I’ve visited Café Piazza on my past two trips to Amsterdam. It’s a reliable choice if you’re looking for a gluten-free meal in the city, as there is an extensive gluten-free menu including pasta, meat and fish dishes, which are all suitable for coeliacs. There is also pizza, but this is not suitable for allergy sufferers, due to a shared oven, which is a shame. It’s located on Kloveniersburgwal , close to De Wallen (The Red Light District).
The staff members were friendly and had good awareness of allergens. I liked the red napkin placed on my table, and the red menu, which meant I was gluten-free.
It is slightly pricey here, but given the quality of the food and how safe I felt eating here, and how they treated gluten-free as a speciality rather than just being there, I would say it is worth it.
I ordered the Cacio e pepe on my most recent visit, the sauce had so much flavour, simple yet so delicious, I love how they added their unique twist onto the dish by adding a Serrano Ham and Parmiggiano chip - I would have liked slightly more of that, especially the ham!
I’ve also had the gluten-free lasagna here before, which is really good, although I did find it to contain a little too much cheese, but still was flavoursome and one of the best I’ve had.
Overall, this is for sure one of my favourite gluten-free spots in the city, and I look forward to visiting next time I am in Amsterdam.
Cozy place with a beautiful cat, friendly people and a very welcoming environment. We really like to be here in a very cold winter day. Also would recommend the hot chocolate
The main bartender (petite skinny lady with glasses) is unnecessarily controlling and rude to customers and other staff, and this turned the vibe of the bar off. To be honest, she was the worst-mannered bartender at 100+ speakeasy bars I’ve been to. And her cocktail isn’t even that good so stop being bossy and pretentious
Very friendly staff - happy faces serving us good food ! We went on Christmas evening. Most places were closed but this was open and staff was very warm and welcoming. Place was nicely buzzy, interiors is well done and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My son ordered the pasta bolognese and was fully satiated. Pizza with Tuna also was well done. Food wise, you have good options but the smiling service of the staff won our hearts. Can happily go back.
I had a wonderful evening at De Hemelse Modder! It was a bit of a struggle to choose, as the menu offered delicious meat, fish, and vegetarian options. This time I chose the pan-fried cod with beurre blanc, fennel, and mashed potatoes, perfectly prepared and served. For my starter, I had the burrata with roasted tomatoes, basil oil, and crispy bread—so delicious! To finish, I had the Hemelse modder (always a favorite 😋). Thank you for the charming service and the wonderful evening!
