.

Outstanding quality for this casual bistro and an excellent value. Don’t overlook the wine list as well.

Sister to Michelin starred Wils Restaurant it is actually Wils Bakery Café that garners more accolades from global travelers, the space hidden behind a larger building just steps from an aging Olympic Stadium drawing a sizable crowd for lunch and dinner daily. Defined as a casual concept, though certainly not to be confused with Panera or similar American chains, a Bib Gourmand on the door nonetheless suggests bargain pricing that proves true across the menu from Chef Joris Bijdendijk that highlights seasonal Produce. Offering an extensive Wine list including several good choices by the glass, Riesling and a natural bottle from Spain both well matched to what was ordered, all tables begin with Sourdough that outpaces even some of Amsterdam’s 2* spots, though Escargot and housemade Fries were both overly salted. Broad across the menu, Appetizers highlighted by a good portion of lightly fried Pumpkin for €8, the set menus were skipped to allow more variety such as decadent Chicken Pie bound by Foie Gras and al dente Noodles marrying Scallops to Spanish Iberico Ham. Not about to skip a signature, three large slices of Sweetbreads laid across White Asparagus the size of a cucumber, Bijdendijk ups the ante further via grilled Langoustines and Crab Sauce before laying out an array of Desserts from Soft Serve to a delicate Paris Brest lent nuance by Miso and Sesame Seeds.

Cosy restaurant. Good service. Food was great. Really recommended.

Pretty good, but I can't wholeheartedly recommend this place. Let's find out why. We started our meal off with a selection of 5 shared starters and bread on the side: • Steak tartare, deep-fried potato, radish, anchovies • Sea bream ceviche, avocado, jalapeno, grapefruit • Stracciatella, fennel, rhubarb, pistachio • Farm chicken pie, foie gras, morel, "meloes" onion • Deep-fried pumpkin At €42 for 2 people to share, it's a bit steep; however, to be fair, the portions are quite sizable. If you're not very hungry, this is enough for an entire light meal. My main: • Redfish, lobster risotto, fennel, gremolata, herb salad Dessert: • Kouign Amann, pecan ice-cream Flavor-wise, every dish was very well balanced. Take the ceviche, for example: despite the clear acidic denaturation, the fish retained its fresh character and flavor. The smokiness and sweetness of the charred corn balanced the acidity, while the avocado added a creamy richness to the party – every component supported the fish. However at this premium price point, I expect better execution. Here are some of my nit-picks: • The deep-fried elements were a bit oily and greasy. After eating, they left your mouth coated in frying oil. Not pleasant. Usually a case of temperature control or old oil. • The pieces of fish in the ceviche were very roughly cut with lots of jagged edges. Not an ideal mouthfeel. This is a knife skill issue. A minor gripe in this case. • The biggest letdown was the baked goods, especially for a restaurant that incorporates the term "bakery" in its name. The pie crust was uneven, and in some parts even undercooked. The bread was slightly over-baked in places, and the crust overall was slightly bitter. My hypothesis is that the oven hasn't been properly cleaned; crumbs and flour residue get repeatedly baked and burnt, transferring bitterness to the bread. This can be a common occurrence in high-volume bakeries. Furthermore, baked goods are usually very fragrant; I was missing that aroma here as well. So, there you have it. Wils Bakery Café is a fun place with an interesting menu. If you're in the neighborhood, give this place a go. I personally wouldn't mind eating here again and trying their other dishes, but this place really needs to dot the I's and cross its T's.

The service was fine. The starters were tasty. The main courses were fine but not exceptional. The desserts were disappointing in terms of taste and could have been better served (especially the Basque cheesecake).

Our favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. We often enjoy coming here. The food is delicious and the atmosphere and service are also great. I don't often write a review but this one is well deserved.

Fantastic!! What a great and super good restaurant. The menu is excellent, the wines match seamlessly and the service is great. It's been years since we found such a beautiful combination. A wonderful place with good acoustics and beautiful, appropriate lighting. Everything has been thought about Number 1 for us!

