De beste restaurants in Amsterdam

A burger with its own personality. Not the usual bun, not the usual sauces. Try it.

Picked up an Indonesian rijsttafel for takeaway. I am sorry to say, but I have rarely tasted such tasteless food. The only thing that tasted even remotely good was the satay, and I fear only because of the satay sauce. A real disappointment. It really wasn't worth the €40.

For years, the place to read Het Parool with a Heineken and a Kornwijn! And a delicious toasted sandwich.... My top spot for decades, next to Café Welling.

The place is nice and the service was very good, but the wait for our burger and chicken was completely unreasonable. Plus, we were the only people in the restaurant. The bread on my chicken was a little burnt and hard around the edges. They don't have the best drink on the menu because they say it's hot and it would melt! It's exactly the kind of drink you'd have on a hot day.

The food here is still cooked with love.

Disappointing experience – especially regarding service and quality I went to Café Maxwell because I was very hungry. I was torn between scrambled eggs and a salad and was actually hoping for some advice. I sat outside on the terrace for about 15 to 20 minutes before going inside myself to ask how the ordering process works. During that time, I did see a staff member walk back and forth between the inside and outside several times, but there was no contact with me as a guest at any point. I was not asked if I wanted a drink, if I wanted to order yet, or if everything was to my liking. It is precisely those small moments that make the difference in hospitality for me. Eventually, I indicated myself that I wanted to go for the salad. The salad with crispy chicken (for which I also paid an extra €4) was unfortunately very disappointing. The presentation was messy and the dish felt very meager: mainly lettuce with some chicken, without much variety such as tomato or cucumber. The chicken had varying textures and the whole thing did not look like what you would expect when going out for lunch. I ate it reluctantly simply because I was very hungry, but in the end, I left half of it. When paying, I wasn't asked if I enjoyed it. I then indicated myself that I was disappointed. I was asked what was wrong, but I mainly missed a sense of acknowledgment: an apology, some understanding, or a suitable solution. I don't mind paying for a dish, but I do expect attention to quality, taste, and presentation. Unfortunately, both the service and the experience were a major disappointment for me. I left still hungry and will not be coming back here.

An elegant and well-kept restaurant. The food was good and the waiters were very friendly. We had the duck breast, which was truly tasty, and the famous numbered steak, which was truly delicious.

Cash-only policy was not communicated in advance, aside from a small sign on the table. The staff didn’t mention it either. The food was below average and not worth carrying cash for.

Toilet was not clean and empty of Toilet paper.
