Mediocre food, masquerading as "fine dining," with inadequate service.
This used to be an excellent restaurant with good Italian food and friendly, professional service. Unfortunately, it's all gone downhill. I dined there tonight with friends on Christmas Eve, at my recommendation, and I'm embarrassed in front of my guests.
The first course was explained, but after that, the dishes were simply brought out quickly. No one asked how it was. Hasty, distant, and disinterested.
I had to get the wine myself and refill it from a cooler 10 meters away. The waiter didn't notice.
It's a shame that so many restaurants can't find adequate staff in both the kitchen and the service, thus allowing the quality and experience to deteriorate so much. Even to a point where the price is no longer worth it. After several visits, I won't be returning.
We happened to stop here because it was snowing heavily, but it wasn't a good experience. The waitress was nice but practically sent us away because they were closing very early. The cake was too cold from the refrigerator and dry as if it had been sitting there for weeks. Even the chai lattes were watery and tasteless. Furthermore, the toilet is downstairs in a messy, dirty basement where the tap constantly runs and can't be turned off.
Fantastic place to eat. The traditional food is on point. We have thoroughly enjoyed this place. They were extremely accommodating as we didn't have a reservation (highly recommend that you do).. They went out of their way to make us comfortable until a table became available. Love, love, love this place! And try their beer, it's great!
Bonito interior. Frente al mercado de flores. Muy buena ubicación también. Muy recomendable para todos.
Niemeijer is an oasis on a bustling, ungorgeous tourist street in one of Amsterdam’s most touristy areas. The bakery feels like a discovery you want to keep secret, yet it’s clearly known to locals (who queue outside waiting for the doors to open) and travelers alike.
Naturally leavened breads, yeasted loaves, and beautifully laminated pastries are complemented by excellent coffee, delivered by a wonderful young staff, Evie especially, who keep pace with the steady flow of customers.
Sit upstairs and look up at the frescoed ceiling, or gaze out through the oversized plate-glass window to the street below. My favorite breakfast: walnut and fig petit pains with Gruyère and a flat white. But I'll be back tomorrow for a croissant or a pain au chocolat!
I ordered a pizza through Uber Eats last night. The pizza was €16. I added sausage which was €3. I added a can of coke, which was €2.75. That is €21.75 total. I was charged €29.35, which is a difference of €7.60. I don't know if that is Uber's delivery fee, the restaurant fee, or what, but €30 for a small pizza (there was only one size and this would barely feed two people) and a can of coke is insane. The pizza was ok, but for those prices, I will go elsewhere. Disappointing.
A bit of an odd place. Absolutely fantastic food. Nothing more to add. But listen: why on earth is the air conditioning on when it's -1°C outside? I don't get it. It wasn't supposed to be off. I was having a nice bite to eat with two friends on Boxing Day, I made a joke, my friends laughed out loud, and we were shhhed out of the kitchen. And the place was empty. Explain that. No, for the atmosphere and experience, this is not the place to be.
GET THE SOURDOUGH WITH EGGS AND POUR THE HOMEMADE KETCHUP ON TOP IT’S UNBELIEVABLE
But apart from the amazing food, Box Sociaal has the friendliest staff in all of Amsterdam. Such a warm and welcoming environment. The food is also always such a hit.