A pit stop for a glass of wine and an appetizer between service. We were welcomed and looked after even though the staff were clearly having their family meal. Thanks guys we will be back.

What a good place to meet if you don't want to go into town. Park under the Olympic stadium and you're there. The café is spacious. Scandinavian with lots of wood. Although the name suggests otherwise, the menu does not consist of sandwiches but a very varied menu. We opted for a surprise menu consisting of 5 different dishes. Super tasty, partly warm, partly cold. Not a copious meal, but it will make you very happy. The bread is sourdough and super fresh. The service is very nice. I even got a compliment on my shoes. Definitely worth it!

Unprecedentedly good French bistro style, as the service described: “upstairs at Wils we prepare the plates with tweezers, at Bakery it is a bit more Burgundian” Delicious menu with a wide choice, top sharing plank and the bavette was perfectly prepared. And for a total price of €120 you can really go there for lunch (or dinner).

Delicious food! Everything super refined and excellently prepared. Always nice, an open kitchen. The restaurant is also a beautiful open space without compromising on the cozy atmosphere. Well advised with a nice chardonnay with my main course (skrei) Friendly staff, nice place. We were pleasantly surprised!

Beautiful cafe, very fast and efficient service. It's nice to see the open kitchen where chefs are working. We had lunch and the food was absolutely great. The veal cheek was very tender and moist and the accompanying vegetable puree was super smooth and delicious. The shrimp ravioli was delectable with well balanced flavors. We loved the food presentation. The portion size was very reasonable, not too much, not too little. Huge compliments to the chefs! We appreciated the friendly and fast service. Excellent experience overall. We will definitely come back.

We got the bib menu and they literally closed the kitchen and forgot our main course. Then they rushed and figured it out by just warming up what tasted like leftovers

Super fun lunch! The only 'disadvantage' I can think of is that the starters to share are somewhat difficult to share :-). Furthermore, really surprisingly tasty and fun combinations.

Food was ok, some of them was too heavy for us, lobster soup was good. However, the kitchen were too slow. We went for a 5 course tasting menu, and after 70 mins we were only able eat 1st course (steak tartar). I had to eat 3-4 slices of bread to shut down my hunger. There were at least 30-40 mins between 1st and 2nd course. Staff was very nice, i think they felt bad too. Overall, food was ok but definitely not worth the price considering slow kitchen

I just loved the place and the vibe ... tough chairs... The waiters are incredibly nice and helpful, and the wines variety is excellent, although the red Argentinian was my favorite. Good food, warm spirit, good company, and a night to share good things, fit for wheelchairs.

Just about the best place for a lunch in Amsterdam. Food quality and presentation are top class, bright surroundings, plenty of space and privacy when dining . Just awesome !

We were at this establishment for lunch and unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. The restaurant is located in a very interesting place and in relatively interesting premises, but the interior itself is a bit uncontrived, ordinary. Maybe it's on purpose. The amuse-bouche of bread, butter and olives was excellent. Appetizers and main course were unfortunately not that good. The food lacked simplicity and you could see that the establishment has "burnt out" ideas for dishes that it changes regularly. Wine and dessert, on the other hand, were again excellent. The service was pleasant, but sometimes we waited too long, or she put chewing tobacco in front of us. Everything can definitely be fixed, I think it's a shame and a mistake to style yourself into a Michelin Guide restaurant and then not deliver such food.

A great choice was made for a surprise menu and taking preferences into account.

The fries were PERFECT! Loved the beef tartare too. The Asian crayfish soup was a bit too salty. Great, bustling atmosphere and good service. Would come again!

The pointed cabbage was one of the better vegetarian dishes I have eaten in recent years. Friendly staff. The rest was okay, nothing special. The decor and ambiance could be better, as could the acoustics. I have seen preschools that were better designed and furnished.

Absolutely amazing, every time I visit Amsterdam for work I just have to pass by here. It's so good I actually don't want to advocate it because I don't want other people to know about it 😂 If you're not too picky on food I just recommand going for the menu and let them surprise you. Service is as well outstanding this review is based on about 5/6 visits over a year.

