I visited this café almost every morning for a week. I was always treated very well by all the women who work there. However, today (06/07 at 9:40 a.m.), I was treated very poorly by the young man who was working.
First, I didn’t know the café doesn’t accept cash, and I didn’t understand when he told me they didn’t accept it, since English is not my first language. When I tried to hand him the cash a second time, he immediately changed his attitude, looked visibly annoyed, and was quite rude, even though I was being completely polite.
After that, I ordered a coffee but didn’t know that customers are expected to collect their own drinks from the counter. They don’t explain this, nor do they call out your name. On every previous visit, the women working there had brought my coffee to my table.
When I politely asked where my coffee was, the young man simply told me it was at the counter while giving me an unpleasant sideways look. It was a very disappointing experience, especially after having such positive experiences at this café throughout the rest of the week.
What a place! It doesn't get any better than this. The people that hang out there, the food, drinks, atmosphere, the staff (also very modest 🤣 - inside joke). Had a great night.
Came here on a Saturday and wasn’t very busy which was nice for us. It’s a very open, calm, and clean atmosphere. We had a couple different frappes and matcha lattes that were all great! We also got some soba and tempura dishes that were so delicious! Better than I expected. The girls working are also so sweet. Lovely experience
A great discovery. The food was of a high quality and in generous servings. Both the prawn fried rice and the beef noodles were very tasty. Table service was prompt, efficient and attentive. The large number of takeaway customers show that Hap Li is justifiably popular with local people.
Jerk Bay is absolutely fantastic. Huge portions, good music and the people had great vibes. We ordered the fish fritters to start with and they were so good with the spicy sauce. For the mains we had the jerk chicken meals with rice and mac and cheese. The portions are huge, so if you’re smaller eater like me I would recommend ordering just the chicken and a side 😉 The chicken was roasted perfectly and went so well with the spicy sauce. I also really liked the side of plantains and wish they gave us more! Also loved the drinks, the ginger pineapple was so good and perfect for a hot day. Would definitely return! Came around 3pm on a Saturday so it wasn’t crowded but I bet their place fills up for dinner quick 😄
Do born and bred Amsterdammers come here too, or just students and people from the provinces? Yeah, maybe 2 real Amsterdammers...😅...Amsterdam, the city without Amsterdammers.
