The worst fried chicken in the world, fatal. I had food poisoning this morning, it was very oily and poorly handled. Terrible, I suspect they gave me reheated chicken in oil.
The place had an excessive smell of used oil.
Quirky venu.
Food was great but we got the wrong dishes.
Tucked away a bit in an array of somewhat 1950s houses and flats.
Dishes got a bit mixed up, I think we ended up with another tables food!
We had pasta.. A glass of house wine.. And dessert.
Decor around the restaurant is vintage film.
The restaurant also has a rather nice house cat...
Recommended. Everything is pricy in Amsterdam
My parents have been regulars since the beginning in the 1980s. My father passed away in February of this year. My mother really wanted to eat at San Lok on Christmas Eve. She had made a reservation, but we were placed among the stored items and not by the window. Then my daughter's entire order was forgotten! We were almost finished (because otherwise it gets cold) when she finally got around to it. A teenage child in tears and grumpy, no apologies from the staff. Because of all the fuss, I didn't even toast my father. Only after my mother complained did we get a few chocolates as compensation. What should have been a pleasant evening during this difficult time turned into one that left us with unpleasant memories.
I used to come here quite regularly, until the Chinese owner completely turned me off. He made the wrong coffee several times while I ordered something very simple (iced latte macchiato), and I even had a discussion where he scolded me very rudely and antisocially.
Today I really craved coffee and ran out of milk, so I thought, "Let me try again." I explained to the lady step by step what I wanted (cup with ice, espresso poured over it, hazelnut syrup with it, and milk poured over it). Pretty easy, I thought. Then I saw the aforementioned owner grab the blender. I immediately had to jump in, stop him, and explain again what I wanted. Then he started lecturing ME about what I ordered. He angrily yelled that I should have ordered an iced latte and not an iced latte macchiato. I don't care what it's called there, I explained what I wanted. Also, which iced latte macchiato goes through a blender? I'm completely done with this place. It's a shame, because I used to come here 4 or 5 times a week.
We received a fantastic welcome! We went there for the first time at the beginning of a seminar in Amsterdam. The food was delicious and the owner was incredibly warm and hospitable. So we went back at the end of our stay. Just as satisfied as the first time!! We recommend it 1000%!
Well worth its Michelin star. Truly exceptional food, with a lot of earthy tastes (smoke, jerusalem artichoke, cauliflower, chestnut). All in truly original and tasteful combinations. Also don’t miss the incredible wine pairing. Clear value for money even if this type of deliciousness will never be cheap. Great modern setting with a lovely view of the open kitchen. Very friendly and attentive staff, can’t recommend them highly enough!