Great place offering a wide variety of delicious dishes like baked snails, Venison Wellington, steak tartare, and more. They also serve freshly made bread and butter. You can even buy everything to go (it is a bakery, after all). There’s plenty of space, making it ideal for lunch with friends or large events. It’s also kid-friendly, with welcoming and friendly staff.

Great food, fresh homemade bread and the best Calves Liver I’ve ever had the sauce was so delicious

The restaurant is on the ground floor of star restaurant Wils, opposite the Olympic stadium. Since there was a terrace it has become a lot livelier here and it seems that lunch has become increasingly better. Because you always expect something extra from Joris Bijdendijk, the menu was a bit disappointing the first time and the home-made bread was also not spectacularly tasty. We have now been here regularly and we like the varied menu. The special activities such as the Amsterdam pub quiz, theme menus and especially the low food festival are great.

still water (from the tap) = €3.50 it's a shame!!! A real bottle of water that we unscrew in front of you, I don't mind... but here!?!?!? It's really taking tourists (that we are) for cash cows 🤬🤬🤬 to put it simply = tap water is as expensive as coffee at 4€ It's a shame because the place and the staff are very pleasant.

Wils definitely lives up to its reputation. Great service and delicious food. Every dish was unique and distinguished in flavors. And we were pleasantly surprised to not have tasted mayonaise in any of the dishes unlike many other restaurants in Amsterdam regardless of fine dining or casual. Everything from the bread and butter to the mains and dessert, it was all on point. We particularly enjoyed the lamb, it was perfectly cooked and the flavours complimenten each other so well. Would definitely love to visit again.

Had lunch today with 4 people. The service was extremely attentive, professional and flexible. The hallways were spacious and the bread was replenished when it ran out. A truly great experience with good wine. We would love to come back here!

Delicious food and super nice service

We are here for dinner with European cup Dutch team match, and we are very lucky to get table the same day with late reservation! Service is good which allow two people using a 4 people table to watch game, and food is great as well. The only thing is the TV is too small for the size of restaurant. Maybe can consider to set up a BIG white screen with projector way!

Great place. A place to come back. The lamb was our fav. It really stands out. Service is on point. The water bottle, the waay for cutlery and how they present the bread is special. We are supper happy. Nice selection of wines. Including argentinean wines.

Lovely dinner with wine pairing. Took the 4 course option and substituted the dessert for cheese. Because, duh. Who doesn't love local Dutch cheese? Exceptional service, waitstaff was lovely, and happy to recommend wines that were on point. Would recommend in a heartbeat and will return soon.

The food was original, very tasty and very tasty. The wines were also very good and not crazy priced. However, the service was really bad, grumpy staff, no explanation, plates were thrown on the table. The PIN machine was immediately included with the bill. Still a blemish on the evening because the food was very tasty.

Last visited May 2024 I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon, so no problem with getting a table. Ordered the 3 course chefs menu. Each course was good and the right size. Will return if staying in the area.

Big and spacious restaurant located near Olympics stadium. It has an open kitchen and staff are attentive. Food are generally nice. Oysters are big and fresh. Vanilla ice cream is the best.

Today I enjoyed the lunch special at Wills Bakery Café. The atmosphere was inviting and the service was excellent. The lunch special was delicious and I was pleasantly surprised by the non-alcoholic cocktail alternative on offer. I enjoyed the oysters, both traditional and another surprising alternative. The dessert also tasted excellent! Although the entrance appeared to be at the back of the building, I understand this is not easy to change. However, it was not a major inconvenience and once inside I was warmly welcomed. In short, a great culinary experience that I would definitely recommend to others!

This seems a totally underrated place in crowdy Amsterdam.

Delivered quickly: beer, bread and fries. Fresh, delicious and with plenty of butter and mayonnaise. Only napkin was missing, so fingers were licked - that was no punishment.

Great service and food, recommend the bib gourmand menu 👌🏼 our two kids shared a puff pastry dish and the waiter kindly offered to have it served on two plates, it was perfect.

Its the cafe of the michelin star they have upstairs and jt is every bit as fantastic. There is creativity in the food, surprise ingredients that you dont expect and well presented and explained. Great selection of wine. You can go with the chefs menu and substitute items if you have allergies or dislikes. Overall, fantastic and would definitely add it to my recommendation list.

We liked the atmosphere a lot. Warm and spacious, great place to enjoy some hours. We had lunch. 3 and 4 courses menus were available but we chose ribeye. It comes with fries and green salad. Food is served in a nice way but ribeye was very hard and not easy to chew. Fries, greens, bread and butter were delicious. There’s an option to buy bread as well. Coffee was fantastic and it’s served with small madeleines. We’ll visit this place again but to try different dishes. Definitely worth it!

Michelin star quality for the price of a brasserie. This is the brasserie of the Michelin star restaurant that you can find on the top floor. Their Bib Gourmand menus are absolutely delicious at a very fair price. Flavors are superior to what you would usually expect from a brasserie. Value for money one of the better spots in Amsterdam for the fans of fine dining.

Last Tuesday (January 2) for my birthday, my best friend invited me to have lunch at Wils Bakery. I couldn't be happier when my favorite fish Yellowtail was on the menu. 100% so that we were going to order this too. After the first bite, it already tasted different, the texture, the taste. Not a yellowtail in my opinion. I tasted another piece to be sure. But no, still not the taste of yellowtail. Sent a photo to my father (chef). He told me to call the staff immediately. So the thing is, I am very allergic to raw conch fish. & it turned out the yellowtail was scallop. I raised this with the staff and the reason for using scallops instead of yellowtail was 'the scallop had to be used up, so the kitchen decided to use scallops'. My friend indicated that this was absolutely not possible because of my allergies. As a solution we get a free coffee or a free dessert. However, confidence in this restaurant was/is completely gone. When the bill came, the yellowtail/scallop was still on the bill. My allergic reactions occur 1 to 2 hours later & nothing could be further from the truth. I will be in bed from January 2nd. Not a morsel of food stays in my stomach & my throat is swollen. I am extremely disappointed in the state of affairs of this restaurant, which in my opinion is absolutely not worth a Michelin star.

Heerlijke Franse bistro gerechten, zeer mooie selectie wijnen in een informele sfeer. 5 sterren.

They try! BUT ... disappointing versus what one can definitely expect from a 1* Michelin restaurant! The food was OK - however our tender steaks were too chewy for what they recommended. Big selection of solid red wines - but served in temp. of 15°C, which does not allow enjoying them (too low for me). Not to mention a waitress, who wanted to serve the 20years old Towny Port in regular size white wine glasses... The worst came at the end - our bill was a FEW HUNDRED € HIGHER (almost doubled!) vs. what we should have paid for our order. The reaction for our claim was also surprising - a simple "sorry", without a proposal of a small "apologies" drink or sweet.

Ik was positief verrast toen ik met mijn zoon op het laatste moment besloot om er te eten. We hebben zeer goede herinneringen aan Rijks (van dezelfde eigenaar) maar teleurstellende ervaring met het restaurant van Wils op bovenste verdieping (geen review gegeven want maar een keer gegeten en dan probeer ik me in te houden). Perfect eten, goede service (we zijn dus later nog een keer gegaan. Was jammer genoeg wel een beetje stil terwijl het zaterdagavond was. Plek heeft meer publiek verdiend.

Goed eten, relatief flinke porties en hele vriendelijke service. Personeel is flexibel en denkt mee. En dat alles voor zeer schappelijke prijzen. Bib gourmand is zeker verdiend!

Samen met mijn vriendin erg lekker geluncht voor haar verjaardag. Het eten was echt heerlijk en de service ook erg goed!. wij hebben de steak tartaar en wilde eend gegeten en nog een leuke verrassing bij het toetje.
